"This is a very well respected program in a highly respected school. Opportunities exist for collaboration across disciplines, and many teaching opportunities have been given to me as a grad student in a variety of areas. This school also offers top rate certificate programs to enhance the overall professionalism of the degree."

"Stony Brook offers very poor student housing and transportation options. Most graduate students live in the basement or garage of a single family home, paying rent directly to the family living in the main house. Social and cultural life on Long Island around the university is highly lacking for graduate students, as this area is a planned suburban community for family homes. Owning a car is mandatory, and cost of living far exceeds the stipeds PhD students receive. The department I am in is good, has great faculty and research opportunities. Outside of my department, I feel like the university is quite lacking."

"The graduate programs are very nice and prestiguous, but the university could benefit from more university facilitated interactions between students from different graduate programs."
