"I am pleased with the education and experience I am acquiring at the University of Memphis. The program allows one to tailor his/her courses and education to meet the individual's needs. Essentially, it is a "build your own degree," which allows you and your advisors to custom build your education as needed."

"I graduated early with magna cum laude from the University of Memphis in 2016 and will attend Columbia University for my masters in the fall of 2017. The University of Memphis helped prepare me for a career in journalism. The professors I had were always willing to go the extra mile to see their students succeed. I worked for the campus newspaper and the advisor recommended me for an internship with the local newspaper. Another professor recommended me for the National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE) conference in Miami and that led to me meeting the CEO of Turner, Eva Longoria, and other influential people. The same professor that wrote me a recommendation for NATPE also wrote me one for Columbia. The University of Memphis also provided me with once in a lifetime opportunities. Through the journalism department, I was able to work as a reporter for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and receive credit. There, I covered sailing and basketball. I interviewed more than 35 Olympians and was able to network with reporters from the Boston Globe. The University of Memphis professors taught me the skills needed to work in the journalism field. If it was not for the TV news writing and production class, I would not have been as prepared for my job with WMC Action News 5. It seems like one thing leads to another at Memphis. The University mentioned an internship with WMC Action News 5 that led to me interning with the sports team, which led to me networking with someone at CBS Sports and getting a job working the March Madness NCAA tournament. If I needed help with an assignment, my professors would set aside time to discuss it with me. The faculty sets students up for success. If students put in the work, great things will happen and amazing opportunities will arise. As far a student life, all I can say is that it is never hard to find something to do on campus. The Student Activities Committee (SAC) plans events throughout the week and each semester there is a huge concert. Artists like Big Sean, T.I., Rae Sremmurd, ILoveMakonnen, Ty Dolla $ign and several others have performed on campus for students. There was even a petting zoo, zip lining and inflatable obstacle course on campus one week. The great thing about SAC is that their events are always free. The cast of Wild N Out and other comedians have also performed on campus. SAC also brought Soledad OBrien, Spike Lee and other influential people to campus to speak. There are sororities and fraternities, and about 250 student organizations for people to join. From volunteering at Le Bonheur Childrens Hospital, working the on-campus vegetable garden, sharing your love for Harry Potter, or showcasing your inner fashionista, there is a student organization for everyone and it is a great way to meet new people. Attending the University of Memphis was the best decision of my life. Because of the University of Memphis, I have helped children smile during a difficult time at Le Bonheur Childrens Hospital, attended the Olympics, interviewed Stephen Curry and other basketball players, and it prepared me to embark on the journey for my masters at the Columbia Journalism School. I am proud to say that I was a Tiger."

"The University of Memphis offers a plethora of classes with excellent professors. The classes were challenging yet extremely helpful for any student preparing for their career of choice. The diversity on campus allowed students of different origin to get to know each other and appreciate different cultural backgrounds as well as obtain an excellent education. Thank you University of Memphis, GO TIGERS!"

"The University of Memphis has the BEST educators and administrators. If you want to attend school in a safe environment with people that care more about your education than the business of college then this is the place for you. The university of Memphis has a lot of major options including health sciences and a law school. They have a wonderful and under-rated athletic program. The facilities on campus are adequate and a lot are being replaced with more modern buildings. They have a wonderful alumni with great expectations for their students. They are willing to go out of their way to see that everyone obtains their goals. They have an on campus daycare and elementary school for adult students. Online students are not treated any different than on campus students and their online learning environment is just as difficult as the on campus programs. The University of Memphis offers several different ways to learn and their administration will make sure that you graduate. If there ever arises a difficult problem that you need help with, they will go out of their way to help you. The Graduation ceremony is held at Fed-Ex forum in Memphis near the famous Beale Street and is offered every semester. (not just in the Spring) The University of Memphis was also featured in a couple of movies. There are several reasons to attend the school and I highly recommend that any student add them to their list."

"The University of Memphis has a great campus. They have lots of classes tomorrow choose from and many different options for finding a major. The flexibility of finding classes at multiple campuses and online class opportunities make this a great place for the unconventional student (I.e. Working full time and attending class part/full time)."

"The University of Memphis is my home. It was my foundation for 4 years by building character, independence, and integrity. My professors and advisers are the reason I have been so successful in my life. I came from a household where none of my 3 siblings graduated high school or went to college. I was able to escape the negative actions they chose to take, by relying on the positive support group I had from my education and network. I worked two jobs and went to school full time while obtaining a a Bachelors in Arts and Sciences within 4 years (no summer courses). I graduated magna cum laude and have been able to represent the University through my undergrad research through the REU-NSF program. Though the courses were challenging, the skills learned have allowed me to pursue my MS in Bioinformatics at Johns Hopkins, working full-time at a career that I love, while raising my beautiful 2-year old. The opportunities are endless. They assisted me with my internship which I now work full-time for and have been at for 4 years. I will forever be thankful for the people who encouraged me to take chances and challenge myself in ways I never knew were possible. Thank you."

"Communication is terrible. Courses are not always relevant or necessary. Tuition is expensive. You have to constantly stay on the faculty and staff to get them to do anything they are supposed to like answer questions or return phone calls."

"I really enjoy being at the University of Memphis. Overall my experience at the graduate school is great, the faculties are helpful, and advise really well. The number of crimes around the campus is something to worry about, but still I like being a part of this University."

"Pro - I received a very well-rounded legal education. Con - The career services department could be more hands on in educating students about internship/clerkship process, i.e., normal due dates for larger firms, how to seek out firms, etc."

"The program needs to better at providing students with the tools for finding employment. Currently, it seems they are taking in money from students, knowing and not caring that their students will not find jobs."

"Pros: Cheap living, guaranteed funding for five years, streamlined procedure for attaining doctorate. Enforces need for knowledge and has well-educated and helpful faculty. Cons: Not a great area, small graduate program, TA/RA pay rate has not increased for ten years, older professors tend to try to complicate degree process. Tons of work and no time for much else, but that's Grad School."

"I did film, specifically, and found the program very small (for grad students; there are several more undergrads and it's geared more toward them). There are "rhetoric" and "health comm" students, who seem to be in their own group, for the most part, within the Comm Dept. Therefore, the film grad student pool is tiny (about 5 people). The film program's forte is a little more toward docs than narrative; and much more Indie than big Hollywood, though, the professors will support any choices you have among these areas. It is a secular, state school, which means other views may/will not necessarily be included in your Comm classes; but the film profs are supportive to individuals, in general, no matter who you are. Overall, they want you to do your best and submit great work. Lighting is a forte. Equipment, including cameras, is avail for specific use (about 1-3 day checkout). The film program is strictly in-person, not online."
