  • Degree: Accounting
"Masters of Accounting (MAC) is a 13 month program that was previously removed and brought back for 2019 with an entirely new concept to include accounting/analytics. Classes are in the evening 6-9:30pm about 2-3 times a week. Each class once a week, about 10x total, so you must learn a lot of information at once. There is with minimal homework/exams; there's a heavy focus on group-based projects/presentations/papers. Students are given Becker Unlimited to self-study for the CPA exam online throughout the program. LIKES + Cohort-based that is close-knit + Nice knowledgeable faculty + Ability to work full time and go to school + Becker and study abroad included in tuition + Large city with job opportunities DISLIKES - No choice in electives - No recruiting help for MAC students - CPA Schedule expected is unrealistic - Classes doesn't correlate with CPA study plan (ex: Financial Statement class taken when we're studying for BEC) Honestly, this MAC is more of an MBA with a focus in Accounting. MAC students do take non-accounting classes with MBAs (ex: Excel, Communications) except the name is changed on the transcript from MBA XXX into MAC XXX. Difference is that MAC tuition is less than MBAs, has 4 accounting courses, no elective options, and includes Becker Unlimited. It's a great way to work, go to school, and study for the CPA simultaneously if you have the dedication to focus. Having to juggle all three is why I believe the CPA pass rate is slightly lower than other programs that don't allow the flexibility to work full-time. I think its best for working young professionals needing more credits to reach 150 credits for the CPA, or actually need a Masters. I don't recommend for those who are solely looking to pass the CPA exam that already have 150 hours, as the curriculum wont help you pass. Courses focus more on skills valuable in the workplace, rather than focusing 100% on accounting classes as other MAC programs do. The fact that it includes Becker Unlimited and study abroad in tuition is a great deal. As someone who recently graduated undergrad and now in the MAC program, this was a great way to start my career, rather than waiting until graduation. Plus, I could use my new job to pay tuition. My cohort is very close, like a second family (#southernhospitality), which made it worth it. Overall, I do recommend this program as it has a lot of potential, great overall value."

"Louisville's campus and facilities are beautiful. The buildings are classic, inviting and comfortable. I worked at the Office of Admissions and had the most wonderful time meeting fellow students and staff and created life long friendships and partners. I received the Cardinal Covenant scholarships which gave me the ability to graduate debt free. I also studied abroad and had a great experience with the study abroad office. All in all I had a great experience."

  • Degree: Art History
"I came to the University of Louisville after earning an Associate Degree at a Community College. I felt that I had little direction and that I was at a significant disadvantage because I was entering a new school as a junior. However, I quickly fell in love with the school and the program. The Art History program quickly provided me with a sense of community and purpose, with a diverse student body and faculty. Further, the training that I received at the University of Louisville vastly sharpened my critical thinking and problem solving skills. The curriculum required to earn the degree set me up to succeed in the job market, providing me with a well rounded education on the history of art. The professors were always gracious with their time, ensuring that all of my concerns were heard and always going the extra mile to provide support or recommendations to prospective employers. In addition to the program, the campus was easily accessible by public transportation, which was free with my student ID. Also, the Student Recreation Center is a first-rate training facility with a large weight room, in-door track, and multiple levels of basketball courts. As an urban campus, the University of Louisville still provides plenty of much needed green space, and is steps away from Old Louisville, one of Louisville's most charming neighborhoods. Because of its location, there is a large variety of restaurants and diners around on top of the on-campus dining options. In addition, the Speed Art Museum is right on campus and allows free admission to University of Louisville students."

  • Degree: Physics
"The physics program is great. The counselors are very helpful and the classes are hard without being hopelessly and frustratingly difficult, which can not be said for a lot of programs here. However, the physics program is the best part of my experience at this school. I've had endless difficulties with the professors outside of my major, and the financial aid department single-handledly halted my education for 3 semesters now. That being said, the campus is beautiful, it's very expensive, but it's a good choice if you live in-state and like big schools."

"The University of Louisville provided me with an all-encompassing degree in both the Psychology and Sociology fields. The professors were very knowledgeable and eager to teach the students. One downfall of the University is regarding their advising system. Throughout my undergrad, I was never advised by someone in the Psychology or Sociology departments, therefore my advising was never in line with my undergrad path. I hope that in the time since I've graduated that they have been able to improve upon this area."

"University of Louisville has a newer public health program. All the professors have a wealth of experience as public health professionals and researchers in government, hospital systems, and international development. The class sizes are small and quite interesting for the most part. Professors are engaged and get to know the students. I enjoyed my experience."

  • Degree: Dentistry
"The school overall is satisfactory. Great professors and staff as a whole. Problem lies at the top with administration. Relying upon the patient's you are given for mock board eligibility is stressful. Can't take mock boards unless you have completed a set number of requirements towards graduation. Can't take clinic boards until you've passed all sections of mock boards. Can't be a dentist until you have all you've completed clinic boards. Stressful, but welcome to dental school. As a class we feel like distoangulated impacted mandibular molars, we are all having a hard time getting extracted from ULSD."

