UNK is an excellent school for the biological and physical sciences. My experience there was excellent, with small class sizes at the upper level classes, good instructor availability, and helpful advisors. Since my academic time spent on campus, I know major renovations have been made to most of the science buildings, which minimize my only complaint: old facilities. There are a really good selection of classes, the teachers are genuinely invested in their students, and research is supported and nurtured. I also think that the town surroundings of Kearney helped my experience tremendously. It is a small town, a safe campus, and security is good. Parking is reasonable and doesnt require a second mortgage to obtain. Additionally, as a biology major, you cannot ask for more than to be located in such a unique ecological location: the Platte river with the Sandhills Crane sanctuary, native parties, and Nebraska Sandhills are all right there.
The University of Nebraska at Kearney has been an amazing adventure for me to further my academic learning. I have gained so much from my fellow classmates and professors of the communication disorder department. The professors at the University of Nebraska at Kearney work diligently to provide an education that accommodates to all students strengths while still challenging them. The majority of our classes are blended witch means that academic work is done both in class with the professor and online by yourself. In my opinion, this makes it easier to balance both school and work schedules. The professors at the University of Nebraska at Kearney also make sure to prepare the undergraduate students for not only graduate programs but for future endeavors. With that being said, we are required to have so many observation hours and participate in many projects where we practice testing other classmates on their speech and language with the multiple speech, language, articulation, and comprehension tests provided. As you can see, I am proud to say that I have earned my education at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and hope to further my education by also receiving my master's degree at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
The program is not as advertised. The Online Master's in Biology was advertised to me as a working persons degree program. There is a tremendous amount of focus on "busy work", such as discussions, that are run by students and not the professors. There was very little feedback on these discussions and one is always left wondering if the information posted was accurate since the professors did not weigh in or lead the discussions. There were several times when students posted incorrect information or there were competing ideas with no final word on what was accurate. The program is highly based on research, reading papers, busy work, and offered very little practical knowledge or skills. If you did the "busy work" and participated you could get a B in most classes without actually gaining much knowledge or understanding. The information presented was mostly based on regurgitating that information back for a grade without understanding mechanisms or how to apply that knowledge in a practical way. If you are wanting to go into a practical job and not into academics, choose another program.
I began attending UNK in 2010. During the four years of my undergraduate study, my experience was incomparable. This institution is extremely welcoming. The campus has a clean, fresh feel to it. I felt very comfortable and very much a part of my program and classes at UNK. The education I received at UNK allowed me to land my dream job and it is something I am grateful for every day. I am currently pursuing a Master's degree from UNK and again, the graduate education I am receiving is invaluable. The Kearney community, along with the university is a wonderful thing to be a part of and I get to do it everyday!
The University of Nebraska at Kearney, Social Work program is the best I've seen. It keeps you involved with the community with volunteering and the classes give you a good idea of what your strengths are and what you could possibly wanna do in the future. The professors are very helpful when finding scholarships and just helpful trying to help you figure out the right path for you to go on based on your interest.
UNK is a great college. Coming here, everyone is important and the professors get to know each student. Also, UNK has a great tutoring program open (AND FREE) for everyone. If you take advantage of this and the other services that UNK offers, the college experience here is enhanced.
I am still currently in college and it is my first year here at Kearney. Overall, it's a great school and I like it. It has nice upperclassmen dorms, a good cafeteria, and the classes are great. The professors know you by name and are willing to help. My mistake for the first semester was taking classes that are too hard for me, so my advice is don't be afraid to ask questions about the class so then you can make sure it is in your capability.
I completed my Bachelor's degree from UNK with nothing short of great role models as professors. They were there to help out along the way and assisted with any issues that may have come about. I am currently going back to continue my education. I am working on my Master's degree of Reading PK-12 which is online base through UNK. I have taken many online courses through UNK and I believe that it seems like I am just sitting in the classroom when working on these courses. I would highly recommend UNK for either undergraduate or graduate students who are looking to continue their education! Go Lopers!
UNK has been an excellent school to study Communication Disorders. The professors are super friendly and truly care about students' academic success. I have been privileged to learn from exceptional scholars with incredible real-life experiences. I have participated in research and clubs on campus and could not be more thrilled with the overwhelming support from educators and fellow students. I highly recommend this school to anyone who would like to pursue a career in Communication Disorders.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at UNK as I pursue my degree in communication disorders. My experiences here have challenged me and helped me gain confidence in my degree. My professors have always encouraged me to be the best I can be at all times. I look forward to continuing my education as I continue my journey towards becoming a speech-language pathologist.
