"It's a great school! Nice network in the department. Con: not able to find housing within walking distance. But the bus system is great (even though there is overcrowding sometimes)."

"Pros: The faculty are amazing and very supportive. They are very keen on making sure their students succeed and can flourish in the academic environment. Professors are frequently responsive and organized. Information regarding other graduate level opportunities (i.e travel grants, fellowship info) are all publicized and communicated. Cons: Financial aid is a little unreliable. Labs sometimes cannot support students regularly. Establishing criteria and requirements for graduation (preliminary & comprehensive exams) has been rocky. Very little information was provided during the transition time, so students were unaware of expectations."

"Pros: Great facilities, faculties are very friendly and helpful, good quality of courses. Cons: Insufficient funding and financial support, especially for international students. The diversity of courses offered each quarter should be improved."

"This program is very supportive of its students while maintaining a high quality education. Our class size is relatively small, which allows a greater amount of interaction with faculty. I feel that our program offers one-on-one support that you just don't find at other institutions."

"While I enjoy my lab and principle investigator immensely, the graduate group does not offer much in the way of courses, support, or activities. Additionally, I had a lot of financial issues my first year that still have not been resolved by the program. Lastly, the students have a large role in making the program better and, unfortunately while their ideas are welcomed, they do not seem to be utilized."

"Overall, I think that the UC Davis GGI is a great program for those seeking to get an education and higher degree in the field of immunology. The program really goes out of its way to engage the students socially, and ultimately provide a nurturing environment for students to grow both scientifically and personally. That being said, given the difficult climate in science currently, with pay lines under 5-7%, it may be advantageous to instill better work ethic and use of time as post-doctoral fellowships don't often allow for recreational sports and get togethers. Some students are graduating the program thinking that science careers are less rigorous than they actually are and unfortunately are almost going into "culture shock.""

"The opportunity to do quality research will largely depend on your advisor.. who happened to be one of the leaders in the field in my case."

"UC Davis has a high quality physics program that is nationally recognized. Many of the professors in the program are leaders in their fields. Unlike some programs of this caliber, there is very little competition between students. I had wonderful study groups for all of my classes and felt that the professors really want everyone to succeed. Another great thing about the UC Davis program is the large number of TA assistantships. There have only been a few cases where someone needed a TA position for funding but there have been several occasions where there are not enough TA's to fill all the positions. This means that students are almost guaranteed to have funding available to them during their entire graduate career."

"I am a student at the Bay Area campus which doesn't offer all the amenities of the full-time day program offered at Davis, but it is still a high-quality and worthwhile endeavor. The professor's actually commute to the Bay Area to teach us, so we are receiving the same education and degree as the full-time day program."

"The College of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis is one of, if not the, best programs in the world. The faculty support and campus resources are amazing. You can tell that the professors here love to teach, and they are always open to questions. There is a mentorship program where you can get paired with a faculty mentor that will help guide you through vet school. Whatever you want to do as a vet, there is a huge array of resources to help you get there. This school makes me want to stay a student forever!"

"The quality of the education content I rated highly because I have learned so much from my professors in my first year. I also value highly the experience of being a teaching assistant. I think it is a very valuable program to be involved in. The only negative comment would be that it is difficult to find funding for me. I was not always made aware of scholarship and grant opportunities that should have been communicated to me."

It was a good fit for me because I came from a small town and Davis was a quaint college town as well.Would you get the same degree if you could start over?Yes, because I can use my learning to help me become successful in both my personal and professional lives. What advice can you offer other students?Have fun in college and enjoy the experience. Do not worry too much about your degree as experience will matter more."

"The school is very strong and is growing, but it is still a small program and they treat you as such. The vibe is very tight-knit, and all of the staff will know you by name very shortly."
