"BGSU is generally a good choice for graduate school and has several notable programs in the humanities, higher ed admin/student services, and hard sciences. you're moving to a small, rural town with not much to do...which is great for finishing your thesis or dissertation. Financial aid packages could be more competitive as you have to pay for your own health insurance as well as student fees (if you qualify, general tuition is waived plus you get a small stipend). Opportunities for professional development are available provided that you seek them out. You do need to be very proactive as a BGSU grad student (or at any University). BGSU doesn't have all the services of a large state university but you get a bit more attention as a result. I have no regrets about attending BGSU for grad school."

"Pros: MPA program is highly recognized and competitive. Nice college town. Affordable living. Aligned internships and career preparation. Great diverse student body and faculty. Cons: Transportation and access to big cities limited."

"The program is great in terms of teaching and resources but the environment is not that great for students with different racial/ethnic background"

"This is a great program! The department actively tries to help us with our future and studies! With top names such as Wendy Manning, Susan Brown and Kara Joyner, this program is a very good value. However, the town that BGSU is in might not fit everyone."

"Graduate students get to design their own thesis project, instead of coming into one that is already being done by a professor or PhD student."

"The professors have real world experience that are related to what they teach. They can apply to what they have experienced in the field to the classroom that will prepare the students for life after school. Part of the graduate program will involve a segment of a real world study over summer. The program is highly competitive with funding given only to those of the highest grades, leaving some other students without the opportunity to advance themselves in their field of study"

"The Organization Development Program is highly regarded. There are great alumni, great students, and experienced faculty who have practical experience as well."

"This program depends completely on the advisor you work with. If your advisor is good, you will have an excellent experience, and if they are bad, your experience of grad school will be awful. Overall, the program does well to prepare us for jobs after school."

"I am in a Clinical Psychology PhD program. I love the quality of clinical training here. Supervisors are very talented, patient, inspiring, and actually give constructive criticism. We have a training clinic on site, which is a big plus. My program provides access to quality clinical placements within the community for which I don't have to compete with other universities. I really feel that overall environment is very supportive and I feel like they help me grow as a clinician and a researcher. The cons: their scheduling of classes is a bit odd. Some classes are only offered every couple of years, so by the time they offer it, it may become difficult getting into the class. In another program where I got my MA, I've never experienced difficulties getting into a graduate class. Another con would be location. It's located pretty much in the middle of nowhere, so if you are coming from a big city, it may take a while to get used to it. However, if you have a car, it's not an issue. we are also within a driving distance to much more exciting cities: Ann Arbor, Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, Columbus, Cincinnati. 6 hour drive to Niagara Falls. So if you are determined, you can definitely find exciting things to do. Overall, I love my program. While there are always little things that can be better, having experience in a different graduate program, I really appreciate the quality of training and the environment of this one."

"Overall, good faculty support and strong learning environment. The location is probably the biggest downside, as there's not much going on in this little town!"

"They make it easy to go to classes and to get to places you need, however i feel that the teachers could be better. 99% of my teachers have not actually been in the field of study so they dont really know what they are talking about. Everything is based on statistics and statistics will NOT be helpful when I am on the road in real life situations."

"I feel I earned a quality MSCJ degree from BGSU. The course work varied from incredibly tough and challenging to easier than expected. I perceived the faculty strove to protect the academic integrity of the program. The one chronic issue were the students. Seemed to be a lot of complaining over expectations. If you sign-up for a masters program, IT IS INTENDED TO BE ACADEMICALLY RIGOROUS. Obtaining a graduate degree is not for everybody. It is okay to earn a B. As a practitioner in the criminal justice field, I found the program to be very useful to understanding my career and the factors that influence it. The BGSU MSCJ was very positive for me and when worth the money, time, and emotional investment."

"I attended Bowling Green State University from 2003-2007. I grew up in Toledo, Ohio, so BGSU was the perfect distance from my home. I was far enough away to get the "college experience," but not so far that it would be a day trip to get home for a good meal. :o)I was pleased with the size of the campus (not too big or small). The people and faculty were friendly. I got my BFA in Graphic Design at BGSU and recommend not only the school, but that program as well. BGSU has several career paths that it is known for, and Art/Design is one among Education, Medical, etc. The campus has several wonderful resources as well (i.e. their library, technology centers, art facilities, etc.).Overall I had a fantastic experience at Bowling Green State University."

"I went to BGSU for 2 years before I transferred to focus on another major they didn't offer (very specialized veterinary major). However, I sorely missed BGSU for the great social life, tight-knit community feel and all of the great history that is BGSU. The "town" of BG is a great little town with several fun bar and club options as well as small stores, etc. OFf campus housing is preferred but it was also great to live on-campus one year to make many, life-long friends. I go back to BG whenever I can to party, walk around campus and reminisce. It truly was a great school, not too challenging, as others have said, but a good, solid education without all of the pressure of some other schools all of the time. The academics are great and school spirit are even greater. I had some of the most dedicated, passionate professors while there and I missed that! I wish I could go back... I never would have transferred away to focus on my career... which comes WAAAAy to quickly, I may add. :)"

"It was a great education from a respected University. I am just as proud of my BGSU degree as anyone that attended, either online or on campus. Classes are delivered through a Web-based enterprise portal. That I could acess as needed. It provided me with the flexible schedule I required. The portal also has chat features one-on-one time with faculty and student-to-student contact. I am proud of my accomplishment and met more friends and contacts than I thought possible online. My new degree allows me the opportunity to advance my career beyond my expectations."
