This institution has definitely fallen from its good reputation. I took online and attended the campus in Montgomery. For starters, my advisor, whomever it happened to be for any given semester may or may not have even been around. After seeing I had a different one for the semester, I came to find out he was out of the country THAT SEMESTER! If you need to reach financial aid, admissions, etc can be a shot in the dark. After having a final grade of a 91 for a class listed on Blackboard, it was recorded on my transcript as a D! I reached out to my professor, admissions by calls, emails, and finally taking time off work to go on campus for 3 hours. Although it's showing that I passed, the grade is still....WRONG!!!! Talking to other students and another professor, this university is a pain!
Terrible! Terrible! Terrible! It's not worth the money I've forked out! The parking is horrible & they ticket you so much for little things! The campus life SUCKS! the location is horrendous! The faculty/staff are only there for the check, not to assist you? Fees on top of fees! I'm pretty sure a "breathing air" fee is in the works. I wouldn't recommend Troy to ANYONE!
Academic advising is a joke. They messed up several of my classes
The administrations is horrible. They mess up paper work or fail to change things or record things which makes it hard on the student (especially when they say you own them money because they have you listed as part time instead of full time student which cuts into grant money). The student adviser I had was horrible. She never did anything for me and when I had a problem, she had a nasty attitude. Financial aid--I think that is a hoax because they were never available when I needed them. The teachers have the classes set on auto pilot so you rarely get any feedback from them. This means they rely on pre-programmed tests and the answer keys were wrong in every one of those classes. It is a major headache getting your grades corrected, and that messes with your GPA. I have had to go to the dept chairs twice and they were no help. They basically take the teachers side even when you have proof that he or she is wrong. It is really sad. It is the Walmart of colleges. Bad management, bad quality... just bad everything.
Where to start... First off.. If you just wan to have a degree for sake of being able to say you have a degree, then by all means, attend this college. Basically if you are a music student and do anything worth while for the School of Music, they will try to keep you around. And if you don't want to stay they will immediately f*ck you in the @$$ every way possible. They are the biggest con artists I have ever met, which saying something since I was born and raised in Chicago. From the Administration to the "Professors", this school is just a bunch of overhyped hicks that shoot their mouth off without ever thinking if they can live up to the hype. Which they can't. The Music Industry Degree Coordinator told me 2 years ago at a convention - You know Andy, you have all this knowledge, talent, and skills, we just need to figure out how to market you". This was 3 years after I graduated. This tells me 2 things: 1. He never thought of how to market me before I graduated; 2. He is too f*cking incompetent for his job. If you want to go to a clown college attend the John M . Long School of Music. This degree will do nothing for you unless you desire to stay in a 20 mile radius of Troy.
The staff is very lax in taking care of things. I stress out more over them not doing their job and getting my paperwork dealt with more than assignments. Several times they have almost cost me my student loan. Some of the teachers have no interaction with the class at all. You are basically on your own. Some teachers who use tests instead of essays, the answer keys are wrong and getting a teacher to correct the grade is almost impossible. You have to complain a lot to a lot of different dept before anyone does anything. I am transferring out because it is just more headache than I have time for or want.
I love being a student at Troy, the experience has been wonderful! As a single mom who also works full-time, a degree would not have been obtainable for me without an online program such as the one I'm taking here at Troy. My only complaint is that they don't offer an all online Accounting Degree. However, I understand that they can't offer everything. Overall I would recommend this school!
I have greatly enjoyed my time at Troy. I have no complaints.
The instructors at Troy are awesome and knowledgeable. This university also caters to the working parent as in myself as makes it makes convenience actually possible
Troy University was great in that it offered me an online option to study Computer Science.
