Please. I do not recommend this school to anyone. There are better options out there. The IT support for students is terrible. Took a week to respond back, meanwhile I'm missing assignments. Was "false started" and charged for the semester. I withdrew from this school because I was not treated like a human being. This school is currently being sued for unethical practices. I'm am currently attending Independence University. I began my education in July 2015 and so far it has been going good. If you choose to attend this university beware you will need to focus and study for each and every class. Every month you have to take 2 courses and with each course comes weekly exams and assignments which you will need to turn in by the end of the week. I have already started my Clinical's and so far it has been good, I'm learning a ton and I can't wait to see what else I learn throughout this year. My expected graduation is May 2017 and I am looking forward to getting my degree and finally having a career.
For the sake of your own future do not go to this school. My close relative enrolled and told me that it would be a great option for me. I enlisted and was waiting for my laptop to be sent in. I had no other way of accessing the student site without the laptop, which they were aware of. So...within the first two weeks I was cancelled and was told I would need to reapply for another year. The loan is $75000. Not including any receivable grant or financial aid. The laptop is just a gimic. And the rush for enrollment is unnecessary. Their degree options are limited. Luckily, my loan was cancelled and I don't owe any money to the school and have pursued interest in an overall better deal else where. Meanwhile my relative, who was dropped because he couldn't get help from his instructors, now owes the $75000 in full plus the laptop charge, and will not be able to reapply or pursue education elsewhere, due to financial costs no longer covered. Luckily I owe nothing. I found a more affordable option elsewhere and I just wanted to let anyone interested in this school to go the opposite way. Lol as far away as you can because if you aren't disappointed one way you will be in another. It sucks to know that all of these other people had unfortunate expreriences. It's upsetting to know that they will owe a lifetime of money to a school that never intentionally supported them in the get go. Do yourself a favour. And don't. Just no...
Hello, I am currently attending Independence University. I am actually on my 3rd mod. After reading some reviews on this website, I got frightened. I thought maybe it is a mistake going to this school. So far it's going good. There was a little misunderstandings at first, but as long as i kept on calling and expressing my needs, I would usually get a response and respect. The teachers so far are great. There are live lectures, great reading material, exercises, reviews, assignments, and tests. I receive daily emails keeping me informed and in contact with my academic advisor and notifications. I have a great tablet and my laptop will be coming in soon. I have so far learned medical terminology, medical asepsis, and the anatomy and physiology of the human body. I really enjoy going to school here and I don't seem to understand why there are so many negative comments. I'm determined to receive and associates degree and choose which aspect of the medical field I would like to build a career in.
Do NOT enroll with this University! I understand flexibility the enrollment office sales you on plus the "free" computer. First I attended one full year Nov. 2014-2015 after taking personal leave I have not been able to re-enroll. I have been told I would have to repeat any courses below a B- and financial aid may have changed. This school bleeds over 20,000 in financial aid a year while you will have to do ALL leg work. My preceptor told me he is not a fan of the school and IU students are usually not hired. You will feel intimated during clinical because of how ill prepared you are! Not to mention when I asked if I needed to send laptop back and told no if I'm only out a few months ... Guess what charged 3 weeks later 850.! If you can go anywhere else DO! I am cutting my losses and starting at a ground school. One of the instructors at the ground school went through this same scenario! Run! Run! Run from this program!
I am still attending this school although I am starting to have second thoughts. I started in December 2014 and I had almost completed my first year and got locked out of school because of some mess up with my financial aid on their part. They notified me two days before the weekend that I had to get my tax transcripts and then even if I did it would take a week to process which would be a week after my lock out date. So I end up getting locked out of my last class I have to take for the first year which doesn't make sense since my financial aid from last year covers my first year. The financial aid people don't answer the phone no one really cares their except your academic advisor and if you ask your associate dean for help but they can't do much. I'm still waiting to be enrolled. They can't answer my phone calls or call me back to get my stuff straightened out so I can get back in school but they were sure quick to call me to let me know I hadn't made a payment for November yet. A month in which I didn't get to take my class and got the 8 day notification for not showing up to class and was in danger of being dropped from the class.
