"The professors are well educated and many of them previously worked in the field pertaining to your major. This college is geared toward working adults, so the schedule is very flexible. From online, class, study group, or individual study with your professor."

"SUNY Empire State College is an institution that doesn't care about academics. The people who speak at their graduation ceremonies are not the top GPA earners, but the published and most popular or capable of achieving "press coverage" for their work at the school. It's a politics game through and through. Sometimes it's just that the faculty refuses to recommend a students that they don't like - so if you attend know that your GPA means nothing. Also: do no get involved with any programs run out of Saratoga Springs. They are incredibly disconnected from reality and student life as a whole."

"I'm halfway through my bachelor's degree with Empire. I must admit, even though I am thinking of majoring in something they don't offer a bachelor's degree in which is Social Work or Nursing, I am a little nervous about leaving behind my mentor, the financial aid office, student accounts, and academic coaching. All of these departments, including admissions, are extremely dedicated. Yes they make mistakes but they are apologetic and they correct them promptly. Their Center for Distance Learning is built around working adults with either online courses or online independent studies. It's been very flexible and accommodating for me. I feel I'm learning a lot and am getting a well rounded liberal arts education. I'm going to be going more into the sciences now- psychology. They've got great classes for that as well. Professors are easy to communicate with as well. When you put in effort to communicate frequently and politely with questions they really make it a point to respond. I like that. Overall, I'd be proud to say I finished my bachelor's degree here. I might even do the combined bachelor's master of education. I don't know yet. But if I do, my mentor will make sure I get into all the right classes to make it happen. Definitely check out Empire. It's a very good look for an online education."

"All classes were soley offered online which provided the flexibility to continue working full time while earning my degree. The interactions with fellow students and professors was very helpful in my development throughout the coursework. I was satisfied with the overall quality of the education provided and limited cost as it is a State school and I am a resident of New York State."

"A helpful program with mentors / professors that truly listen. As long as you put forth the effort you will succeed here. You have the option to write papers about subjects that you know well. Transfer credits from APs and CLEPs and of course take traditional as well as,online classes."

"I love this school! The only downfall is needing more degrees available online but out of all the SUNY schools they have the most online degrees to choose from. My professors are all very helpful and professional. This is definitely not a diploma mill. The work is structured and challenging. You are assigned a mentor that you can contact anytime with questions which is helpful. I was actually contacted by the Financial Aid director a few weeks ago when my Financial Aid was sent in for approval for this fall. Apparently, they are no longer able to offer online degrees to certain states with Arkansas being one of them. Fortunately, I am relocating back to New York in a few week so it is not an issue but the fact that the Director of Financial Aid contacting me herself to offer any help with changing schools and to let me know as soon as possible really meant a lot to me. I also received an e-mail from another employee of the school (someone I've never dealt with before) just last week after all the tornadoes we had. She wanted to ensure that I was okay. I found this to be impressive as well. Granted, for all I know I'm their only student in Arkansas but it still meant a lot that they thought of me and checked in on me. For now I plan to continue at this school unless I decide to change to a degree program that they do not offer here. It's a great school and I highly recommend it. Oh, and they offer an out of state scholarship if you aren't a NY state resident which make it very comparable to the in-state tuition pricing and not much higher at all than a community college."
