Simmons University Reviews of Master's in Library Science

"I attended for 2.5 years in a Masters program, part of a career change late in life. I ended up abandoning this idea because the school is producing FAR too many graduates for the very few available jobs in this field, and I could see I was unlikely to be hired without moving to a far less desirable part of the country. While a few of the classes were good, and I picked up a few skills (basic coding, for example, which one can learn online for free), overall the instruction was uninspired. What really motivated me to write this review, however, was the utter and complete lack of responsiveness on the part of the administration. Usually if I had a question, no one responded to it, or if they did, it was only perfunctory. I NEVER had the feeling that anyone cared about how I was doing, how things were going, etc. When I withdrew from one class and submitted a scathing review internally, NO ONE ever got back to me about any of the points I raised. I am forced to conclude that Simmons exists solely for the purpose of making money, extracting tuition payments from all comers, even if they know full well that there are few jobs in that field, and that you would be unlikely to be able to pay back your student loans (for the record, I paid upfront, using savings, so this was not an issue for me). I'd say that this was NOT a positive experience overall, although certain small aspects of it were amusing (doing projects with classmates, for ex)."

"Simmons is fantastic, and the Library Science program is incredibly well connected. It's a shame that you're required to enter the terminal masters program before you can pursue a doctorate, though, especially since for the most part the course offerings seem to overlap."
