Degree: Surgical Technology/Technologist
Graduation Year: 2014

"The Cardiology Technology distance program at Stenberg College has been a great success for me as I am currently working casual at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba as a Cardiology Technician. I have found with the lab work it has given me the confidence to perform professionally and efficiently in a hospital setting. When I first started this program, I never really knew what I wanted to do as professional careers but I knew I wanted to work in the healthcare setting. I never knew much about this course/profession and once I began taking the courses I loved it. Focusing specifically and directly on the profession and your duties as a cardiologist technician during each course has kept me motivated and excited to learn more. Stenberg College Cardiology Technician program has prepared me greatly for the workforce. Every time someone asks me about my program I am always excited to explain the program and the profession to them. I have had many people who have asked me about this program and have mentioned that it is distance and their first response is ""oh really, your not doing any hands on?"". I always am excited to explain how great this program has prepared me to work as a casual tech currently and that this program is not like many as it has made me become organized, proficient, professional and gain time management skills greatly. I always am excited to mention the online theory has prepared me for the labs that we have to do hands on. Having that discipline that this program has taught me to have during theory components has greatly improved my performance in lab as I am prepared and have the professional skills to perform as a Cardiology Technician. Not only did the program change me as a professional student/Cardiology Technician, the instructors have motivated me and showed that finding that special thing that will keep you motivated during the course can greatly help. The instructors have taught me to respond professional to students and instructors through writing weekly forums and communicating online to everyone. That special thing that I have noticed during the course that has changed me was when I at anytime feeling stressed I find a youtube motivational speech and put it on, to know that I could do this. With this in mind, I have become more positive in performing my duties and have lowered my negativity against myself not only through school but as a person, for example as a competitive premier women's soccer goalkeeper, I have always been negative on myself as I blamed myself for any goals that went in and noticing staying positive and confident has been two great skills I have been developing through this course and I have shown a great improvement in both."

Worst place to ever go too. Stenberg might seem like a friendly nice school but trust me it's not its the worst. Teachers don't care about you they watch soap operas on the computer and do online shopping and then pretty much you have to be self taught. Student services are the worst to go to they never have an answer to anything they just babble away on stuff that is irrelevant. This school just wants your money BE AWARE and if you withdraw or get dismissed it's unsure of when they will get you back in that's how bad this school is

- I overall had a pretty positive experience with Stenberg - Many of the instructors were effective and very helpful (besides maybe one in particular) - Ended up landing a job after graduation which was a huge positive - I feel that either some people just didn't put in the required work and/or didn't get the required assistance when they needed it - These instructors could communicate while having a background in the field too. That's what I liked the most.

Degree: Laboratory Technician

My instructor was awesome. She always went above and beyond to teach us. We received honest feedback about our skills and if something wasn't working, she would do one on ones with us and give us specific tips and tricks. At times, it was stressful with the workload of some of the courses, but we did study groups to help each other out. Anytime I sent my instructor an email, I would always get an almost immediate response even if it was the weekend. Totally recommend doing the MLA program here. Lots of my friends did the program and are all working!! Thanks Stenberg!!

Horrible experience! No wonder the drop out rate is so high. The class started off with 30+ students! and now it's dropped more than 50%. The "teachers" are under qualified and treat their students like dirt. I won't ever recommend this college to anyone. I asked for assistance; it seemed as though it was too troubling for them. If there is something they can use against you, they will. They will grade you based on their grudges towards you.

I was treated very nicely and recruited by a seller basically who seemed very nice and concerned for my career goals. After I began the program, that person kinda disappeared and was replaced with instructors and admin people. None of which were really qualified to be teaching us. The "Canadian" people who taught us only seemed to have education as high as the degree we were trying to obtain ourselves. Although I could appreciate their experiences in a hospital setting, they were not qualified to be teachers and were actually very dismal at what they did. Most were young and happy for the chance to be any kind of leader and took it to their advantage by power tripping on the students who would be asking relevant questions. If you have any concerns as an individual that may need attention to be able to make accommodations so that you could complete the course, don't bother because Stenberg will just shove policy after policy down your throats and nothing will be done to accommodate you. This not only happened to myself, but to other individuals in my cohort as well. The entire year Stenberg was cracking the whip about plagiarism from the students while they themselves gave us many photocopied books rather than actual texts they were from as well as making PDF copies of chapters in texts from a very expensive and good textbook of anatomy and physiology while they sent their students a very cheap and incomprehensible one that was not sufficient to learn about body systems. Overall I'm very disappointed in this school and I feel robbed. If you want quality education, just go to the traditional schools. This one, although I have a good degree, was horrible. Be prepared to self teach if you do choose this school because they won't help you with that.

Degree: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
Graduation Year: 2014

When I first went to stenberg to register the school seemed decent to me but LOOKS WERE DECIEVING. The first week of class was smooth, but as I went threw more courses in the program, I figured out that STENBERG does not care about its students, we had our instructors changed three times in the same course and were expected to keep adjusting to them, and to top it off the instructors had no previous teaching history , they did not know how to run a class, they did not even have education on the curse they were teaching!! the instrucctor I have right now is very rude, cocky, mocks the students, makes fun of them in front of the whole class, belittles them, makes studets feel bad about how they look, also drops rude comments that are inappropriate and uncalled for,the class room is tiny and uncomfortable, and the teacher picks on you, does not help you when you need help and is ignorant, the teachers that I have had through out my entire program overall have made my eperience difficult, they have been no help, have no experience in the program and do not care for their students or to even get up and teach properly, the teacher I have right now has been teaching three courses so far and has not gotten up to even explain anything in the huge text books, basically go to school come hom and teach myself and write an exam.. he excuse is I cant teach you that, THEN WHY THE HELL DO WE COME TO SCHOOL I CAN JUST COME FOR AN EXAM IF I AM JUST GOING TO TEACH MYSELF!!

I have a friend who is teaching three courses for Stenberg this year. While I love her dearly, she has no previous teaching experience or teaching credentials. She has a three year diploma, but is not an RN, nor does she have a Masters degree. She does have a few years of psychiatric nursing experience, but as a staff nurse and not at a senior level.

Clearly, she is not qualified to teach. Therefore, any prospective students should ask for the credentials of those instructors in the courses they will be teaching.

The coursework for the psych nursing is very academic be prepared. The learning tools were good however this school has few rights for students that have a valid complaint against a Clinical Instructor/Professor.

There were major adminstrative shuffles during my program - Dean and Program Director. The Stenberg executives refused to listen or intervene on the students behalf. Finally had to go outside Stenberg to the accrediting body PCTIA to have my problems resolved.

I would recommend this course of action if you have had problems now or in the past.If noone speaks up nothing gets fixed! This was a labour intensive process which took months to be resolved but It did get resolved. The Stenberg fees $36000 + are not worth it! Douglas College is much more affordable!!!
