Good program until reaching the practicum. Teachers are good but the on-line administration is really bad. Its self help whether its their computer system, lack of Dr's or problems managing the paperwork. You will only get phone contact with people who are not interested in customer service or student success. They are not prompt or caring. So my advice is if you think you will need any help in any way, there are probably better options.
I earned my bachelor's degree, MBA, and DBA at South University Online. I enjoyed the programs and learned a lot. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the doctoral program. I highly recommend the MBA program and strongly caution others to avoid the DBA program because it is in shambles. My first year in this program I was led by scholars in the field but after their departure it was necessary to dumb down every question, every paper, and the dissertation so that the new leadership could understand it. Students were discouraged from asking questions or completely ignored, and while I made it through others did not or had to repeat work because expectations were not clear or even known. In summary, in the DBA program you will be ignored, have to guess what they want, and then turn it in to find that your work has either not been reviewed or is not understood because it has too many statistics or big words.
I have graduated from South University with 2 degrees. First with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing and I had such a wonderful experience that I returned 8 years later to obtain my Masters of Science in Nursing with focus as a Family Nurse Practitioner. The South University program is laid out in a manner that is not only manageable but enhances learning. I was very pleased with the program and felt very prepared to enter clinic practice after graduation, which I did promptly.
I enjoyed attending South University. Time management is the key to any learning experience, especially Online classes. I applied myself and was always present and received the education I came for. Since I was changing industry fields, I knew the a BSPH would not be sufficient. I enrolled in another University for my MPH degree that is CEPH certified in Public Health so that I would be fully qualified to work in my chosen field. South University was an excellent stepping stone for me. I don't quite understand the negative comments from some other students. They appear to need more secondary schooling and just not college material and not understanding that you have to have a solid plan and goals and most of all apply yourself to your fullest extent. South University from start to finish helped me to realize my full potential. I was an excellent student and now attend George Washington Miliken school of Public Health for my MPH. I could not have accomplished this without South University.

I have had nothing but a good experience with this university so far. The workload can be heavy; however, you get what you put in to it. Online programs are designed for motivated, self-driven professionals who want to advance their career. I would choose this school again.
As I read through each review I am terrified at how accurate the description of staff and financial issues are. I decided to transfer schools when I was told I could not take more than two classes at a time. That bothered me. So I did some research- All a I can really tell those who are looking into online school is- DO YOUR RESEARCH! If the school does not tell you up front how much each credit will cost, forget them. South was on probation for fraud not too long ago. Once I realized I was being financially screwed, I withdrew from classes. All of a sudden it was impossible to get ahold of any contact on my academic team. Please, like many others have stated in their review do not waste your time here. Save your money, go to a credible school.
This school is a joke! The staff that is suppose to guide and assist you through the program is VERY RUDE. The classes are self taught and you have to find your own clinical rotations. And if you are unable to find locations that is your problem. As I was told by the regional coordinator it is my responsibility to find a preceptor not hers, even though I had called sixty locations. I am transferring schools. They care about money, not student success. Choose any school besides this one.
Steer clear of South University. They are a for-profit business (not an institution of higher education) and they run all of their departments that way. They don't care about the students; money is their only object. I was a student from 2008-2011 and graduated. The coursework was not meaningful and I question the validity of my MBA compared to other schools. You can never get in contact with your advisor, financial aid, or academic services. They don't even offer unofficial transcripts - you have to pay a fee to have official transcripts created, which have a minimum 3 week wait time and they will only mail them. There are numerous other universities out there that are less expensive and will offer an actual quality education and experience. Please, don't waste your time with this train wreck of a school.
