"I feel like Truman State University did a poor job at preparing me for a real world job. My concentration was photography and within less than 5 years everything was digital and all my training was in 35mm. I was already out of my element and I was barely 28 years old. I honestly can not fathom that the art department did not see that HUGE transition in the field of photography coming. Not only that but there was a tremendous emphasis on art history. While that is clearly important, taking 30 hours in it was a bit over kill and wasted time that could have been focused on concrete learning of process."

"Truman prides itself on being a "challenging" school, but it is really just professors who don't know how to teach and make classes much more intense than they need to be. The nursing school does nothing to help students who are struggling, even though students continuously fail the same classes year after year. Nothing gets changed. Being in northeast Missouri, the clinical sites are terrible and they do not prepare you to be a nurse. If you are wanting to go into nursing, do not come here. Go to a school that actually cares about their students."

"I attended Truman State University and received a degree in health science. I would highly recommend Truman to future students as I believe there are many unique benefits the school offers. The first is a focus on preparing students for graduate school. Many who attend the school are accepted into competitive programs whether it be for medicine, law, or a PhD. The professors work closely with students to ensure we learn to think critically and acquire the skills necessary to be successful. The cost of attending the university is also good considering the quality of the education. This is the perfect school for those who want quality and affordability."

"Not all college experiences are created equal, it depends on many factors one of which is the effort the student puts in"

"Truman is a good school if you are on a tight budget; most of the students get a financial aid, and compared to other schools, the tuition is much more affordable. The faculty to student ratio of 1:16 makes communications between students and faculty much easier, as well. Overall, the campus is pretty safe, and if you are looking to focus on academic only, it is a decent school to go to. Those facts aside, the city of Kirksville does not offer many places to go for shopping or too much entertainment, which could be a downer for some people. And unless a student brings in a college credit, due to the liberal arts curriculum, you will have to take more gen. ed (LSP courses) compared to the other universities, which could take away your time to focus on your own major study (especially as a music major, this took away my time to practice for my solos and ensemble music). Overall, Truman State is a good school and affordable to many. And the education program (MAE) lets the student get a Masters Degree within five years, and most students get a job after the degree."

"I graduated with my Bachelor in Psychology in December 2016, and started graduate school in January 2017, I feel genuinely lucky that I am able to attend Truman's Master of Arts in Education graduate program. The faculty and staff are beyond helpful and have worked very hard to shape their students into future educators. Their insights have helped me discover my own philosophy of teaching; I have discovered myself in terms of who I want to be as an educator. My professors care about me as an individual and they all know me by name. Being in such small classes is rewarding in that way. I know that I will be fully prepared when I leave graduate school in December of 2017, as I have learned so much in my time here at TSU. I still have 8 months or so in the program, and I am excited to learn even more things to help me become a teacher. I have come into contact with so many Truman MAE graduates who are successful and excellent role models. I hope to become as successful as them one day. To those who are looking into the education program at Truman State University: it is excellent. The professors truly care about your success, and will go out of their way to help you in whatever way they can. The courses are challenging, but so rewarding. I truly would not want to attend graduate school anywhere else."

"Truman State University, a small liberal arts school in northeastern Missouri, has prepared me for my career more than I ever thought possible. I received a Master of Education from Truman. The education program at Truman State University is rigorous and led by well-educated, experienced professors. The small class sizes allowed for close relationships with highly qualified professors. My education professors were experts in their field and possessed vast experience in classrooms. They were able to impart knowledge based on their own research, coursework, and experiences. In addition to the amazing instructors, the program offers several clinical experiences at varying levels of involvement and at varying grade levels. By the time I graduated, I had more than one-hundred hours of experience in grades 1-12, with the exception of 2nd and 5th grade. The opportunities to apply the knowledge I gained in a variety of classroom experiences prepared me for my first year of teaching and beyond. I felt prepared in interviews and in my first teaching position. I would not be the teacher I am today without this rigorous program and support from incredible professors."

"Truamn State was a great school for academics and the teachers were some of the tops in their field. I feel like it was extremely difficult to graduate any program at Truman within a 4 year timeline and this does not allow for your typical college experience. Although Truman is a less expensive public school, my particular degree forced me to attend graduate school, and I no longer have the funds in my federal funding to complete schooling without finishing school on my own. My advice to future students looking at Truman, although the teachers and the education are phenomenal make sure that the degree you receive is one that can help you without having to continue further if you do not wish to go to graduate school."

"Truman is an excellent choice for any student looking for academic rigor and a supportive academic community. My classes were challenging, but my professors were all rooting for my success, and were willing to help me in any way possible. There are hundreds of organizations on campus, so there are a multitude of opportunities to get involved doing something that you love, or something that you've always wanted to try. While the town of Kirksville is small and fairly unexciting, SAB does a great job of providing fun events to attend throughout each semester. There is almost always something happening every evening, so it isn't easy to get bored. Truman provided me a great academic experience for a great price, and it set me up for future success."

"Truman was amazing! I loved the small class sizes and close interaction with professors. I had the chance to do undergraduate research, which wouldn't have been possible in a larger school, and doing that gave me so much experience!"

"The faculty are not particularly talented or knowledgeable, but you get what you pay for. There is good thinking happening in the Business program though. For example, the focus on group projects and presentations is incredibly helpful for a real-world job. Also, the focus on professional development and career preparedness is very good."

"Sadly, Truman's MAE program suffers greatly because the instructors are of poor quality and the surrounding schools are a sampling of some of the least-diverse elementary schools in the country. Cash Cow school--students come in, pay, get a degree. No expectations of quality or excellence."

"My university is the best in the Midwest! Small, but not too small, it is situated in a cute little town without too many distractions and everything a college student on a budget needs. The vast majority of my professors have been extremely helpful and well-versed in the field of study they are teaching. The only thing I have not appreciated is that they have classes that I was looking forward to taking but that are major restricted because they do not have enough professors. For instance, Creative Writing and musical instrument learning classes are off-limits to me as a Psychology major."
