"I really believed that I could attend an online school to obtain my bachelor's degree with all the hype my admissions counselor gave me, with call after call; they really wear you down. I agreed even though I thought the cost was too high. Now here I am, 8 days from graduation, and they decide that I have been over-awarded, said they refunded my financial aid back to the service lender (BS), my crossover Pell was a partial, and a part of that was taken away. I call the financial aid department at Ashford and all they tell me is contact your advisor. Trying to get ahold of my advisor is like trying to meet with the Pope! And all the financial information I have received in the past 4 months has been more BS. I have been threatened that if I don't pay what is owed I will be pulled from class, not graduate or allowed my transcripts. I am beyond furious and frustrated with the complete run around. All the information from FAFSA, NSLDCS, Dept. Of Education and my lenders all say different things, as well as the multiple award letters from Ashford; none are on the same page. I am angry and want to know why at this late juncture that now I owe money that I know full well Ashford received and now want more. Disgusted and will NOT recommend this school to anyone. I will be attending a brick and mortar school for my Master's degree."

"Ashford University is a joke and a half. When I enrolled I told them I wanted to finish my Early Childhood Degree. They assured me that that would be no problem. I started classes and the subjects I was taking, had nothing to do with Early Childhood teaching. When I was about done with my degree I contacted them about my student teaching, and they informed me that the degree I was getting was not an early Childhood Degree. Wasted time and Money stay away from them."

"Even though I am a graduate from the online degree program, every advisor I spoke with in the phone genuinely cared about me and my success as an individual. It motivated me to excel and graduate with high honors. Advice I would give to prospecting students would be: if you are thinking about which accredited school to choose, online or on campus, Ashford University is a great choice when it comes to graduation rate and success for those alumni. One thing that really stands out besides the statistics is how the advisors make you feel special and help you make your dreams a reality in the best way possible."

"Disliked the school and had problems with Financial Aid. They made an error on my financial aid and then requested the amount due after graduation. No problem except every time I called in they gave me a different reason it was owed. After they sent to collections I disputed the amount and finally got a solid explanation of what happened. Happy to pay what is owed in payments; however, collections wants me to pay 3x what my school loan payment is and they are still going to report it as in collections. Thanks Ashford! A perfect end to an already horrible experience."

"I have enjoyed my experience at Ashford University. Being an online student with a reputable university allows me the freedom to work around my schedule and to know that my degree backed Forbes School of Business. I have enjoyed my instructors and my advising staff. They are there to work with me when I have questions. The quality of materials is excellent."

"Ashford has great student advisors, they're always helpful but I have an issue with the instructors and the degree program. First of all, I was able to CLEP two classes and was told that these classes would go against my degree program, these classes took but my graduation date was pushed back. Then I received an email from my student advisor stating my two classes were not sufficient for my upper division classes and had to two more elective classes. Please note, before I transferred those credits and before I started at Ashford, my electives were already taken care of. So, it just seems really shady and seems as though Ashford is trying to receive more money from me. Not only that, the instructors are really poor, one instructor will accept your homework late as long as you tell them weeks prior and others will still deduct points from you even if it's late. I had an instructor deduct points from me even though I just had major surgery and was bed rest, drugged up on meds. I asked the instructor why and he stated he had to, he also stated I didn't tell him in time. When in all actuality, I told him the day before the class started and told him I was having surgery that Thursday and will be on bed rest for two weeks. I also sent him a doctor's note but apparently, none of those sufficed. I did receive an A in the class so I didn't want to fight with the instructor but this is an example on how Ashford's instructors work. The only part I like about Ashford is the accelerated classes. Other than that, I do not advise prospective students to go to Ashford."

"Going to Ashford was very different because I have never finished a degree online before. When I applied I was just finishing my second Associates degree and I was changing from the medical field to the Education field so I decided to go to Ashford because I was looking for something different and I was looking for a complete change in how I got my education. There was so many different things I was looking for in a school to complete my undergrad degree. And now that I have completed my degree I am very happy to share my story with anyone who is willing to listen."

"Overall Ashford University was so easy to work with. I struggled to find consistent grading amongst the different instructors, but overall did not have any serious problems. I had an Associates Degree that transferred and I chose Ashford because the accepted to most credits out of any other college I looked at. However, due to the difference between regional and national accreditation I ended up retaking a few classes I had already done for my Associates Degree. I do wish that they had job placement assistance, because I have really struggled finding quality employment. Their career services do help with resume building, I just don't think that's enough. They also do well at finding and building partnerships with employers to help with tuition assistance or reimbursement. There were always announcements about who they had formed new partnerships with. It would also have been beneficial to have more of an open forum for all online students to network other than those that we were in class with. Overall, they were easy to get ahold of when I had a question or needed a pointer, didn't have any significant problems, and were pretty up front about everything. I would definitely recommend them to others and I already have."

"For the most part I had a good experience especially with the counslers as they were very helpful with my needs. However some of the instructors did not give very good instruction as they had a hard time articulating what they wanted. This made it hard to understand how to deliver an assignment to the quality and standards that were expected."

Ashford University is the Best! - 7/31/2014
Degree: Journalism
Graduation Year: 2014
"I enrolled with Ashford in 2011, and have never regretted the decision. I never had a problem and am surprised by some other's view of the school. From the time of application to completion everything that I experienced in the classes, the work, the faculty and financial department was on point.I graduated in April with a Bachelor of Art Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication with a GPA of 3.48, and am now Studying for my Master of Organization Management. I love it! A couple of things that I would suggest for students looking at online courses is to have good study habits already, because there is no one to partner with as in study buddies unless you know someone already. Additionally, reading is a must, as well as writing skills which is 99% of any college curriculum. Finally, have your financial aid app in before you enroll that way everything will go like clock work. Other than that, expect greatness and greatness is what you will receive."
