"When I was in the process of applying to graduate school, three people that I asked opinions of agreed that Wayne State was the best within this field. As I progress through the program, the faculty show a deep passion for this field and their research. They are always accessible and if they do not have an answer, they will direct you to someone who can help you further. There are always constant programs, workshops and events that cater to the Urban Planning students. The dean, Professor R.B., keeps us posted on job openings, no matter what field. There should be no reason why one cannot find a job after graduation. The downside is the length of classes, 3 hours max, and sometimes the subject. It can be boring at times, especially if one does not have an interest in the subject. The workload can be a burden, but that is what time management is all about. It is not much diversity in terms of minorities and if you are female, but I can see it changing. I feel the planning department sincerely does want the students to succeed."

"The Masters of Social Work program takes a pragmatic approach in its attempt to prepare students for their career in the field. Wayne does an excellent job of preparing students for 'real world' challenges and provides adequate support along the way. Faculty is accessible and takes a genuine interest in each student."

"Wayne State University School of Law is the ideal choice for those individuals looking to practice law in the Detroit area and beyond. Wayne State's law professors are incredibly intelligent and knowledgeable in their field of study. The faculty are devoted to their students and have a compassion for teaching. Wayne State has an exemplary career services office and go to great lengths to promote their students and provide current students and graduates with superior career opportunities. While a stigma of crime and poverty continue to affect the image of Detroit, one visit to Midtown, where Wayne State is located, will immediately change your opinion of this amazing city. Midtown is a vibrant cultural center with new investment and development continually taking place. The Wayne State police as well as the additional police agencies, provides a safe and exciting place to live, learn and play. The student life is terrific, especially if you live on campus or nearby. Building life-long relationships with your fellow classmates is a must and Wayne State is the place to do it. If you are contemplating attending law school in Detroit, Wayne State is the best decision you could make."

"I love how competitive the occupational therapy program has become. It is a growing field and Wayne State does a fine job on selecting the best people to become professionals in that field. The first two semester so far has been quite challenging but these challenges has made me realize the importance of learning every single things about the human body along with learning the basic information of becoming an occupational therapist. The cons about Wayne State is that the tuition is high. If the tuition was lowered, it would be more affordable for students to attend and preventing less student debts from happening. Since, Wayne State is by the downtown area, the cost of living there is expensive, however, I love how there is so much to do in around the area. The atmosphere is great and the there is a lot of diversity, which makes being a Wayne State student absolutely wonderful from having ethnic foods available on campus to celebrating different cultures."

"Detroit is a melting pot of diversity which offers a rich variety of people, history and culture to it's visitors and citizens. As such, Wayne State has a great variety of professors and staff who come from different walks of life and have unique perspectives and teaching styles. Wayne State is also a commuter college for undergraduate students, which is of great help for students like myself who had to work to put themselves through school. Now that I'm a graduate student working to finish my degree, I've continued my education at Wayne State for the above reasons. The downfall of being in more urban environment are some of the safety issues and concerns. Though equipped with an adept and adequate campus police department, Detroit continues to struggle to receive the appropriate funding to staff safety governmental employees as well as make college affordable. The rising costs of education, especially in our recessed Detroit, make it difficult to attend and complete my advanced degree."

"This college program is very knowledgable about education and are very easy to work with. Even though it is not a huge program on campus, the graduate program is very prestige and works great with the State of Michigan to get licensure."

"My program is very competitive. The education we receive is absolutely comprehensive and excellent. Professors are very accessible and always available to help their students. The workload is great but worth it. Transportation to the school can sometimes be difficult for commuters since there is a lack of reliable public transportation. Campus safety is surprisingly great for Detroit. We have extremely active and prevalent campus security. The social life when there is time to have one is diverse and full of surprises. Midtown Detroit is a thriving community of mixed innovation."

"A huge benefit of Wayne State University is due to widely known school. Companies on the west side of the country know Wayne State University is accredited and the proficient with specific programs. The professors are very helpful and easily accessible. The location itself is extremely safe, but the surrounding areas are dangerous. I grew up in Metro Detroit all my life and never had a problem. The city has a bad reputation for violance but once you are around the university, there are many police officers that will walk you to your car. I look forward to new job opportunities because of Wayne State."

"Wayne State university is quite the unique campus. Since the school is located in Mid-town Detroit, I was a little apprehensive. Having lived in Michigan for almost all of my life, I'd never really heard anything good about the city and had endeavored to never spend time there if I could help it. Having nearly completed my first year of graduate school, however, I am forced radically change my view: Wayne State University is a fantastic place to be. There are 2 ways in which Wayne exceeded my expectations: 1. You've never felt so safe in the D Lets face it, Detroit has a bad reputation. No one can deny that. Wayne State tosses this reputation out the window and says "We can do better." There are blue light phones visible from pretty much any place you can stand on campus, and police cruisers patrol the campus vigilantly. I'd go as far to say I almost feel safer on campus at Wayne State than at home in Ann Arbor! 2. Excellent Faculty My experience may be unusual, as I am a graduate student studying philosophy, but my professors have been nothing but exceptional, both in terms of their knowledge of the material and in their capacity to facilitate students' learning. They are all highly accessible and interested in helping YOU succeed. The campus is not without flaws, however: 1. Administration There is some really poor management of affairs at Wayne State. I've had trouble with their financial aid office and am not the only person to have had problems with them. There are also some absurd flaws within the system, such as free rec center access for students but NOT for faculty... meaning that as a graduate teaching assistant I'm not allowed rec center access even though I pay for it as a student. These are all minor issues, but they are issues nonetheless. 2. You're still in Detroit Mid-town isn't really Detroit proper, and driving two blocks in the wrong direction can lead you to some very shady looking areas.Wayne State will never have the college town appeal of other universities, but it does its best to at least do an impression of a college town."

"Some of the pros of my graduate program was that the classes were always fun to be in. Most of the psychology professors are easy to understand and straightforward. The problem is that WSU is in the middle of detroit and not a very safe place to be in because as students, we got crime alerts all the time by email. On my behalf I really enjoyed WSU because it was affordable compared to other universities and had a very diverse environment. I gained a great deal of knowledge that prepared me for the real world."

"The sociology program at Wayne State University has a very diverse faculty that welcomes research interests and active discussions in multiple specialities. I felt very comfortable voicing my opinion, which is the complete opposite of my masters degree experience at another local university"

"The quality education provided on the Graduate Level at Wayne State University is of the highest caliber. Although Wayne State University is recognized as a public university central to many Metropolitan Detroit residents, its institution is highly distinguished around the world as a Quality university. As a young person in high school, I was always intimidated by the university and its reputation of providing highly qualified education to students who were serious about their academic endeavors. I eventually enrolled to WSU and find that its professors were leaders in their fields and not just employees looking for another paycheck. They were committed to the students they taught and took pride in delivering quality education. As I reflect back upon my experience as a Graduate Student at Wayne State, the only cons I can speak of were the lack of customer service skills working in the Registrars' office and Financial Aid. A university with a large student population should have better procedures in place for assisting students with registration and F.A.O. submissions and/or inquiries. To have students waiting for HOURS just to gather information either in person or over the phone is assanine. That type of or lack thereof can persuade a student to just "give up" and not go to school. So Wayne State needs to develop and implement a plan to improve customer service for students entering the university because without us their is no university."

"Out of all the library schools I looked into, Wayne State had the program I wanted and then added another concentration that I really enjoyed while I was attending. All my professors are knowledgeable in their field and incredibly easy to talk to. The work assigned is formulated to give theoretical and real-world experience. I would keep going to WSU if I could."
