Pros-the counseling program is very competitive because it is accredited. The teachers are very knowledgeable and helpful. The staff really want to see us students succeed in this field. The cons as with any graduate school are the limitations of the availability of certain classes per semester as well as the difficulty of finding financial aid other than loans because of being a graduate student.

The counseling professors at ODU are wonderful! They really care about their students and want to help them succeed. Every professor I've had so far is very knowledgeable and brings real world experience.

(Con)The program is a research-based program, so if an individual is interested in pursuing a career other than a professor, challenges will arise in regards to direction from faculty. (Pro) Professors are full of knowledge in regards to research areas (Pro) Great, up-to-date technology and lab equipment

Faculty are knowledgable but not always available. Very focused on theory and research, so if that's what you're interested in (which I am) then this is a good fit.

This graduate program is very versatile; as full time student, who has three jobs, I am able to find classes at the Peninsula campus, which is much closer to my home. The only downside I can think of is the availability of courses has been an issue for me: classes I need to take, are not always available the semester I need to take them.

Old Dominion University has exceptional faculty, facilities and the tuition is fair. I am excited to learn and attend such a wonderful university. The surrounding areas are not that great, however, the university does a wonderful job of maintaining preventive measures and keeping a safe environment. I don't live on campus so the affordability of living section didn't apply to me.

The pros definitely outweigh the cons with the graduate program here at ODU. In just my first semester of grad school, the professors have been so helpful and enthusiastic about the classes. I can tell that they truly believe in education and in helping us become great teachers as well. The coursework really portrays the daily workload of a teacher and our in school observations allows us to get a glimpse of what it’s like to be a teacher in the classroom. The program has confirmed my dream of becoming... Read More
