"Do not choose this school. Professors give you grades months after you complete the class. They shut down their community counseling center and the department is in complete disarray. I promise you, this ain't it. Spend 165,000 somewhere else and get the quality education you deserve."

"The University of Miami is a small community in a major city. It of course offers the sunshine of Florida and opportunity of several community activities and organizations to use ones newly acquired skills. The physical therapy program strongly encouraged integrity and life-long learning."

"Speaking specifically about my department... I would say that the academics were subpar and not worth the money that you pay for tuition. Two of my professors were good researchers but poor teachers. NO engaging discussions. I wouldn't even call it a lectures. Not sure what my professors were doing but often times I sat in class wondering if the President of the University was aware of the low quality of education and teaching in my class. I would not recommend this university and it would be a poor choice for International students. It's outrageous how international students are not provided a lot support within the community. My department had difficulties understanding the procedures for I20 which ended up causing me a lot of grief. Don't expect a lot of support from the school if you are experiencing difficulties adjusting to the area. You're not going to get it. The school will take your money and then will have nothing to do with you once you've paid your tuition. In terms of the community: Unsafe. High car accident fatalities. When you drive along the US 1 to school, you will see the many flowers/ or wreaths planted along the roadway in memory of people who have died in car accidents. Expect to at least get into one car accident or two a year. I was in two car accidents. The first accident was on campus by a person texting and driving. Expect at least one murder in the area. And I say 'at least.' An international student who lived in the apartments very close to the university was robbed and stabbed to death in his home. Miami is unsafe period. Do not trust their off-campus housing website. I had the unfortunate experience of renting from a landlord who posted a listing on the UM website. This person ended up being a drug user and scam artist. Yes, I lost some of my rental deposit when I had to move and after I found out she was a scammer and a thief. UM does not take any responsibility or filter who or what posts housing listing on their website. So again, unsafe. In terms of the community... If you are not bilingual or speak Spanish... Good luck. Moved to Miami and found it difficult to even go into stores. Sometimes store associates were not able to help me when I needed assistance because often times I was told in English that they didn't speak English. Same thing with uber. Many times had to take an Uber to school or out in the community and sometimes only got Spanish Speaking drivers. I will say that the campus is beautiful but not worth the headache of attending the university. There are so many better universities that you can attend and it's not the University of Miami."

"I loved the University of Miami because not only is the campus absolutely gorgeous, but as a student you are constantly surrounded by other like- minded intelligent individuals. The professors are typically top notch as well! As a low-income student, it may feel like you don't fit in at times or like you can't afford the luxuries that other students can afford. The adversity makes the experience so much more humbling and it pushes you to be the best you can be in life. The night life in Miami is wonderful and I really think that I had a very unique college experience because of it."

"I am currently working on my doctoral degree at UNT. I am a 1990 undergraduate alumnus from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. My years under the Psychology and Sociology department (double major) allowed me for many years to work in various professions. The foundation UM gave me allowed me to help individuals with drugs and alcohol as well as family violence. That same foundation allowed me to transfer to work for companies in human resource affiliations, but more importantly, with co-workers in general. In my clinical setting during my thirties, it allowed me to support patients holistically. Currently, as a teacher, my UM foundation is integrated into every single facet of the educational system. I am most grateful for the building blocks the University of Miami provided and hope you will consider their programs."

"The University of Miami is a renowned institution and perfect for the growth and development of undergraduate students. This institution was where I discovered my true purpose with the help of the amazing and supportive faculty and staff. Through my leadership experiences there, I was able to step out of my comfort zone and challenge myself to be better."

"The University of Miami offers a lot of interesting classes and my two programs - International Studies and Geography (these are seperate departments; I double-majored) - provided me with incredibly talented and experienced professors and like-minded peers who shared a lot of my interests and who I learned with and learned from. The campus itself is lovely and there were plenty (PLENTY!) of activities happening all the time. However, there are some groups that were obviously more party-minded. Nevertheless, I was still able to meet plenty of individuals with whom I could share fascinating conversations, study together, and learn from. The campus is not in Miami; it is in Coral Gables. It's walking distance to the metrorail which can take you to various parts of Miami. In general, the University of Miami is a tremendous schoool but as with any experience, you get what you put in, so be sure to take advantage of all the great resources and learning opportuntities that are offered."

