University of Maryland University College Reviews - Bachelor's in Business Administration
Overall I liked the program when I first began however since the school went away from textbooks and started with "online videos and journals.. articles etc" the experience went down hill very fast. I think some professors are understanding of people's situations that they have families and jobs however some professors could care less and are very harsh at grading as well as provide very little substance and feedback on assignments. I am happy I am done ... time to get my MBA from a better school now that actually values its students. I guess I still got a degree so there is nothing to complain about but if I had a choice I would have went to a different school.
I've taken classes with a State University (2 years) and an online school (1 year). I can say that UMUC is better than both. The other online school was simply a degree mill that handed out As without even having to study the material. I felt compelled to transfer because I knew employers would eventually understand this and I actually wanted to learn the subjects that I was paying for. UMUC has an alumni filled with veterans that live throughout the US, so having a degree from this school will undoubtedly help you land a job. The alumni, like myself, knows that UMUC makes students earn their grades. UMUC will never be seen as a top-tier school because it is not a traditional style university, however, many of us relied on the this structure for flexibility. The online classes are much more difficult than the physical classes because it requires more time to self-study. Many students that have complained about the difficulty more than likely didn't dedicate enough time towards studying. Personally, I feel great after every semester because I feel equipped with the tools to succeed, which has not always been the case with other schools. Don't let the negative ratings determine your decision to attend this school. Venting rare cases shouldn't affect a schools image. In my opinion, the overall rating should be higher.
If this is your last option, for my military personnel, for a degree program that is covered by TA, then all means go for it. However, please ensure you take time to consider your goals, post-military and post-graduate, to ensure that the degree program you choose is accredited for what you intend to do and will satisfy post-military employment or commissioning requirements. I will say that I enjoyed the online part of this school and I had a great time at graduation, the campus is really nice. I did feel like it was self-study most of the program, you get out what you put in. Some of the professors are adjunct professors and you can kind of tell which ones are which. Some are slow to give feedback on assignments and I had one professor who did not provide any at all. I would be sure to check out ratemyprofessor.com. Good luck!
UMUC provides active duty personnel an extensive variety of courses that may taken online or at satellite locations both stateside and at overseas locations. The university has caring student advisors and professors who are interested in student success while at UMUC. There are also military advisors who assist students navigate through applying for VA Educational benefits, as well as, using military tuition assistance options.
I signed up for several courses with UMUC while stationed in Okinawa. I was in one particular course and the instructor was telling an adult learner a story during the break about how he knew of a math teacher who had a bunch of soldiers in her math class, some of whom were not doing so well academically. The professor remarked, "I told her, just give soldiers a passing grade. I mean, they're in the military, what harm can they do with a bachelors degree?" I found this remark pretty offensive, plus the curriculum was no great shakes, so I transferred out of UMUC. Go to a real school. Go to a school that does not need the word "university" twice and "college" once in its name. UMUC...a step above University of Phoenix.
Worst online school ever. LEO is unorganized and crashes frequently. The financial aid office has to be called numerous times for you to remind them to do their job. Money making school only that's what they care about it ! UMUC. Stay away from this school!!!
I find this school to be very good. Business courses are very good, especially the project management courses. Instructors are pretty good for the most part. The occasional bad one here and there but that is to be expected. Being that I have been to both a traditional brick and mortar school and now online college there is a difference in the education. I enjoyed sitting in a classroom and having an instructor right there to ask questions too, but I also like the convenience of online courses. The hardest part about online courses is making sure that you understand what the professor is asking. However, if you do have issues the instructors are really really good at clarifying it for you. I hope this review gave you some idea of UMUC.
UMUC provided a convenient, high impact learning environment for me. The online courses combined with the compressed schedule aloud me to complete my degree on time. I love this college. I plan on completing my Masters there as well. This college is excellent for busy people. They care about your education.
