I have completed my degree at UMUC and think that this an overall excellent school. When starting here I had completed about 40 credits and the next 80 plus were completed online at UMUC. The Learning Experience Online (LEO) classroom has come a long way since I started 4 years ago. The professors are very good and challenge the students. The only criticism I would have is the financial department. Once set there shouldn't be any problems, but there are many times when contacting them regarding financial aid that I wanted to jump through the phone, but once the issues were resolved I haven't had any problems since.
The beginning of UMUC was a headache only because the Financial Aid department did not communicate with me regarding my aid. It took them awhile to confirm to me that they received my transcript from a community college. I kept getting different information and email when i contacted that department. Somehow, I had an SAP issue and wasn't able to get aid from a class i drop in 2009 way before class started. I kept bothering them until someone lift that SAP issue and I was able to get aid to take classes, which happen in summer versus me taking it in spring. My overall experience with the online classes and professors have been really good. It's fast pace with a high demand of work to be completed but it was convenient for someone like me working and taking care of family full-time. I'm still attending UMUC with only 2 semesters left. I WOULD ADVISE YOU TO STAY ON TOP OF FINANCIAL AID DEPARTMENT BECAUSE THEY TEND TO MAKE CHANGES AND YOU DON'T ALWAYS GET THE EMAILS REGARDING THE CHANGE.
Well, my experience with UMUC was a mixed bag. As far as the classes went, the instructors for the most part ranged from decent to very good. No real complaints with the educational aspect, other than the 8 week class format can be a bit demanding and not leave much time for real life issues. HOWEVER...dealing with the admissions department, counselors, and financial aid departments was an utter and complete nightmare. Academic counselors/advisors don't return emails and will just tell you anything to get you off the phone. If you are not self financing and need any type of financial aid, do yourself a favor and avoid this school. I really hate to say it that way but dealing with any of the support staff was just too frustrating and to resolve any issue always required multiple follow-ups.
SCAM SCAM SCAM!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS HORROR HOUSE!!! I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER FROM THE BEGINNING WHEN THEIR ACCEPTANCE RATE WAS 100%, YET A GRADUATION RATE OF 4%. WHERE DO I START? FINANCIAL AID IS PRETTY MUCH A SCAM. THEY BLINDSIDED ME BY "PROCESSING" MY APPLICATION TILL THE MIDDLE OF SEMESTER JUST FOR ME TO FIND OUT I COULDNT AFFORD THAT SEMESTER. THE CLASSES ARE A COMPLETE JOKE!!!
I see too many concerns about financial aid that have nothing to do with the course work. I finished a Master Degree in Management with a concentration in Supply Chain and Acquisition Management. I found the courses challenging and have never had a problem or question concerning my degree since I finished the program. Online classes at this school are not easy and I suspect that this may be an issue for someone coming from a traditional brick and mortar school Do your research on your program and career prospects and try to find a job with tuition reimbursement to avoid the financial aid hassles
I have a Masters Degree and was curious as to what certificate programs UMUC may have to boost my resume. knowledge, and skill-set. What I found in UMUC was terrible customer service and a low reputation in the eyes of employers. An inquiry into a program pretty much costs you $50.00 and if you do not pay for it, they take you to collections and that affects your credit report. This is so damaging to college students who are trying to better themselves and their education. I started the application to look into what was needed to apply for a certificate program but did not submit. Because I did not submit, I was spammed relentlessly via phone to enroll in the program and when I flatly refused, they threw me a $50.00 application fee/fine. UMUC insisted that I submitted the application but I honestly have no recollection of submitting. In fact, the UMUC rep on the phone said I could just keep the application open until I was ready to enroll. Despite numerous peaceful attempts to request that the $50.00 application fee be dropped because I did not submit nor did I want to attend their program (NOR did I have the money or time at this moment to attend) they still sent me to collections. A starving college student trying to make it in this world and I am just a number/means to collect $50.00. Shameful in my opinion. Go with a University that cares about you as a student and future contributor to society and not a fee-driven scam like UMUC.
This is honestly the worst school Ive ever dealt with. When I first applied here I shouldve known it would be a headache because they lost my undergraduate transcripts. Now Im 2 semesters away from graduating with a Master's Degree and they want me to verify that I have a HS DIPLOMA although I have a COLLEGE BACHELORS DEGREE. This is affecting my financial aid and if they dont process my info in time I wont be able to register for the fall semester smh. This school is a complete joke. The financial aid office doesnt help you and drags their feet about everything. Ive had to call at least 5 times just to get someone to do something about finding my documents. The advisors are the exact same way. Ive even had issues with professors and had one teacher outright tell me that I was going to fail her class (I ended up passing with a B but who tells their student that theyre going to fail at the beginning of the semester!?!?!). If I wasnt so close to graduating I wouldve transferred and never looked back a LONGGGGGGGGGGGGG time ago. Please avoid at all costs.
I attended the University of Maryland University College and graduated in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Management. The school is very affordable and the online and hybrid classes were very helpful in allowing me to complete my degree while serving in the Active Duty Air Force. The school is designed for students who work full time or work odd schedules.
Went to Howard University for undergrad and UMUC for a dual MBA/ MS in Marketing. I chose UMUC because I wanted a quality online college that allowed me to work full time during the day and complete the course work at night on a flexible schedule. UMUC was perfect for me, the course work was challenging, the courses were fast paced and demanding (as to be expected from a MBA program) but I learned a lot. My degree helped me earn an internal promotion and pivot from enterprise sales to a marketing manager position at a fortune 500 company. I would recommend this school to others looking to advance their career. You receive a lot of value for the price of the school.
I'm getting super frustrated. I called this summer about starting full time - on line - in the fall. The person in admissions told me if I took a summer class I would qualify for a "fall term scholarship." So I took that class, paid a few hundred dollars. Now they want me to sign up for my fall classes. I'm asking about this scholarship and nobody knows anything! I've called, been placed on hold, transferred (5 times). Everybody says its somebody elses department. I have received 2 case numbers - still no answers. Is this school legit? Was it just some sales ploy to get me to take a class in the summer?
