University of Phoenix Reviews of Bachelor's in Liberal Studies

My experience at the University was very good; I really enjoyed the learning's, the process and flexibility it afforded me. Clearly, like anything in life, what you put into something is what you get out of it. I approached my degree truly wanting to learn; to not only learn, but to use the degree as a springboard to higher levels of education (e.g., Masters, Doctorate). I went on to earn a doctorate degree at a well known University. All of this was possible because of earning my degree at University of Phoenix. As in life, there is good and bad. As I indicated, I really enjoyed all my classes, and I did receive a good education. However, there are students who shouldn't be attending the University due to their academic level being below what is required at the college level. That said, the mix of students range from stellar to below standard. I realize that the for-profit model is to advance profits, but I would want the University to apply a stricter vetting process for entry (e.g., harder entrance examination and approval process). In summary, despite the perception, and pure lies, the University of Phoenix is regionally accredited by the HLC (same accreditation as major universities), I did receive an accredited degree that was transferable, and sufficient enough for entrance to "normal" colleges. I loved my experience, learned well, and feel proud of what I accomplished over the 5 years I attended, earning my BSIT degree. My ask of the University includes, using a rigorous entrance process, put an effort into changing the perception and inaccuracies that exist, and think about transforming the university to a non-profit college; possibly uniting with University of Arizona.

UoP makes a big deal of its "academic rigor" but that claim is false and misleading. The work requirements for classes are far from rigorous; even compared with its own requirements from several years ago, in terms of both quality and quantity, the standards have slipped. Some instructors are dedicated and very good, but some are indifferent -- an indifference that was matched by that of many of the students. If you want a 'real' college education, don't go here.

University of Phoenix was overall excellent. I began my second go at college at the age of 38. I was very nervous. I hadn't written a paper in years (17 to be exact), but I knew I had to do. I needed to gain knowledge as well as position myself to make more income. The advisors, counselors and professor were excellent. Read More I considered different avenues where I could receive the help I needed to assist me in writing. This was not at all needed. The University of Phoenix offers so much help! They have a 24-hour paper review center! You just submit your paper and it comes back, in good time, with all the suggestions and corrections to make your paper great. This was an awesome tool for me. You also have direct access to grammar and format checks. I feel like I am not doing UOP enough justice. All I can say is everything you need, University of Phoenix has it. I loved this school so much, I am going back for my master's in a week! I am grateful for all the care UOP has given over the past few years and would refer everyone to attend.

I am only about a year into my program, but I have nothing negative to say about UoP. I have wasted so much time and money going back to school only to drop my classes, usually due to my hectic work schedule. Honestly, if you work hard and utilize all of the resources that UoP provides, there is no way to fail. They provide so much support, while still holding you accountable to do the work. You're not "buying" a degree. My instructors are very attentive and answer all questions thoroughly and politely.... I have not yet experienced how quickly my degree will get me a job, but so far I think it's worth it.

Wow! I have read so many bad reviews about U of P. Why? I am a working mother of two and the classes have been from easy to very difficult for me. English is my second language and my vocabulary has improved about 80% since the beginning of my courses. I obtained my AA in elementary education and my BA in English. My student advisors have been great and cheerful from the get go. There are some instructors that I can say were not paying to much attention but that happens in every school. Over all... There are some people who will never be okay with their careers whatever they study or whatever school they attend.
