"I attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and majored in Psychology and minored in Education Studies and Chicana/o Studies. I will first start off with UCLA in general. UCLA is a beautiful campus with many coffee shops to do your homework in. One of my favorite things at UCLA was the facts that libraries become open for 24 hours during finals week! This is helpful if you can't concentrate at home/dorm/apartment. UCLA also offers a free laptop loaning program for students for a certain number of hours. You need the laptop for a little longer? Renew it online! One thing about UCLA is that it also runs on the quarter system. This means you have classes for 10 weeks only. It goes by pretty fast and I personally prefer it over the semester system (which feels like an eternity to me). The services that you get at UCLA are pretty dependent on the program you are in. Advisors in the Education and Chicana/o Studies departments were very sweet and helpful! They created an environment where you can always ask them questions about your schedule, minor/major classes, and advice. On the other hands, advisors in the psychology department were always busy. Sessions were 15 minutes only."

"UCLA has a diverse community of students that definitely made me a better human being and student. I interacted with people from all over the world, and participated in very interesting classes. Most professors are knowledgeable and friendly, but the one problem UCLA has is that most professors in the science fields are there for research and not for teaching. That means some are very bad at teaching and their TAs end up doing most of the work. Also, as a pre-med student, there are no counselors to help you find your path to medical school. There is no pre-med or pre-health committee, and you are absolutely on your own, which can be overwhelming. If you happen to already have a mentor that can guide you through the medical school process, then UCLA will be a great school. If you don't, you should find one so that you're not completely lost when it comes time to apply to medical school. As for the facilities, UCLA is a gorgeous school that has everything and anything you might need. The gym is greatly equipped and available to students almost all day long. There are free psychological services if you require that. There are thousands of student groups, so you can find people with your same interests no matter what those might be. There are D1 sports and intramural sports for you to participate in. There are millions of quiet study places, both indoors and outdoors. The library is also fantastic! You can study, sleep, rent books, computers and print documents. Overall, I am extremely happy with my experience at UCLA and I would encourage everyone to become a Bruin!"

"UCLA is an incredibly prestigious university and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to attend. When I first got to UCLA, I didn't know how I would keep up with the rigorous academic standards. I felt overwhelmed. It took a while of overwhelmed stress until I understood what worked for me and how I could succeed in my studies. It took me a long time to understand how to navigate the social and physical landscape of UCLA, how to effectively take notes and study, and how to take care of myself. The concepts I learned in Psychology and in Education Studies were so incredibly interesting and I learned the words and terms to articulate things I had always known but never quite understood -- as well as concepts that I had just learned. I learned how to read research papers and how to conduct research myself. I feel like I have learned so much and I can't wait to continue that learning. Not only has UCLA challenged me academically, my four undergraduate years have been full of professional and personal growth. Throughout my life, I battled with an internalized racism and homophobia, but because of the resources available to me, I have developed a grounded sense of self. I believe this was only possible at a place like UCLA. Of course, there have been extreme challenges and obstacles thrown in my way, but I learned effective and healthy ways to deal with them. I have an ingrained Bruin Pride that fueled my desire to continue my journey at UCLA; I feel academically prepared to continue with my Master in Social Welfare here."

"UCLA was a spectacular place to pursue my studies. I do wish they offered more specialized degrees as I am pursuing a masters degree in occupational therapy and needed to take a few classes after I graduated in order to be able to apply for the program. In that aspect, I was not prepared since my degree was in linguistics and psychology. Regardless, I would not change my place of study!"

"UCLA is an amazing school, full of opportunities, recourse, research, student run clubs, passionate professors, and school spirit. Due to its large class, you will meet all kinds of people and learn about many cultures. There are multiple libraries and study spots students can go to for studying. UCLA offers tutoring services and professors/TAs offer office hours."

"I had an amazing experience as an undergraduate at UCLA. Every job that I have had since graduating has been through UCLA. I am currently waiting to hear back from UCLA's MSW program and I would be delighted to go back to UCLA to further my education!"

"UCLA was a great place for someone who wanted a diverse array of experiences. I didn't know what I wanted to get out of college going in, but with so many majors, programs, people, groups and classes I felt like I found my place - which was vastly different than my friends, but that just made it all the better."

"UCLA provided a diverse, rich and opportunistic experience for me. They helped foster autonomy and encouraged us to explore any career avenue we were interested in and helped us explore our options before we decided to pick a career choice. The school's spirit, resources and mentors helped me get to where I am now!"

"Top notch education. The school is large, so making friends can be a challenge, but the dorm experience helps with that. The neighborhood is expensive, the in-state tuition is a bargain, but prepare to pay for parking at the grocery store, out to dinner, and everywhere else. Beautiful sculpture gardens and tons of top-notch research opportunities. The Alumni network is very active in California, and some other metro areas. This is not the school for individualized attention."

"UCLA is an amazing institution, not only for its academic excellence, but the quality of people who attend. The campus has unparalleled beauty, combining the awe inspiring architecture of Ivy league schools with the background of Southern California weather. There's always something going on on campus, whether it's a social event put on by the Student Alumni Association or one of the other hundreds of student groups, or an academic talk being given by a world renowned speaker, UCLA offers all you could ever hope for in a college, and more. Even though it's a public school, there is an unique sense of pride among alumni, and we all do what we can when we can to support fellow Bruins."

"College experience was excellent. Psych major was a bit too clinical for my taste. I also minored in Political Science and Education. Both minors I enjoyed. UCLA is an excellent school and if I had to do it again, I would again choose UCLA. Good luck!"
