"The career services help is nonexistent, especially if you're applying for outside grants in further education. Not sure why there's a specific full-time position dedicated to reminding students of deadlines (and doing nothing else) but it seems like a cushy gig for a glorified calendar app. Wish she could've helped me land one of those! Hats off to UMKC for wasting office space on that department."

  • Degree: Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatric-Mental Health)
"I went to University of Missouri Kansas City as my first choice for the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner program. I completed both my masters and doctoral degree from their programs. Dr. Ellington is excellent and is phenomenally invested in this program and making it a solid experience. I felt like compared to many of my colleagues I received a much more comprehensive education in terms of didactic including not a narrow focus to psychiatry but also elements of family medicine and other disciplines that expanded my practice and confidence. I really feel that having a site that requires you to be on site for things such as grand Rounds and practicum testing is essential versus an online only university which I would not recommend at all. The only thing that I wish was available when I went was the opportunity to do both the PMHNP and the DNP at the same time because they had the masters program and then a separate enrollment for my doctorate. I do feel like I was more than adequately prepared for boards, and also that my doctorate prepared me for leadership as I am running a multi site mental health organization and that the courses I took helped to prepare me for leadership not just clinical practice. I would recommend UMKC to anyone."

  • Degree: Creative Writing
"The creative writing program at UMKC is heavily emphasized on literary works and more academic writing (i.e. short stories and poetry). I wrote commercial fiction novels. Sometimes this created tension in a class because I could only submit partial manuscripts and most critiques I received from other students came with the caveat that "since this is only part of a bigger whole, I can't speak to the whole novel." The department also frowns upon genre fiction."

"It's a commuter school so it's hard to make lasting friendships in grad school but the MBA program is well-rounded and offers a very diverse student body so the classes mirror real-life situations well."

"Don't go to this school. It will put you over a hundred thousand dollars in debt, and you will /still/ have to pay for your own study materials and for the final test that will get you your provisional license. Do your research and go to a school that pays for that for you."

"The University of Missouri-Kansas City does not fit a high school student's perception of a traditional college. There is not a college town dedicated to creating an atmosphere for students to enjoy. Rather, it is located near the heart of Kansas City. For this reason, I highly recommend that incoming students go there for it's resources and networking opportunities. The faculty at the school are very cooperative and will do there best to help you with your career. You should go there if you really want to get ahead in life because it's the college for people "going places"."

"The University of Missouri- Kansas City sacrifices none of the qualities of education that you would expect from an institution in its price range. Set in a vibrant city, UMKC allows all of its students to experience both an on-campus and independent life. The student association works closely with the faculty of the university to bring a diverse range of extracurricular activities to the student body, ranging from interest clubs to volunteer opportunities. This passion for student success, and more importantly, willingness to listen to the needs and concerns of students awards UMKC with a priceless education at an affordable price tag."

"UMKC offers students education with bright faculty. Unfortunately, the conservatory is in a stage of transition to a new campus and experiencing financial difficulties which has not been without effects on faculty/student morale and quality of facilities. All-in-all, I feel that I am moving on well trained."

"University of Missouri is a great college. They offer variety of programs for students and they really care about their students. Most of the classes are small and the teachers are very helpful and wants students to succeed. If there is something that students are having trouble with, they can get help from tutors and they also have resources were you an go and get help. If you are a chemistry major, you can participate in undergraduate research. There are a lot of classes that are offered online which is also a great way to learn and do the work on your own time. They have great advisors that are ready to help students. If you live close to the college, you can stay home or they have great campus . I would definitely recommend UMKC to anyone looking for a great education with a low tuition cost."
