I've been attending Strayer University since July 2017 (summer term) without any issues with financial aid. I'm pursuing an associates degree in business administration. Near the end of their summer term hurricane season began where I reside in Georgia. Due to the effects of the hurricanes, the university offered effected students extra time to complete work that was due near the end of the term. As follows I received "I" grades for Incomplete for the Summer term. At this point I'm thinking everything is fine as I enrolled and completed the Fall 2017 term which started in October. Mind you I received financial aid for both Summer and Fall terms. Now it's January, and the Winter term has started and now I'm told that until my "I" grades are updated to As, Bs, Cs, etc that I'm not eligible for aid and will have to pay out of pocket. How screwed up is that??? Both of my past instructors "supposedly" submitted requests to update the Incomplete grades to actual grades, but nothing has been updated with Strayer and now I have a balance due from removal of my expected aid. It doesn't take days upon days to complete grade changes/updates. My advice is don't attend Strayer unless you want a creative way to get screwed over. I've called countless times with no response and no one is able to tell me how long this will take. Everyone gives you the runaround and acts as if you are bothering them. So in the meantime I'm expected to attend classes that I can't pay for without financial aid. Then they wonder why for-profit schools get a bad reputation.
Strayer University in Columbus, Georgia has showed my lack of care and integrity for my education. Strayer University has caused my life to be hard because each day I'm dealing with a negative credit report due to Strayer University. I hope that no other student has the experience like I did.
The instructors were the best part by far, very knowledgeable and helpful. Any of the administration, not as helpful unfortunately. I spent 3 quarters here using 6 months of my GI Bill Benefits that I won't get back. Each of those 3 quarters they found a way to further screw up my livelihood. As a veteran student on VA benefits, my rent, car payment, other major bills of life were paid to me by the VA based on my enrollment in school. I saw this as an opportunity to focus on school versus working, but this also meant a dependence on my school to do their job pushing info to the VA, or if there are issues with that to, you know, let me know somehow!! On 3 occasions I have been nearly evicted, had my car repossessed, had my internet and electricity cut off...not to mention taking on more and more debt with friends and family who didn't want to see me struggle. All because my action was required for something and they never let me know, no email, no phone call, no mentioning it when I would check in with the campus office monthly, nothing said until it was too late to fix. The third and final time they told me that I shouldn't have been allowed to enroll in classes a month prior, because I didn't appeal the screw up they had from the last quarter. I was dropped from all classes on the 31st and was once again broke on the 1st of the month when all bills are due. Then they had the gall to try and fix it before winter quarter, to get me back, to which I replied that I would not be returning to them, ever!!! Potential student BEWARE!!
I went to Strayer University from 2001 thru 2007. I completed my Bachelor's in Information System and was unable to get a job in the field. I then discussed with one of the counselor about switching my major to accounting since I could not get a job in computer's. I was advised that I could start a Master's program in Accounting since I had required credits and classes. What they did not tell me was that I was missing 4 essential classes in order to obtain my CPA designation. I did not find this out until the last class of the Master's degree and after obtaining more student loan debt. So obviously, I could not obtain a job in the accounting field either. Unable to start paying student loans back, I continued my education in the Master's Degree of Information Systems. After completing the degree, I was still unable to obtain a job in the computer field. I found out that the reason for this was that Strayer was not considered a recognized college. I now had $100,000, school debt and no job.
I started back in 2003 and started my MBA program, and I was very successful in getting this degree and then came back to work on a 2nd degree because I started working for them and I only had one problem when I finished no one told me I was at my aggregate limit so that was the only problem I gad but for the most part I did understand my teachers and how they taught.
The worst experience ever financial aid is horrible main office is horrible never have people to help it's my last semester here once you enroll they have all the people for you to talk with after that you can't get in contact with anyone. Certain situations they don't know how to help. Horrible school everything about it
This is my 2nd year at strayer & I love it. The professors & coaches always respond to emails very quickly, the finiancial aid process was a little hectic but I expected it to be so and now everything's right on track. I highly recommend this school.
I personally have had no issues with this school since I started in 2014. I have had access to my coaches and instructors throughout and even got my best friend to enroll this year. Working to achieve your dreams is super hard and demands that you possess a characteristic that is strong enough to be proactive independently. Things do not always just land in your lap so it is up to you to make sure things are in order. Best wishes!
This is my first semester with Strayer and the last one. I have had the worst experience with Strayer. The financial aid department is the worst that I have ever seen. Why allow a student to start classes and not have them approved for financial aid. Instead you say that they are going to get you approved and allow you to start taking classes and then make several excuses as to documents that you need and then when you turn them in they find something else you need. I have been going through this with them since beginning of June 2017. So now I have to pay out of pocket for something that should have been paid for by financial aid. I have already enrolled in another school. I would not recommend this school to anyone unless you have the money to pay out of pocket and even if you did I would pick a better school. The staff is the worst and very unprofessional and rude and not helpful at all, even the Dean!
I have been enrolled for almost 2 months now doing my school work and turning it in on time and know they are saying that they don't accept my high school diploma I mean what the hell they say at the beginning o we take your diploma and now into two months after they call and say they are dropping me from my classes because they don't take my diploma I wouldn't recommend this college to anyone they are nothing but a liars.
