"Spelman is a small private all girls historically black college/university. By attending this school, students are already a cut above the rest. The illustrious Spelman College is ranked number one within HBCUs. They recently built new green dorms and have a brand new gymnasium that focuses on overall wellness. It is centrally located near the Atlanta airport and in the heart of one of the citys historic neighborhoods. The culture of Atlanta is very entrenched in Spelman and vice versa. It belongs to a consortium of schools called the Atlanta University Center, along with Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University. Though Spelmans campus is enclosed in a gate, no distinction between the institutions can be felt. My experience at Spelman College was invaluable. The training, knowledge, and education obtained were unmatched. I felt supported from the orientation through the commencement. The AUC focuses equal amount of energy on academics and student experience. This includes the option to take classes at the other schools and being matched with a brother and sister. They know how to study and achieve academic accolades, but they balance that with a healthy spirit of fun. Our annual homecomings are held together and the bonds we made have proven to be long lasting. I had the opportunity to spend a semester studying abroad in India, which forever changed my life and global outlook. Most importantly, I appreciated the time and love poured into me through the course of my matriculation in encouraging me to take pride and find security in my identity as a black woman."

"Spelman College is an excellent liberal arts college in which students can major in a variety of areas. Spelman is known for the strong STEM program and has alumni mentors and faculty who are greatly invested in mentoring students. I highly recommend students to check out Spelman for themselves, the student ambassadors and faculty are great at persuading students to join the Spelman community."

"Wonderful college experience. Attending a HBCU was different. You have to adjust to the new surrounding and the campus life. School doesn't have all the luxuries of other schools. School is still adding more courses and facilities that will attract other students."

"I would have never thought that I would have a B.A. in English. I remember choosing my major as an incoming freshmen and thinking "Whoa,I have too many interests (history, English, and psychology)!". I walked into the English department to see what courses were offered for the fall and, get a sheet that outlined the English Pre-Law track. I immediately fell in love with how the courses blended history, ethnic studies, and psychology in every course. Spelman's English Department helped me shape my skills as a creative writer and a professional when it comes to editing any document. Spelman as a whole has prepared me for any environment (private or public sector) to be a professional. I absolutely, love the flexibility of my degree and the insight I have on hot discussion topics!"

"The department of biology at Spelman College, in my opinion, is one of the best departments at the college. ALL faculty really care about the students and you build real relationships with them. They are there to help answer any questions you have about what to do with you degree, if the biology track is right for you, and graduate and medical school. They love getting students involved in research and they get to know each incoming class just as well as they know the seniors. The classes you are required to take will definitely give you an advantage in graduate school courses ONLY IF YOU REALLY PAY ATTENTION. The only major concern you should have attending this institution is tuition. Try as best as you can to obtain scholarships. Start applying early. You can also apply for early decision to the college and you get first priority for institutional need based scholarships. The college prides it's students on tradition and becoming well rounded women. There are hundreds of clubs that fit so many criteria and fit so many different personalities/talents. Once you walk through the Spelman Arch (traditional for only alumna) you know that the four years of hard work were WELL worth it to become a Spelman Woman."

"Tell us about your college experience.Spelman was a great fit socially, as I grew close to my Spelman Sisters and learned the importance of educated black women. Degree wise, the school only offers Liberal Arts majors, so if you want to major in a specific field, such as business, fashion or marketing, I would not recommend Spelman.Would you get the same degree if you could start over? No, I would have majored in international fashion management, which parallels my career since graduation. What advice can you offer other students? When choosing a school, look at all aspects including campus life, tuition and location, but most importantly go to a college that fits your career and life goals."
