Graduation Year: 2012

To be quite honest, I was surprised and a little disappointed to see a low performance rating for SJVC. I have read most of the reviews, and there seems to be some issues with the Medical Programs. I don’t have a dog in that fight, so I can only speak of my experiences with SJVC Construction Management program.

I am currently about 15 weeks away from completion. Has it been a challenge? Well yes. But anything worthwhile in life usually is. And like most everything in life; you only get out of it what you put in.

The accelerated pace can be very challenging especially when the classes are doubled up. If you are not a motivated, time managing, multi-tasker, this program may not be for you. What I can tell you for certain is; SJVC makes sure that they provide their students with the most advanced, user friendly, on-line technology available.

My wife and I have been attending on-line college side-by-side for the last 10 months. My wife attends another well known university. I can tell you this; her college uses old, clunky, and very slow technology. Her instructors are less interactive, no live lectures, and in many cases she has waited 5-6 days to get a response from a professor. I have never waited more than two days for an answer, and I ask a lot of questions.

Some of negative feedback I have read includes complaints about the tuition. The cost may seem high on the surface, but if you factor in the books which are all brand new and current issues, and the convenience of front door deliver two weeks in advance, I think it is compatible with other schools. I agree the lap top they provide is a bit lame. I gave mine to my 12 year old son. He loves it! About the only negative thing I can come up with is; I have found tests that don’t match the current text, and some tests with misleading information to include typos. I usually bring it to the attention of the current instructor, and in most cases all student have been given credit where due.

I would highly recommend SJVC to anyone who is looking for an accredited, challenging, and well organized 2 year degree. Everyone needs to keep in mind that these are only two years degree programs. If you think you are going to walk out into the world with your AS degree and have instant gratification with a high paying prestigious career right out of the gate; it’s not likely going to happen. Accept and realize it for what it is. Take the knowledge you gain and build off it.

I attended SJVC Online to complete my CMA program and as some have mention it was not without bumps. I also had some issues finding an extern site, however, with hard work from myself and my extern coordinator I found an excellent site that had no issues with my schooling being online.

As students, we have to go in understanding these are accelerated courses (5 weeks) and you can't learn it all in five weeks. The biggest plus is that you can complete your program very quickly. It is a bit harder finding a site not being a local school, but as a student you also have to be responsible for looking for a site and being prepared from day 1 and are warned of this when enrolling. I thought the instructors were always very helpful and everyone is great to work with.

I started at SJVC in Oct of 2011. I will be finished with my Medical Assistant in May. They have a great staff. Everyone I have came in contact with is always so nice and very helpful. I personally have told everyone I talk to, to check out SJVC.

They have different Majors for different students. Check them out!!!!

Degree: Accounting and Business/Management
Graduation Year: 2012

I have a 4.0 GPA and have been on the Dean's List each semester since enrollment. The courses do not cover the necessary materials needed in order to be properly prepared for the externship.

The weekly exams are often based on previous editions of the textbook, when this was brought to the instructors attention, with the proof of the correct answer from the textbook and page number reference, almost weekly, the instructor noted that the exam would be corrected before other students would take the exam, and that although my answers were indeed correct, in this particular situation I was in fact wrong. When I respectfully objected to this response, the instructor ignored over a weeks worth of emails until the semester had ended and final grades were turned in. Although my final grade was a 97, it should have been higher but the instructors are lazy and unwilling to correct their mistakes, most of the students were far to incompetent to even notice the error to begin with. When researching possible externship sites, my part of the process was turned in to my extern adviser four months before I was scheduled to begin my externship. I called my extern adviser at least two times a week every week after submiting my information. The extern coordinator did not begin his part of the externship setup until two weeks before my externship was scheduled to begin, naturally I did not have an extern site until two semesters after I had been scheduled to complete my externship and graduate. Because I had completed all of the classes except the externship, I was unable to be counted for attendance during this waiting period, and was temporally terminated from the college "due to attendance issues." When I was told that this was normal, and that there was absolutely nothing that I could do I was naturally upset. The college refused to enroll me in additional classes or provide assignments I could submit for attendance credit. I was terminated due to my extern coordinators lack of ability to do his job, I would not recommend this program to any intelligent, driven student that expects to be challenged by the course work or be surrounded by peers that are competent in the course work, or even basic spelling. My classmates consistently left me shocked by their incompetent posts on the discussion forum.

I have never attended an online college before and was expecting it to be quite difficult but with the EXCELLENT help from advisors and instructors it has been the best experience! I couldn't have asked for a better online college experience.

I have tried other college's and this one has the most helpful and friendly people working for them and when they say they are going to do something they do just that ... they are always there to help with a phone call or e mail.... I love this college

I had a very great experience going to SJVC Online. Everyone who works at SJVC Online has always helped me. I have never had a problem with not being able to get a hold of someone at the school when I needed them during business hours.

With every school there are going to be some cons. My pros definitely outweigh my cons. It is a fast-paced program that is not for all but with some hard work and dedication it is possible to graduate. The instructors are awesome.

I am a navy wife and mother who needed a school that what work with my busy lifestyle. This is that school. The program was not easy but I did learn a lot and look forward to my career as a Medical Assistant.

When I started going to school at the online campus at Visalia I was excited and nervous at the same time. Starting a new career in a field I had never been in was very intriguing and luckily SJVC was very helpful along the way, I'm near the end of my education and starting my extern soon and my extern coordinator has been so helpful! thanks!!
