"Moved here from southern California - the cost of living is GREAT. Also, people in California complain about the Midwest; they probably haven't been here. There's a lot to do: many great restaurants and places to visit, minus the traffic and hassle of getting around. I'm in aerospace engineering, and it has excellent facilities and a lot of lab space. The networking potential is great. I have met and keep meeting many Illinois graduates throughout the country, and all have been willing to network with me, no questions asked. So, this school is great for academics, "what you know", networking "who you know", and quality of life."

"The quality of education is excellent. I am constantly surrounded by my intellectual superiors, who are very willing to share their expertise and insight with me. The only issue I have with the program is that the administrative aspects (including payroll, web tools, key card access system, etc) leave much to be desired."

"Good engineering program. The main disadvantage is that the school is in a small town."

"Computer engineering here lacks faculty and courses. Only one graduate-level computer engineering course is offered per semester due to the lack of faculty. Also, they continue to admit more and more undergrads without increasing the number of graduate students. This means TAships are not filled and the few that are, are overworked. This means most computer engineering undergraduate classes haven't been improved in years due to lack of staff."

"I've only been here 9 months but the faculty/students/facilities are all top notch. The surrounding area isn't the prettiest but you get used to it."

"When considering schools, I am someone who looks for a research program that would be competitive nation-wide, a descent social scene, well known and respected faculty, and good atheletics teams and I find every one these fulfilling at U of I. The faculty and staff are always more than willing to help students, there are several places on and very near campus to eat, shop, and hang out with friends, campus transportation is great, and the sports is also a perk."

"There are too many international especially Asian students in some programs, which I do not think is a very good thing. Some teachers I met from stat department do not do an excellent job in teaching, although they really know a lot. Transportation is rather convenient!"
