Absolute garbage experience. I decided to go into business marketing and the first issue I ran into is when I transferred over from a community college, and I sent my transcripts three times before the ODU office managed to get them put into the database so I could actually apply for my classes. I had to harass the offices in order to get anything moving. I have had a PLETHORA of issues at this school (not with the classes themselves, only the faculty). The faculty and staff that I have come across are absolutely terrible at helping get anything done. I'm not requesting anything crazy, just that you do your job. If you want anything to get done, you're going to have to be calling multiple different offices, being redirected multiple times, emailing people many times, before you can get a SIMPLE task complete. I will be transferring to another school after this semester, not because the classes are too difficult, but because I'm finished dealing with these absolute morons.
Old Dominion does nothing to assist Adult Distance Learners. If you have an issue, please prepare to fight them and take your concerns to the top. They act like "just give us your money for your distant learning courseS and don't ask us for any help" I have experience this from my adviser and professors. I WILL NEVER ATTEND THIS SCHOOL AGAIN AFTER GRADUATION. THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY AND FOR YOU TO JUST SHUT AND DO BOTHER THEM. THERE IS NO SUPPORT FOR DISTANT LEARNER EVEN THOUGH THEY ACT LIKE IT IS. IT IS A BIG FAT MONEY CASH COW SCAM FOR THEM.
Attending Old Dominion University was quite the experience. My advisor was awesome - he was always readily available, and took an interest in me as a person, not just another student. I was an online student, so all of my courses were online. The professors are very knowledgeable in their chosen field, and provided me with invaluable feedback to help me grow personally and professionally. While some professors limited the amount of books for classes, or offered online articles so that students would not have to purchase books, others required that students purchase several books that were hardly read. Overall, my experience here was a very positive one, and required an amount of work that made me proud to graduate from this school. Having a Bachelor's Degree can certainly help individuals obtain employment with a better salary. Now that I am in graduate school, I can see just how much this school assisted in preparing me for the demands of such study.
Let me preface that I attended ODU back in 2007. University was fine. Most of the courses were live-streamed. The coursework was suitable and expected for the educational level. The facilities were great, as were the helpful staff. Most of the instructors were fine and well-educated; there was one, n particular, I won't divulge his identity, but he is or was in the business department, was egotistical. He didn't help students with learning material. Overall, it's a fair university to attend but do your research before enrolling.
Old Dominion University was the perfect online school for me. Reasonable tuition and my community college had an agreement with them so the credits transferred without an issue. There is no requirement to have to be on campus at all. Now I am going to continue onto my Masters degree and the education I received there will be very beneficial.
There is a lot going on around campus. There are always events and activities in the area or even on campus. There is a vast sense of community and family. However, in the surrounding area there are some poor and crime filled neighborhoods. ODU does the best they can to upkeep the safety of students but it is still difficult. Most students live off campus, so using the buddy system of catching a ride is the best way to and from classes.
Coming from a rather small, rural high school, the diversity of Old Dominion University proved extremely beneficial in introducing me to the diverse world we live in. After attending Old Dominion University, I feel more confident in my ability to enter the workforce. The university provides an abundance of opportunities to join organizations and get involved in the community, aiding in each student's educational and character development. The only negative aspect of my attendance at Old Dominion has been the increasing amount of violence surrounding campus. However, the on-campus security has taken great strides in implementing security measures to reduce such violence, including SAFE phones throughout the campus that dial directly to campus security. Overall, I am very proud to be a graduate of Old Dominion University and would highly recommend attendance to others.
I had a wonderful learning experience at ODU. All of my professors were great and they took the time to work with all of their students one on one. I took all of my classes online and it felt as if I right there in the classroom. I plan on attending ODU for my Masters Degree in Mental Heath Counseling. I highly recommend ODU
Very good program. Excellent teachers, good preparation for a real life job, very well structured. The university is located in an urban area with great music programs in every surrounding city. Opportunities for part time jobs, many concerts and classical music events in the area.
I applied to Old Dominion University as a transfer student. I found the distance learning option ideal. As an ODU student in the distance learning program, I am able to take classes at both, my local community college and ODU.
The site director provides one on one attention to students, allowing credit transfer evaluation and registration in one place. The professors teaching the distance learners are accessible by phone and email, respondng within twenty-four hours. I am very grateful for all the resources given by ODU staff that have helped me get closer to my lifelong dream. ODU is ideal for working students, older students and those looking to reinvent their lives!
