"I am a current student at oshkosh and unfortunately I would not recommend this institution to anyone. Unfortunately some instructors don’t actually teach anything, you pretty much have to teach yourself, which is frustrating when you pay for tuition. The academic staff is not helpful for new students (students that have no experience in anything college, signing up for classes, tuition, your education path in your major). I have to apply for graduate school I had asked an advisor when I should do so because that’s the kind of thing they are supposed to know and help students with, and they answered “I don’t know”. This advisor had no compassion or seemed to even care that I had questions and concerns about my education path. I have also been struggling with a class, I even got a tutor, I attend every class and when I told the advisor about my struggles they basically said “maybe you should try harder”. So no, I would not want anyone I know to go to this institution because honestly it’s a waste of money. College is supposed to be a fun, new exciting time and unfortunately you won’t get that here at UW Oshkosh."

"A week before summer semester I got a job offer and attempted to withdraw, however they have a policy where you cannot fully withdraw without speaking to someone. I left several voicemail and sent emails to several different offices and only my advisor wrote me back. I was recently hit with the 'outstanding' tuition from the semester I never attended. Their reasoning was literally that it was my fault I wasn't persistent enough after they failed to do their part on so many levels. Between this and two of my teachers being rude, barely qualified and constantly working against you; I am convinced this institution has policies in place to actively detract progress and create difficulties for students trying to exit their money machine. I would never, ever recommend this institution when there are so many other fine options in the UW system that work with and for the students to they host, rather than punish them for succeeding and trying to squeeze out every dime."

"Money hungry and try to get money out of students any way they can. The staff in financial aid and student accounts are clueless, and will route you to 7 different people before you receive any answers. It took 4 weeks before any staff could give me any answers that were helpful. They are also incredibly rude to students just trying to get by. There are so many other schools in Wisconsin that will provide a better education. Do not go here."

"I earned the MBA to spend the remainder of my Vietnam GI Bill money. With exception of one or two professors I got along well with the faculty. I was an hippie/veteran, and sometimes had an opposing point of view. I co-operated and graduated. My advisor/mentor did a great job with me, literally shepherding me through the core classes. The campus VA representative saved my butt more than once. It should be obvious after almost fifty years, all of the faculty with whom I had contact are dead or retired. On the whole, the UW-Oshkosh experience was good for me, an d I would recommend the program to anybody who asks."

"Attending the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh was an amazing experience. As one of the few universities that has a medical technology/ clinical laboratory program, I was fortunate enough to be accepted to an internship and I was able to accept a job three months before graduation. Everyone in the program strives to help you achieve your educational and careers goals."

"The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh is a diamond in the rough. Admittedly, I am of course incredibly biased, but I speak the truth, my truth when it comes to choosing UWO for my undergraduate career. When I was a senior in high school, I wanted nothing to do with UWO. I wanted to get as far away from my little home town as possible and ended up picking a different university for my first year of college. Within a few months, I realized it was not my home. The next Fall, I found myself at the very place I never thought I would be- UW Oshkosh. UWO is a place of exploration if you so choose it. If you want to be involved, you can be involved. If you desire to have a quiet, academic focused collegiate career, you will be supported. If you desire to become a Community Advisor (CA), play on an intramural team, work out five days a week, get a 4.0, play in the UWO Band, Study Abroad, hold an internship, be the president of two organizations, and go home on the weekends- UWO will support you. UWO changed my life. The University did not hold my hand but instead guided me to discover my best self. I know that every experience is different, and I truly had a countless rough day, heartbreaking moments, and times where I wanted to leave, but being at UWO was the best decision I ever made."

"I attended UW-O because they had a really strong English department and I was not disappointed. The professors I encountered in my program were extremely helpful and worked very hard to create unique learning experiences. The classes I took were diverse, rigous, and one of a kind."

"The faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh are nothing short of excellent. With professors coming with various backgrounds, one gets the full spectrum of growth in the arts here. Along with knowledge, there is a profound caring that is evident in the professors dealing with students, I am glad to have been enriched by this institution."

"I earned my undergraduate degree from the college of business at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (UWO). What I loved about the program was the fact that it is hands-on from the very beginning. Many local companies have strong ties with UWO and are connected with students early on. The faculty and staff at UWO is also amazing. They are extremely helpful and supportive. They help students in any way they can and help students achieve their goal of graduation."

  • Degree: Human Services
"I completed the Human Services Leadership program through UW-Oshkosh, which was 100% online. I found this program to be very rewarding and insightful because I was able to get the college education, without having to worry about paying to live on campus or find an apartment each year. I was able to stay home and work my school schedule around my work schedule, whereas if I had campus courses, I would have had to adjust my work schedule around my class schedule. The online program also allowed me to work alongside others who were working their way through school, so they understood what I was going through. These students I worked with came from all over and we were able to have discussions and get a variety of perspectives. The professors were very accommodating, helpful and just as attentive to us as they would have been if we were in person. Each professor wanted to get to know each student as an individual, acknowledged and respected our other outside commitments and roles."

"I loved my time spent at UW Oshkosh. I felt well prepared for interviews and for beginning my career as a future educator. They provided small class sizes so I could build relationships with my professors. There were many opportunities to get in the classroom and have hands on experience. I felt prepared so I wasn't overwhelmed my first year teaching. They had great advisors to help you create resumes and practice interviews."

"UW Oshkosh makes all of their students feel as if they belong on campus. When you enter campus and classrooms, you are welcomed with open arms. Professors love learning and getting to know their students. You are not just a number in a lecture pit. You get to know your professors on a personal basis and that is a great characteristic. It's the perfect size school. Not too small where everyone knows everyone, but not to big, so professors still can connect with you."

"I enjoyed my experience at UW-O graduate school. I liked that there was less than 10 people in my program, it really allowed us to bond with each other and get one on one attention with the professors. It was also great that they were able to provide each student with assistantships to assist in paying the cost of tuition."

"University of Wisconsin Oshkosh is an excellent university. You feel that you are not alone and that you can fine one who can help you if you ask your help. UW-Oshkosh taught me to balance my academic and personal lives. UW-Oshkosh also provided me with the opportunity to do scientific research in biotechnology and biochemistry which opened the doors for me for many graduate schools. With that, I am currently pursing my PhD. using the skills that I learned in UW-Oshkosh."

"There are only two things I regret about going to college: First, I regret not looking into/taking opportunities to pay for college with something other than student loans and also not working to pay for school while I was in college. If I had put effort into finding grants and scholarships before/during my time at college I think graduating would have been a lot less stressful and scary. I also would have chosen my living arrangements differently and gotten a better part time job, and also spent less money on frivolous things. Second, I regret not applying myself enough in class. I skated through high school easily and I think I expected to do the same in college. The problem was I couldn't and didn't know how to study effectively since I didn't have any practice. I know my not-so-stellar grades led to some missed opportunities while I was in college and probably a few after college as well. One piece of advice: don't worry about making college the best years of your life. The best years of your life means something different for everyone and for some hanging out with friends, partying, living on pennies, etc. isn't a good time. The best years of your life might be your late 20s working at a job you love and figuring out what it means to be an adult. Or it might be the years spent raising a family. Focus on making college count in lasting ways. Make great friends, take healthy risks, find your bliss, gain experience and, most importantly, learn something."
