"UAB, in general, is a great school for those interested in the sciences. After graduating from undergrad, I decided to pursue a Master's in Biotechnology. The pros of this graduate program is that for one, it opens up vast career opportunities that will continue to be in demand since technology continues to improve people's lives. The program also provides hands on experience in the laboratory and is not like your average classroom where you're lectured at. Although I haven't started classes yet, the work load does not seem too bad and only takes a year to complete! The only con that I would have to mention is that the program does not provide any scholarships or fellowships to pay for tuition since it is a relatively new program on campus. Nevertheless, I am very excited about beginning a new and rewarding career in biotechnology that will allow me to contribute to my community in the future."

"The pros of this program are the networking that goes on between all the students. The program is done on a cohort model so that all students complete the program together. I can not think of any negatives at this time."

"As a frequently overlooked university, I feel that the University of Alabama at Birmingham has done a tremendous job developing an academic acclaim in a very short period of time. The research being performed at UAB rivals, and in some cases surpasses, the research being done at much larger well-known institutions. The only negative would have to be its location in the center of a fairly large city which unfortunately exposes students to a wide array of unsavory individuals that inhabit most inner cities. Other than the occasional encounter with transients, UAB is a fantastic school."

"A very competitive program to get into. I like the broad specialty options offered by the school. The distance learning program allows me to pursue my career goal without having to quit my job and go back to school."

"The professors are wonderful and the class sizes are typically small. I love that there are plenty of quiet places to study and that professors are available to meet with you and discuss anything you need to discuss. They are also very quick to respond to emails. I love UAB."

"This program is ranked one of the top in the country, and is very affordable in comparison to other schools. Cost of living is also very low in Birmingham. However, public transportation is almost nonexistent, and there is not much to do in the area."

"Some of the faculty are caring but others are not because of the reputation of the school. Many administrative personnel are very helpful and want you to succeed but some people in admin are purposely misleading in order to maintain their quotas in the different programs."

"The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) has produced some of the finest healthcare professionals in the country. Professors strive to implement a more hands on approach in the nursing graduate program. While the comprehensive clinical exam was created to evaluate how students apply assessment techniques in the clinical setting, a hands on approach throughout the curriculum will yield a higher success rate and better scientists. The professors had ongoing communication with students through live chat and emails. I was impressed by the response time between emails and graded assignments. I chose to pursue my doctoral degree at UAB because I was pleased with the staff's eagerness to assist students with achieving their career goals."

"Coursework is where you really see the greatness in this program. The faculty is comprised of very knowledgable and accomplished scientists. My specific program could have offered more support in a better internship experience. I feel that the internship would have been more effective if it were longer than a semester."

"It is one of the most reputable medical schools in the south. There are multiple renowned faculty members that help push the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine in the vanguard of the medical education arena. The only caveat I can provide is the high cost of out-of-state tuition for students like me."

"The AMNP program at the University of AL, Birmingham is a fast paced top notch Nursing program that allows post-bachelorate students the opportunity to get paid for what they love doing. The professors understand their students and go out of their way to help. The program prepares their students well for success once they complete their work in classes. The AMNP is also hard work, though, and isn't for the faint-hearted. It demands your focus and attention. Like every school their is busy work and hoops that you have to jump through, but that is part of the learning process, and will train you to be a better professional in the long run."

"The SOPH at UAB is a great program. The faculty is very knowledgeable and readily available to discuss any issues you might have. The epidemiology program is exceptional. The proffessors are very helpful and explain the information in an easily digestible way. The faculty is easy to approach if you need to discuss anything with them and they are always very helpful. Transportation to and from campus can be expensive due to an enormous amount of traffic and parking on campus is a nightmare."

"Pros are that the graduate faculty is always willing to help students if needed. Further, their love for the areas in which they are experts makes classes more exciting for students. A con may be the potential for advisors not getting to know their advisees well enough in order to provide adequate guidance."

"I thoroughly enjoyed the teacher education program at UAB. The network of professionals and contacts that I came to know has been far extended beyond program completion and graduation. It was truly one of the best educational experiences I've ever had."

"1. Health Education, in the School of Education, my program, is connected to other programs in other schools wth in the university (ie: Public Health, School of Medicine, Counselor Education). 2. The goals and objectives of the program are succinct and clearly stated. One knows what courses one needs to take to reach their goal of a graduate degree. 3. One is given a choice between thesis option and comps/internship option. This is helpful to people like me, who can do research, but have health conditions which impede 1:1 work with patients/clients. 4. All professors have university emails, making them available to students for advising and assistance 24/7. 5. The courses offered prepare students for real life - theory is substantiated by current events. 6. The only drawback is that although year-round attendance is necessary to graduate, many courses are taught only in one term (and very few courses are offered during the summer)."

"I take on line courses, so do not live on or near campus, so unable to rate several of the questions above. The graduate nursing program is amazing, very tough, yet good. The instructors are incredible, available 24/7 to answer questions, help, etc. I have been very impressed with the nursing faculty."
