"Appalachian State was the best choice I made to continue my academic career. The professors in the Department of History are helpful, interested in you as a student and your career, and willing to spend time going over material and answering questions. When I was a student, I was a person and not a number to the faculty and staff. There were a few classes and exams that were easier than others, but if you want to pass a class, most professors required strict attendance, and you had to put in extra effort outside of class to do the readings and be prepared for a suprise pop quiz prior to class. What you put into your education is what you will receive in return. ASU offers a lot to students through community and student programs, athletics, music, Old-Time Appalachian Mountain music and dance, plus the outdoors await you for many adventures. The only complaint I have with ASU, the Office of Financial Aid is screwed up, and myself along with a lot of other students were fooled around for a while and not receiving the aid promised. the office made several claims that either we did not send int he required paperwork, or the paperwork was lost. Several times I had to go to Financial Aid Office with copies of paperwork in my hand that they claim they never received. I value my time and educational experience at ASU, and I came away with great memories of friendships with numerous students and professors that will last a life time. But some winters, it can get cold!"

"Appalachian State offered an outstanding teacher education program. I was prepared for my role in education beyond the classroom. The excellent coursework inspired me to be a leader in my schools. I learned how to teach, not from a text book but from standards. I was also well prepared for differentiation in the classroom. I loved the teachers and the classes at Appalachian and believe that I was better prepared than most of my peers who attended other education programs."

Degree: Social Work
Graduation Year: 2013
"I loved going to Appalachian State! The Social Work department from which I received my undergraduate degree was efficient, approachable, and felt like a family. All of my teachers were genuine and straight forward. I could go to them about anything! My one regret was dropping out of statistics. It is not a required course for the BSW program, but when I was applying to graduate school it was required for many of the schools I was researching. Take statistics and you will have more options for graduate programs!"

"It is a great opportunity to expand your understanding of the world and become more involved as a young member of society. College has certainly educated me on a wide range of academic topics, but it has more importantly educated me on society and prepared me to better it."

"App State is a great school in a beautiful location. I cherish my memories and received an outstanding education. For graduate school I appreciated the emphasis on hands-on, practical experiences tied in with course work. You really couldn't ask for a better college, Go Mountaineers!"

"I loved my time at Appalachian State! The Hospitality and Tourism Management major interested me as I wanted to work at a yacht club. Additionally, it provided me a business degree which I could use to find other employment. Ultimately I did not pursue a career in the service industry."

"My college is ranked as one of the highest schools in my degree area, also known as Elementary Education. The hands on experience that we receive throughout our four years at school is uncommon as well extremely helpful when it comes to preparing us to work in our future field. Since I begin attending Appalachian State, I can honestly say that the teachers, administrators and deans have the uttermost respect for our school. each other and most importantly the students. I honestly couldn't ask for a better college experience. You couldn't ask for a better place to live out your college years, meet extremely down to earth people, and participate in all things Yosef ( mascot) so come on down and express Yosef! Become a mountaineer and experience what college life has to offer in the mountains of Boone North Carolina,"
