"They say their teacher education program is one of the best around. Looking back at my time here, I really have a hard time believing that. There was only one class required for classroom management and that was taught by a professor who believed that if we kept the kids busy, then they will have no time to misbehave. She did not teach us any other type of ways to manage behavior besides that. I did not feel prepared whatsoever by the time I got to the teaching internship. I really did not enjoy the methods classes either and felt they did not prepare me to teach like they are supposed to. I thought methods classes were a way to learn how to teach a certain subject but all I got from them is how to write lesson plans. Every professor likes the lesson plans done in a different very specific way in every class that I took. In my experience, my time here really was not about learning, it was about appeasing the professors and doing work in the specific way that they required. The school itself is okay. It is on the cheaper side so that is a plus. I can't speak for other majors but the education majors here seemed to be older and have kids so if you're just out of high school and coming in to be an education major, you might have trouble finding friends who you can relate to. I also feel like this school did not show off their amenities very well like I just found out in my last semester that they offer free gym classes for enrolled students which is pretty nice. Definitely do research and explore the school because I'm sure there is a lot of other free things they don't advertise very well. Overall, I would recommend this school but the teacher education program definitely needs changing to better prepare future teachers."

"I graduated from University of Houston Clear Lake (UHCL) with a joint MHA//MBA degree in 2019. The UHCL MHA/MBA dual degree program delivers excellent value as well as strong ties to the Texas Medical Center (TMC) with their Health Administration program located in the heart of the TMC. UHCL has a strong network of working with local TMC healthcare organizations leading to both excellent internship opportunities as well as a robust UHCL alumni network. UHCL also offers in person, online, and hybrid course options for working professionals allowing you to save time and obtain your degree on your own terms. I can't recommend UHCL highly enough, especially their MHA/MBA program! Thanks for reading!"

"My school was nothing less than amazing! Though I went to community college first, I graduated from University of Houston - Clear Lake, and I couldn't be more proud to say that. Everyone, from administrators to professors, were the most helpful people I have ever met. If I had a chance to choose any school to spend my entire academic career at, it would be this school. I met some of my best friends here, and worked with the best professors. I couldn't recommend this school highly enough!"

"The education and assistance I received at The University of Houston-Clear Lake was nothing short of stellar! My first interactions were with the Office of Admissions; I can recall meeting with the to discuss entrance requirements and their taking the time to walk me through each and every aspect of the process over the phone and scheduling time to meet with me in person. While attending UHCL, I was not only working full-time but also an expectant mother, therefore taking classes at night as I worked and had doctors appointments during the day. I can recall one of my professors staying late most evenings just prior to my giving birth to ensure I had the opportunity to work slightly ahead of the class so I wouldn't get far behind in the event I went into labor. Upon notifying him of my admittance into the hospital, he made arrangements for me to complete assignments at home, submit them via email and made special arrangements for my final exam. I have and will continue to recommend students to UHCL as both the level of education and support from the university are second to none."

"UHCL is a great school with passionate teachers who genuinely care about student learning. Professors are always accessible during office hours and the campus community feels this through the low student-teacher ratio. People of all walks of life can expect to feel accepted and validated by the administration."

"I think the Doctoral program for curriculum and instruction is innovative, and will continue to grow. I have always thought that educators specifically can get a lot more out of a face to face program such as this due to the networking and collaboration amongst like-minded people. The flexibility of this program has allowed me to stay on track and create schedules that fit my needs. I have found that for the most part, the coursework is project-based so if you can kind of look ahead you can set yourself up to have your coursework compliment itself allowing you more time to dig deeper into certain topics if you are interested in doing so. I have found that the specialization courses are typically more tests, but this is not the majority of the coursework. I am happy to share this as a busy mother of a 2 year old, a 4 year old, and a stepson about to enter college, a wife of a shift working husband, and as a science curriculum specialist in grades Pre-K through 12, a job that can be pretty demanding of my time and brain power. I hope that by sharing my perspective of this program that someone in a similar situation can see a way to further their own education. My family is the motivation that keeps me going, and the continued support from the faculty as well as my cohort members gives me perseverance."

"This is a great small campus for mature students. I wish if there were more good options for evening students. The class sizes are crazy small and you get a feel of community even if you are not there much. The student center is decent and the library is huge for such a small campus."

"If you are a lover of wildlife, this is THE place! You get to see a lot of these on a daily basis. University of Houston- Clear Lake is a very peaceful, nature-filled, safe campus. If you are really into social life, you won't get much of that here but if you just want a place where you can "disconnect" and concentrate on school, this is definitely where you should be."

"The counseling degree program at University of Houston-Clear Lake is great. The professors are really nice and generous and will prepare for your profession goals. It is a tenure course that requires you to take classes part-time with students who started at the same time as you."

"PROS Small class size: In my graduate program, class size is usually small with low amount of graduate students which gives the faculty the ability to know students names, monitor the progress of their student and also makes the student more bold enough to ask more questions as compared to a large class. Faculty accessibility: The faculty are very much accessible and treat you as if you're their child giving the student a broad room to learn and to be more open to their personal challenges as well as mentoring them in building them to be professionals in their future career. Their accessibility cuts across student broad visiting hours and quick response to emails from students. On campus jobs/ Volunteer opportunities: Availability of on-campus jobs and volunteer opportunities to sharping students on other aspects as well CONS Most graduate programs are done late at night giving the students fewer opportunities to interact with other students of lower class."

"I am new to the graduate program, but I know several people who got a good education at UHCL and are now working at local colleges. The instructors will take the time to guide you towards successful completion of your goals. This school is aimed at students who are employed full time and are mostly taking night classes to improve their job skills. The teachers are flexible. The only con is that there are sometimes not enough choices of the classes needed in the best time for my schedule. However, I make it work."

"My graduate program in General Psychology is great for students wishing to pursue teaching or higher educational degrees. The professors are very available to their students and offer help in not only content area but career and program direction. The only cons I can think of are the limited number of professors in certain content areas and certain classes only being offered in Spring and Fall. Summer term class availability would be helpful for many courses."