"School of Communications MFA degree program in Motion Pictures does not live up to its claims. If you are looking for a cinematography track youre out of luck. Production classes are like minor reviews and then youre out on your own to learn. The department boasts a well rounded opportunity to learn all aspects of film making. This claim falls short. Professors are not well rounded in worldly career pursuits but rather sit comfortably in their tenure and it shows. The department focuses more on script writing than actual production. Equipment for film making is good although it lacks proper maintenance and a lot of it needs repair. Too expensive of a school for what they offer. Look elsewhere!"

"The first thing you may notice is the beautiful campus with plenty of outdoor lounge space and several brand new buildings. The student body is diverse and the professors are accessible (all have office hours every week.) If you care strongly about your academics but also want to enjoy college and have fun new experiences, this is a great college for you. Although as a private university tuition is high, a high portion of students receive either scholarships, financial aid, or both. Most of the money used to run the school comes from alumni or other donations. The dorms on campus are pretty standard, but you're likely to spend most of your time elsewhere. There is a lot to do both on and off campus. Campus feels safe and like home. Going to football games is huge for many students. A lot of people are involved in greek life, but plenty of people aren't - it isn't a big deal. There are lots of opportunities to get involved in research or at the medical campus. (Pre-med is very popular.) There are a few big lecture hall classes (things like general biology/chemistry) but most classes are small (40 or less), and a lot are 20 or less. There are a wide variety of majors to chose from and some really great professors."

"The University of Miami is a nice school with a beautiful campus, warm weather and excellent academics. UM is a beautiful school with a lively student body that is both diverse and engaged in the community. There are many organizations to join and so many events where one can explore and have fun. Personally, as a college freshman i thought it would be hard to meet people and get involved at a new school. This was not the case the student body and professors made its easy for me to get acclimated to the environment. Attending The University of Miami was the best decision of my young life. Enrolling in The university of Miami is something i highly recommend for students looking for a small town atmosphere, within a big and vibrant city"

"The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (UMMSM) is a great institution. I chose to attend this school because of its diverse patient population. Being able to care for people from all over the world allowed me to see uncommon disease states and also greatly improved my cultural competence. The institution also caters to underserved populations, which is extremely important for overall community health. The curriculum was extremely rigorous, with many opportunities for group study and mentorship from medical students in more senior classes. Outside of class, the Miami area offered plenty of opportunities for relaxation and extracurricular activities. I would highly recommend this institution to anyone wanting to pursue a career in medicine."

"My experience at the University of Miami was enriching both inside and outside of the classroom. As a medium-sized school, I felt the environment was small enough for me to build meaningful relationships with faculty and administrators but also large enough that I met new people in my class each of my four years. I was heavily involved in leadership and service programming, which allowed me to develop myself, as well as create that opportunity for those younger than me. I highly recommend UM, knowing that on our diverse campus there is an opportunity for any student to find their niche if they choose to seek one."

"The school's main draw is an extensive networking program. The South Florida area is full of well known professionals who are intertwined with UM in some form or manner. The campus is as diverse as any in the world. The beach is around the block so you can't go wrong with the weather. The engineering and music/arts programs are phenomenal, and the sports programs are excellent and historically well-known. The professors here are very welcoming and most are great teachers as well. The campus diversity is diverse in the sense that you'll definitely see one of everything, but don't expect a pack of diverse groups at once, people still stay in cliques. The price of the school is constantly rising despite lack of increasing scholarships, so that's a major drawback. The funding goes to development of new buildings and business affiliates instead of scholarship funds, which is odd. Great school, great location."

"The University of Miami is a great school to study Broadcast Journalism. Compared to others universities, UM offers the students hands-on learning experience in their television station, UMTV and awesome networking opportunities. I was the Executive Producer for UniMiami, UMTVs Spanish news show and all the experience I acquired there prepared me for life after college and to work on the television industry. I can assure you that without this experience I would not had been able to do a great job on my career after graduation."

"University of Miami's Biology Ph.D program is an excellent program. The department is wide rounded and very friendly. Almost any of the professors are willing to help you, regardless of whether or not they are on your committee. The coursework is integrative and there's are a lot of different options (even though sometimes you have go outside of the department. Both the department chair and graduate director are committed to helping out the graduate students and making the program better. Also, you are given five years of support through TAships."