  • Degree: Social Work
"As a native of Louisville, Kentucky, I knew first hand growing up that I wanted to attend the University of Louisville. My school has a prestigious reputation of having nation wide recognized programs that prepare their students for the career paths they choose to go. I am so thankful to be a graduate of the Kent School of Social Work. As a social work student at Kent I have learned multiple clinical social work skills that I will use each day in my future work as a medical social worker. One of the most profound skills I have learned that I use everyday is to the ability to work well with diverse populations. I have the appropriate skills sets to be a culturally competent social worker and I have found that I enjoy serving others that are different than me because they have taught me the value of social justice and what it looks like for everyone . I am thankful that the Kent School as prepared me as a professional and I plan to give back to the program in the future so that future students can too continue their education to becoming a good social worker."

"The Kent School of Social Work at the University of Louisville is overall a great program! The teachers and staff will go beyond what is expected of them to make sure you are not only learning the material but able to apply it into your real life practice. Every teacher I have had has also taken time to promote self care, an essential thing to do during graduate school and your professional career. I would highly recommend the Kent School at UofL for someone who is a driven individual who wants to be in a learning community of respectful teachers and students."

  • Degree: Biomedical Engineering
"The bio-engineering program is a relatively new program at the University of Louisville. They do a good job at preparing students for work in the biomedical field because the professors still do research and work in the field. This program will enable students to work in the biomedical field for research, developing new medical devices (R&D), and prepare students for future career paths into medical and dental school. The courses are challenging, which do further to help students reach their goals for careers. A big plus of the program is that students have to complete 3 semesters of their undergraduate career to graduate. This means that students have to actively seek a job for a semester and work for that company the entire semester (Fall, Spring, & Summer), this does well in preparing students for life after graduation. Another great advantage of this program is that it is in the Speed School of Engineering at UofL, where students can get their masters degree within a year. If anyone is looking to do engineering as a future career, I would definitely recommend looking into attended engineering at the University of Louisville."

"The University of Louisville offers a diverse, fascinating curriculum. Students can major in business, sport fields, education, psychology, communications, foreign language and many more. The average class size meant we were able to connect with our teachers on a more personal level. The teachers at UofL make an effort to learn each student's name and do their best to facilitate success. This networking is essential when it comes to education, whether it be a student's need for further instruction or references. I would recommend this school to students who enjoy a medium to large campus and student body. But the most important statement I want future students to take to heart is that students who attend UofL have a wonderful opportunity to thrive and make the most of their education."

"The University of Louisville has good teachers but poor administrators. I had some really great classes that challenged me to think critically and question everything. Other classes were typical PowerPoint lectures with tests after every four chapters. Overall my experience with my classes was mostly positive. My experience with the administrative side of the school is a whole other story. From the beginning when first accepting my place at UofL I struggled for hours setting up my ULink information and by the time I had gone through orientation most of the housing options were gone. ULink and Blackboard are the bane of my existence. They both crash all the time and often times take forever to load. I always had issues connecting to the wifi on campus, no matter how many tricks I tried. When trying to establish my financial aid my first semester UofL administrators put me through the ringer telling me that my problem was with the Bursar's office and not financial aid, and the Bursar's office would tell me my problem was with financial aid. I had three different advisers during my four years at UofL even though I never changed my major. The reason for my change in advisers was never given so I still don't understand what happened. None of my advisers were particularly helpful. I got some good advice here and there but for the most part when I came in they would say looks like you are on the right track--they didn't really do much advising. Graduation was the ultimate "Um.. where is my money going exactly?" moment. The rehearsal consisted of 1,000 students wondering around not really knowing what was going on, an elderly man yelling at us, and a terrible PowerPoint that came right out of the 90's when people still thought it was a good idea to use multiple fonts and colors per page and have effects on all the text. The PowerPoint didn't even work right! On top of that UofL is too cheap to have a commencement speaker (those were the words from the elderly man running the rehearsal). Commencement was fine overall. The food on campus is not healthy but there are quite a lot of options. My last year at school they changed food service companies any they took away the salad bar--the one healthy option on campus--but they did had a few more restaurants and there are food trucks on campus every day which is pretty cool. The Vill Grill is the only dinning hall on campus and as a freshman who has to eat there every day it gets boring real quick, but as an upper classman you start to really appreciate that you can get some semi healthy options for pretty cheap. McAllisters is a great place to eat on campus if you have an hour to wait in line and get your food. I was apart of Greek Life on campus and it greatly improved my overall experience of UofL. Greek Life opens you up to a lot of opportunities, and if you like to stay busy I would highly recommend joining. Greek Life is very involved on campus. There are events happening all the time. All in all, my academic experience was good (great in some cases with a few of the exceptional teachers I had) and my experience with the social and administrative aspects were fair. I would recommend UofL because it offers the experience of going to school in an urban setting and tuition is fairly inexpensive."
