Degree: Biology
Graduation Year: 2015

The biology program at JMU was challenging. I definitely had to work hard, and the curriculum gradually increased in difficulty. However, all of the courses I took built off of each other, so the flow of the program was excellent. JMU as an institution is full of students who genuinely love the school, which made the stresses of college manageable. The campus is remarkably beautiful, both during winter and spring semester. Despite JMU not being my first choice when choosing a college, I am pleased with the education I received and it adequately prepared me for graduate school, in which I am currently pursuing my Master's degree at the Medical University of South Carolina.

College is not just about the piece of paper you get after your time there. That piece of paper is extremely important, but there is so much behind it that will shape your life forever. James Madison University is a place where you get an amazing education that builds up to your diploma, but gives you experiences and memories that will mean the world to you 50 years down the line. JMU requires its students to complete a well-rounded general education course load, and the instructors do a great job of meeting students where they are at and fostering meaningful and impactful learning. The resources available at JMU work so well to make sure that all students are supported academically, emotionally, socially, and culturally. JMU is a place where all walks of life can come in a find a place that they can call their new home. JMU cherishes the diversity of its students and fosters a wonderfully inclusive, welcoming and exciting place to be. Even now that I have graduated I still call JMU my home, and I will always bleed purple!

Degree: Communications (Technical)
Graduation Year: 2016

I cannot express enough how the WRTC program has enabled me to excel as I've made my way into the professional world. The largest benefit the program gave me was a broad set of technical and writing skills--I have found myself able to cater how I communicate my skill set to whatever job type I'm going after, whether that be technical writing, editing publications, or even the computer science field. I was able to tailor the program to fit what I was most passionate about, which for me was technical writing and editing in healthcare. JMU is very lucky to have a program like WRTC in a world where technical communication is both necessary and constantly evolving.

Degree: Mathematics
Graduation Year: 2009

A mathematics degree from James Madison University will equip you with problem solving skills to succeed in a variety of work environments. The skills you will gain are not particular specialized, but provide an awesome platform to build day to day professional skills. For example I largely studied applied mathematics and the programming skills come in handy on a daily basis in my job as an enterprise software engineer. The professors and JMU are wonderful.

Degree: Health Sciences
Graduation Year: 2016

JMU was the best four years of my life thus far. The atmosphere that was provided is something that no other school has! Everyone is genuinely friendly, I mean the campus is known for it's signature door holding! The little details also made the school something special too. For example, when you get into your class schedule routine you start to see the same dining services people, baristas, housekeepers, and maintenance workers and it wasn't uncommon for them to start saying hi to you! My favorite barista was moved from ECL to Carrier library Starbucks so I changed my entire schedule just so I could see her. It may sound crazy but everyone at JMU is family. I was out of state and was only homesick for my first week of school. I was 700 miles from my family but had found my own in the Shenandoah Valley. I strongly believe that JMU should be on every high school senior's radar for colleges!
