I attended Ashford University for my Bachelor's in Social and Criminal Justice. I have nothing but good things to say about this college. All of the instructor's were very helpful, as was the enrollment, financial, and student support offices. I never had any trouble receiving funds and always received responses in a timely manner. I am a Junior at Ashford University, and can say that so far it has been one amazing and challenging journey. I hear a lot of people down playing Ashford's accreditation, and just want to state that there are 6 major accrediting agents in the United States, and the WASC "Western Association of Schools and Colleges" is one of them. Those who fail to succeed have to have someone to blame for their failures and who else better to blame than the school they attend, rather than their on lack of dedication. I am not one to brag; however, I have been very successful in college and think I have made the best choice in choosing Ashford to lead me to success. Yes, it may be a little expensive; however, I do believe you get what you pay for in an education. School is what gives you the tools to work with; It is your place to choose whether to use those tools or not, and whether you choose to initiate them. NO school can make you a 4.0 or a 2.0 student, only the student has the power over his or her success in college and after. I am a 4.0 student with Ashford. I am there to make something out of myself, and I did not know that I was capable of such success as I feel like I am the least smart of most; however, I study hard. First, you have to determine why you are in school in the first place? Are you there for the education, or the finance? If you are in school for a great education, I would highly recommend Ashford, it is very challenging and fulfills well-rounded educational goals. If you are worried about being financially taken care of rather than an education, go to human services for help because you will never get much further than welfare. Anyway, this is my moral and ethical opinion regarding most of the negative thoughts I have read against Ashford University.

I feel like I must warn people of this university. I have completed 95 credit hours with Ashford and yesterday they placed a hold on my account. After several (around 3 phone calls and 2 e-mails sent) I finally got in touch with my advisor. He told me that I needed to take another English class (eng122) or I wouldn't meet graduating requirements. I was told when I started that all of my English credits transferred when I began to take classes. Don't get me wrong, if another English class was required... Read More from the beginning I would have done it. The point here is that they waited until I was almost ready to graduate to tell me that I had to pay another $750.00 for this class. I feel like they tried to ripe me off. This is just the most recent issue I've had with Ashford and the one that finally got me fed up. I've had issues with being dropped from classes because the TA office didn't process my TA in a timely fashion, then they would blame it on me for not sending it in on time. Fortunately for me I keep all e-mails and I would send the message I sent them and they would say sorry we must have over looked it. Then I've had issues with most of my advisors (they change a lot) not returning my calls or e-mails for several days. This university has also been on the diploma mill site, found that out yesterday. DO NOT ATTEND Ashford.

As a military member, I found Ashford to be incredibly user friendly. As with anything, you have to take the good with the bad and no school that you attend will be 100% perfect. The professors that I had were all knowledgeable, and each had their own way of teaching and presenting material. I really believed that I could attend an online school to obtain my bachelor's degree with all the hype my admissions counselor gave me, with call after call; they really wear you down. I agreed even though I thought the cost was too high. Now here I am, 8 days from graduation, and they decide that I have been over-awarded, said they refunded my financial aid back to the service lender (BS), my crossover Pell was a partial, and a part of that was taken away. I call the financial aid department at... Read More Ashford and all they tell me is contact your advisor. Trying to get ahold of my advisor is like trying to meet with the Pope! And all the financial information I have received in the past 4 months has been more BS. I have been threatened that if I don't pay what is owed I will be pulled from class, not graduate or allowed my transcripts. I am beyond furious and frustrated with the complete run around. All the information from FAFSA, NSLDCS, Dept. Of Education and my lenders all say different things, as well as the multiple award letters from Ashford; none are on the same page. I am angry and want to know why at this late juncture that now I owe money that I know full well Ashford received and now want more. Disgusted and will NOT recommend this school to anyone. I will be attending a brick and mortar school for my Master's degree.

Overall Ashford University was so easy to work with. I struggled to find consistent grading amongst the different instructors, but overall did not have any serious problems. I had an Associates Degree that transferred and I chose Ashford because the accepted to most credits out of any other college I looked at. However, due to the difference between regional and national accreditation I ended up retaking a few classes I had already done for my Associates Degree. I do wish that they had job placement... Read More assistance, because I have really struggled finding quality employment. Their career services do help with resume building, I just don't think that's enough. They also do well at finding and building partnerships with employers to help with tuition assistance or reimbursement. There were always announcements about who they had formed new partnerships with. It would also have been beneficial to have more of an open forum for all online students to network other than those that we were in class with. Overall, they were easy to get ahold of when I had a question or needed a pointer, didn't have any significant problems, and were pretty up front about everything. I would definitely recommend them to others and I already have.

I started going to school in person at a local college back in 02 right after graduation. When I got married I moved, so I couldn't continue on there. I started another school when the military decided time to move us again. I gave up on going back to school. It wasn't until my husband enrolled to use his TA from the military that I even considered going back. His counselor talked to me and she eventually talked me into it. I've not regretted it since. I'm enjoying the pace (I've doubled up on classes... Read More taking 2 every 5wks vs the normal 1) and I like the feedback from professors. It fits great into my time of being a mom, a volunteer, a wife, and a small business owner. I haven't had any real problems from Ashford. I've encountered things I encountered at other schools (rude faculty, smart butt students, etc) but nothing horrible. I can't wait to graduate in 2014. I will say I'm glad they offer the Military SPOUSE a military tuition discount also. That has made life a lot easier. It even includes the textbook for free. Trust me that was something that cost me tons prior. I do appreciate it.