I must say, I have had experience with Independence University/Stevens-Henagar since it was called California College back in the 90's. I have had a variety of experiences both good and bad. I actually fired them MANY times, I went through 2 student advisors a month for a while. But, I persevered and they stuck by me the entire time. It was truly like a family for me, dysfunctional at times, but I was comfortable openly complaining about anything that bothered me, even at 3am. I recently completed my BAS degree and was on the Dean's List through the entire program, and I was pretty frantic some of the time. Not easy. I have to say, it is worth it in the end. I am typing this on the very laptop I received through the course. Very pleased.
Don't go here unless you want the runaround about everything the teachers are rude they don't respond and the laptop they give you is junk it always freezes and the mouse acts up I was here a year and got dismissed with a little under a year left to go. The teachers act like they don't want to be there I appealed there decision to drop me from courses and had a set date when the process would be review they didn't bother reviewing it they sent me a message 2 days prior to the hearing saying that they made the decision not to allow me back in school they said my grades were not acceptable I had C,s its kinda of hard to get good grades when the teachers do not want to work with you to help you improve financial aide advisors will try to get you to lie on financial aide I would not recommend going here
Don't go here unless you want the run around about every question you ask. They have a team of people to find you clinical sites who I am convinced are unqualified for their position. The general consensus in my state(including coming from the board) is that IU has a bad rap. Hospitals don't want to sign contracts to take students for free with no preceptor teaching them. Period, and its offensive to ask them to. Some states think that even though IU meets the minimum requirements from coaarc, it isn't enough. For all of the student flooding into the field, but no help with clinical sites or board prep, my state in particular wants to raise the standard above coaarc just so IU can't play in the game anymore. I can't blame them. This is a joke.y grades are excellent, I've learned so much (because I taught myself). The ONE book the school offers you to hold physically is a workbook to go over in clinicals that I've seen made fun of by preceptors because it is so out of date. The only way to get anything done at this school is to talk to the heads, because they actually answer the phone and have the power to do things without passing the buck. I'm tired of defending my degree or my school. And to clarify, yes this school is absolutely nationally accredited. But, if they are not REGIONALLY accredited, so you will not be able to move any credits to a local college later on if it doesn't work out. It's not innovative and exciting anymore, it's a liability. For the amount of tuition I'm paying, and what has been offered to me for my education.... this is nothing short of pure robbery. I'm getting my degree because I am 30k in with no way of transferring out, but I will not be back for bachelors, and would beg anyone else to consider other options.
Let me start off with the positives.I enrolled at IU over the summer. I was so excited finally found a online school that was accredited in Respiratory Therapy. The teacher were hands on if I had questions it was answered right away. Grades was posted in a timely manner. Class work load was a lot but you have to manage time effectively. After going to the school for 2 mods I got a email stating I was going to be dropped from the program as a FALSE START due to financial Aid. It also stated that I will be getting a full refund. I spent over 4 days going back and forth with an advisor who couldn't explain anything and also had me wait over 45 minutes to speak with someone from Financial Aid department. Turns out FA said that it was showing I was enrolled in 2 Universities at once. I contacted the other school I went to 2 years prior to see why it would show that. They had no record nor the department of education. I left several emails and voice mails and so did my previous school and we have yet to hear from anyone from IU. I got all A's while I was attending this school. I also just got a notice stating that I am 30 days late on my in house Student Loan which I have emails showing they will be refunding my money. Last week I received an email from IU I was thinking now I can finally know what went wrong but to my surprise it was email letting me know that they have a class starting Nov 2 and on the Nov22. So did the issue mysteriously fix itself or am I suppose to re-enroll and get dropped again? STILL NO ANSWER!
