Capella University Reviews - Healthcare Administration Masters
Review of Healthcare Administration Masters Degrees
The university staff is very prompt, professional, and informative. The university offers programs paced to fit the needs of all students. I finished my degree on the fast track at my own pace. This made it possible for me to complete as many courses as I possibly could for just one flat rate instead of being charged by class. It was very demanding this way and took great time management skills. It was worth it and saved me a great amount of money and time overall to complete the degree. I looked at it as being a temporary sacrifice for long-term success. This was ideal for me and my budget.
Capella University has been a great online college. I was very hesitant at first to enroll in an online only classroom setting; however, everyone from the enrollment advisor, financial aid reps, and academic advisors have been very helpful in guiding me. I only have great things to say to anyone that may be looking to return to school in an online only capacity.
Shortly after getting my BSN, I began contemplating if I should pursue a MSN degree. I knew that I did not want to sit in a classroom anymore so I looked into online programs. During my search I found the Capella website user friendly. I was able to have most of my questions answered from the website. However, once I spoke with an admissions advisor (B. N.) I decided to enroll. He was very encouraging. Also, I liked that I could access a class on a trial basis to determine if Capella was for me.
When I began researching possible Masters levels school, the selection is overwhelming. They all have their selling points. What works for YOU? That's the school you need to be involved in. I am so pleased with Capella. The professors are all awesome and make you think, dig down and really resolve/understand the assignments. I did in fact try one of those schools that you go at your own pace but was totally left out there. Just pay your money and turn your papers in. Then I found Capella. Everyone from my advisor to writing coach to faculty want you to succeed. It's the best decision you'll ever make!
The experience I had while attending the MHA program through Capella University was both challenging and rewarding. The program is designed to build upon your professional experiences and it introduces you to new concepts that will serve you well in today's healthcare environment. I researched a number of online programs and felt that Capella fit both my lifestyle as well as my academic expectations as well. The program is competency based which I have found especially helpful as it helps me as a healthcare leader continually reevaluate my personal and professional growth. I highly recommend exploring their programs and consider taking the plunge! It will be well worth it and you will feel rewarded after all of your hard work. Side note: Don't be fooled by this being online or for profit the courses and the course expectations are just as challenging as a brick and mortar institution.
Financial aid was quick to respond back to my questions and helped me make sure I was accepting the correct amount each semester. The professor's that I had were all there to help you succeed. The program was designed well and taught me many things that I will carry into my new career as a practice manager. Capella is a great school, but requires hard work in the students part.
The school feeds you with a guided path and help along the way to achieving your degree. The only help Capella provides is when they sign you up for loans that you don't even know you're agreeing to, which once you enroll you can't withdraw from class, they will say you can but keep you in the class to keep your financial aid money. When you ask about it they say they withdrew you, but you will have an F on transcript and they will say they had to grade the work at the time you withdrew on the whole course scale so they can get your financial aid money. I would put this online school below university of Phoenix, not only for the poor class and business office experience, but also the professors have no clue what they're doing either and generally send out pre-typed automated emails concerning the class or your questions. Online universities, actually they don't deserve that name, any online 'money-mill' not associated with a 'real' university or school, PLEASE STAY AWAY. Keep your money, credit score, and stress free from the bull, a university like this will entangle you with. Any questions or help on how or why to stay away, please email me.
I am very pleased with Capella. The initial school advisors and my assigned advisor were/ are very helpful. Like all things, you get out of it what you put in to it. I find the course work challenging and my instructors knowledgeable and responsive. The quality of some of the other students work is not graduate level. Perhaps stricter admitting requirements would help. All in all, I have learned a great deal and the leadership concentration is competency based. I would prefer a brick and mortar school for a PhD only to have face to face interaction for real time instruction and attention. For the graduate level, however, I am very pleased. Just for the record, I went to brick and mortar for my a Associates and had a GPA of 3.5. I also went to a brick and mortar University for my Bachelors with a GPA of 3.75. I currently have a 4.0 at Capella and have put in the time and work because I have not had to commute anywhere. Capella is a good school. Your personal experiences need to be aligned with what they are capable of offering.
I went to this school because I already had the experience and I wanted to further my career. I attend classes online because it's very convenient. All I can is if you are already working with your company and you wanted to obtain a master's or doctorate degree to grow or move to another position, Capella may be a great choice. Capella is very easy. It's easy to get an "A" with doing minimal work. If you are fresh out of high school, you may want to think about going to an reputable school and take your classes online. My undergrad courses were at another school and I was in the classrooms. Hope this helps someone. Good Luck!
Capella has been an amazing school. It's professors and curriculum are completely applicable to each areas of learning. I would recommend this university to anyone who is motivated and has good time management skills. No more brick and mortar necessary for me.
