University of Maryland Global Campus Reviews of Bachelor's in Psychology

If you are looking for an online school, good for you, but let me tell you this is not the one. I was a first-time online college student, and when I enrolled and began working with Finacial aid and my success coach I made it VERY clear that I had no idea about what an online college would have to offer. Clearly they weren't listening. I enrolled in October of 2021 and was accepted. I immediately started working on my financial aid, and getting all the documentation they would need. That is where... Read More the crap show began. I had to resubmit the same documentation to them because it was always something. They can't see it, the date doesn't show clearly, the notarize did their job incorrectly, and it cant be notarized by an online notary. It took close to a month to get those documents together and during that time I was still enrolled in classes because surely everything would fix itself. Oh, I was so wrong. Not only was it not taken care of in time, I missed the unenrollment date (noting that I ASKED if I should just unenroll but they told me not to do it because I may not be able to re-enroll). I took their advice and ended up having to unenroll from the class. I was already $500 (paying for all the notaries and $459 for the class) in the hole and I hadn't even taken a class. Needless to say, I was already fed up and really thought these people were incompetent. However, I already started the process and it would have been more of a headache to switch schools. Fast forward to the spring semester and I am working with my success coach to get enrolled in classes. We sat there and we went through the classes and I am looking to her for guidance on what the best classes to take are. I ended up in PACE, BMGT, WRTG 111, and HRMN. Let me say this now. If you have to take a BMGT class DO NOT do it as your very first class, and DO NOT do it if you have anxiety, are a visual learner, or honestly if you struggle with any mental health. The teacher was grossly uninvolved, for visual learners it was an absolute nightmare because there were NO examples of how he wanted things done so a lot of overthinking went into the work, and there were projects that again didn't have enough explanation of how it was supposed to be done. I WAS OVERWHELMED. Where was my success coach? When you find out let me know. I was absolutely drowning, I wasn't on my proper medication, and I really felt alone in this whole process. When I started my WRTG class I honestly was just doing the bare minimum to stay afloat at this point. It wasn't until that class (and the teacher) that explained to me that there was an accessibility department. Why didn't my success coach mention this? Regardless I jumped on that and in about a week or so I had the proper accommodations I needed. I began to thrive in my classes after that. I knew all I needed was a 2.0 GPA to make sure I would be able to keep getting financial aid. I ended the semester with two B's, an A, and an F (but I had a 2.5 GPA and was proud of it) However I got an email part way through my HRMN class that said I was meeting SAP satisfactory. Come to find out they measure GPA and Credit hours earned. By the end of my classes, I only had 60% percent when they require 67%. Now I spoke to someone in Financial aid and I was told that as long as I passed my HRMN class I would be ok. That was a lie. No matter what I did, I was not making that 67%. Needless to say, my morale was destroyed. I fought my way up from the bottom to try and come out on top just to still be knocked down. 7% was the difference between me being able to receive financial aid to help me continue my classes. That 7% is also the reason I say with the utmost honesty, UMGC is unprofessional, incompetent, uninvolved, and just overall not worth the stress they caused me. I tried to do an SAP appeal and I needed help from the accessibility department, but they disappeared off the face of the earth. I still don't know where my success coach is through all of this, and honestly, I never wanted to go back to school and they just proved to me that it was a pointless attempt to go back. So don't enroll in this school. You will not have the best experience and they are absolutely not worth it.

I began with UMGC in January 2019 and graduated May 2021. This school was a breeze to work with and I am not exaggerating. From enrollment, to signing up for courses, to the graduation dept and even the financial aid dept. Communication is clear and concise. There is no issue getting ahold of any department that you need to speak to and the employees are very knowledgeable and helpful. I had a small issue where I was being charged out of state tuition, I brought it to their attention and completed the necessary steps and my in state tuition was honored. The professors were great but there are always a few that are more challenging to deal with than others and that is anywhere. All in all, I enjoyed my time at UMGC, I learned a lot and was able to work full time and balance my online courses as well without being overly stressed. This is, of course, an online school so focus, time and late nights are to be expected but because I did not have to stress about the school itself and could focus on my courses and home life, I was able to be more productive. I would have gotten my Masters with UMGC however they do not offer the program I am looking for (Social Work - MSW). Such a shame because it would have been amazing to continue my educational journey with them. If you are considering UMGC, Apply NOW!

