"This program is a disappointment for many reasons. The GEP to DNP program does not grant any nursing degree such as a BSN or MSN, only a DNP upon graduation. Instead, a certificate of completion is awarded after the GEP year and a Masters of science after completing DNP year 2. In other words, good luck finding entry level RN jobs without a BSN or ASN, specifically inpatient med-surg positions because it is difficult. With respect to the MS, it does not specify MS of nursing therefore technically it isn’t a nursing degree either. The only nursing degree awarded is the DNP upon graduation. These details matter with respect to being able to transfer to another program. We current students call this “the trap”. Another reason I am truly dissatisfied with this program is the lack of support from the faculty. Quite a few of us have learned throughout the years how unsupportive this school environment is. In terms of education, I agree that we are trained very well but that is the only good thing I have to say unfortunately. You will find out that the faculty will not grant you much flexibility if you ever shall need it but they will expect you to meet all of their expectations irrespective of your circumstances. It is amazing that during a pandemic, when the entire world suffered, we were still expected to meet course expectations which were determined pre-pandemic despite many of us experiencing covid related personal situations and employment hardships at that time. If I would’ve known that I was committing to such an environment I would’ve enrolled elsewhere. Some of us have explored the option of transferring but like I stated before, it was quite difficult to complete given our lack of nursing degrees despite all of the coursework completed."

"My experience thus far with the University of Massachusetts, Worcester has been exceptional. The director of the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program has been wonderful to work with and is one of the main reasons why I am choosing to attend this institution. I also believe the curriculum will allow me to excel in my future career as a hospital medicine nurse practitioner."

"Very well rounded classes, however students are often overworked. Very strong sense of community and collaboration among labs is very common."

"Good education. Excellent value. Supportive environment. Lacks diversity. Horrible administration."

"UMMS is an excellent M.D. program with dedicated basic science faculty members and a plethora of knowledgeable and friendly physician preceptors. UMass is highly regarded for producing well-rounded clinicians and is rapidly becoming a major player in medical and basic science research. I would absolutely recommend it to aspiring physicians from Massachusetts. Worcester is no Boston but it is much more affordable; they don't call it the "Paris of the Millennium" for nothing!"

"The biggest pro of the school is the interdisciplinary workshops the school does with all three inter-school programs (GSN,SOM,GSBS). We do activities throughout the year with students from other schools to learn the alternate medical professions. One con of our school is mostly everyone is from massachusetts, so there isn't much diversity as to where everyone is from."

"In the Health Science Preparatory Program I have experienced great support from the faculaty and staff of the program. The community of the school is great. The program itself isn't that difficult. However, it helps you realize whether you want to go into medicine or not."