Every single step of the way has been a disaster. Every psych professor I have had gives zero feedback, no explanations, and refuses help. The financial department charges the wrong amount then threatens to not release grades after they charge the wrong amount, then refuses to take it out of the next semester. They claim they have free tutoring, yep! 4 hours and if you’re lucky, you’ll get a tutor who can’t spell and takes forever, wasting the little time you have. Literally, there is no assistance.... Read More I have attempted to complain to my financial advisor (whose number I have blocked at this point) but she blames me for the problems instead of UMGC taking responsibility for their issues. I suppose I head university of Maryland to a higher standard but this is turning into a horrible experience. For a small fee of $1000 per class, you could also have a horrible experience like me!

I wanted to write an initial review for umgc because of all the issues I have had with them just getting enrolled. First, I had called them more times then I can count and just about everytime they would schedule an appointment for someone to call me back however, not once was I called back-at all not at the scheduled time or an hour after. I had to call them to say we had an appointment but each time they would say "that person is unavailable, how can I help you" anyways it has been really frustrating... Read More getting any kind of answers to my questions yet alone getting something done. I have finally been told that my financial aid is taken care of and that in 2 days this will show on the school site. My initial feeling about this college is that they seem to trip over themselves and nobody knows truly what they are doing. I am going to give this school a try for a semester and I really hope my opinion changes.

There is a lot to say about this institution, so I will keep things as concise as possible. I have had a number of issues with the career / counseling services. It took them 4 months to get my transcripts in, and only after repeated badgering. They didn't get my transcript in months after I was already in their program, I had to guess on the classes I needed based on a vague preliminary report, and even so I couldn't sign up for most classes because my previous credits weren't entered. On the financial side, I was given about 15% leeway on my first semester taken there, in that I had some financial aid left over to pay for living expenses because I was going to school full time. For my second semester, they gave me slightly more, but allocated it over the course of the entire year. In other words, they gave me about 50% of what I needed MINIMUM to pay for the classes I was taking. I wasn't informed until mere weeks before the semester. There are countless other small experiences I have had with their support, and all of them were abysmal. I had to hound them at each turn just to get a response. This institution is unprofessional, unhelpful, and should be avoided at all costs. That being said, if you have thousands of dollars lying around and want a mediocre education combined with unhelpful staff, this is a decent to rid yourself of that money.

I went to a brick and mortar school some years ago before attending UMUC. I really dont understood all the bad reviews! I think these bad reviews are from students who didnt put forth effort in their work. I love the program and surprisingly found the information to be very retainable. I learned so much and love how the program is designed. I had only one instructor who didnt communicate well but even so I did well in that class. I found many students lacked effort and those are probably the ones... Read More who didnt do much studying. This is a challenging school but a good one if you do the work!!!

I find it surprising to see so many negative reviews, UMUC offered me a straight forward program with great professors and very challenging school work. The staff has always been pleasant and helpful, and if you dedicate yourself to study and do well it pays off. The teachers have been amazing, kudos to Professor Francis Klein in Statistics for going above and beyond in assisting student learn in a challenging hybrid (online/person) class. The only thing UMUC should change that may be the reason... Read More for these reviews are the counseling department, most were not very eager to help. However, the LEO interface delivers a nice setup in organization not only for the online classes but also for the student center where one can see the advisement report and plan for the classes that need to get done for the program. I hope UMUC continues to grow and offer adult, full-time working students this great opportunity for higher education.

UMUC was an excellent experience. I transferred there from a brick and mortar school and was initially worried. However, I found that I was more challenged and became a great deal more competent in what I was learning. The instructors are all experts in the field and their knowledge and facilitation was invaluable. The online platform encourages intellectual discourse and helps to practice developing insight into your area of interest. Online schooling requires more self-determination and self-motivation... DO NOT ATTEND!! Avoid at all costs!! Have never been so emotionally drained in my life!! I went back and forth with financial aid to have my documents submitted either online or in person. I drove all the way in person twice to make sure everything was in order and still continued to receive messages saying documents were missing. I was dropped from a class saying I needed to pay for it and then I was told I was not going to be placed back in until I paid out of pocket. I was placed back on it anyhow... Read More without anyone telling me and then my GPA suffered completely. Now that I transferred and had my financial aid properly filled, I received an email from UMUC claiming I will get a refund from financial aid. After receiving the refund only two days later I am told that they made a mistake and need the money back. Who does that??? AVOID AND DO NOT GO IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR GPA AND YOUR POCKET!!

DO NOT ATTEND THIS SCHOOL!!!!! I paid way too much money and now need my transcripts and they will not give them to me!!!! All of the money I have paid and all of the work I have put into this degree and now they are denying me my transcripts until a $50 fee for the master's program (nothing to do with my bachelor's) is paid. I was considering going here for my master's but will definitely not be. My transcripts for my bachelor's should have NOTHING to do with anything dealing with my master's!!!!!... Read More
