Colorado Technical University - Online

My time at Colorado Technical University was great. I enjoyed the online classroom instruction weekly and the individuals that I have met from various locations throughout this country. My graduation in June 2011 was a real highlight and I really felt great in receiving my Masters of Science Degree (MSM) in Management in Criminal Justice (Although they do not give out this degree anymore). I am now working on a Doctorate in Public Administration in another Online University, but my time at Colorado Tech has not been disappointing at all.

I finally got to a point in my life last February 2017 where I was ready to start and complete a Masters program. I had previously started one then quit because I wasn't focused enough nor following the right path in life. I decided to take the leap one last time and now I am one class out from finishing this program. Even though it is fast paced, it's worth it. Read More helpful and checked in if either you may not post often or are not doing too well in your course. The tuition and financial aid situation was clearly explained and also was simple. I think a lot of those that complain about this school are those that either only started for a FA check or are not motivated enough to be an adult and do the work that it takes to succeed. I would have never thought I would say I am a class away from having my Masters, but I can now! Thank you CTU!!!

All of the negative reviews here are hilarious. They are complaining about how things clearly published in the schools website (without even being logged in) caught them off guard and they didn't know about it. You sign an agreement outlining the tuition costs, it is common knowledge what the add/drop deadlines are, nobody is going to hand-hold you through being an adult. With regard to academic advisors changing, does it really matter? You only ever need to talk to them when starting or ending a... Read More program, or if you are doing something unusual like dropping, un-enrolling, or overloading your schedule. When you get into the higher programs they will remain more consistent. My academic advisor for the masters and doctoral program has remained the same person for 18 months, and now that I am starting the doctors; program we have weekly calls at the same time just to check in. It is as simple as this: You get out of it what you put into it. This isn't the matrix where you can just have it uploaded into you. It isn't free lunch where you shouldn't expect a bill. And instructors will seem arrogant and condescending only if you're being a ridiculous arrogant and condescending child yourself. Grow up. Life is work. Work hard and push yourself to improve your own life. You are paying for access to an instructor and an opportunity to learn from formal content and to prove your abilities, not so someone can be your servant and hand you an A and a promotion at work. Sorry, my entire review so far ended up being a rant about the ridiculous children posting negative reviews because they don't understand academics, responsibilities, or adulthood. Anyway, this school has been fantastic! I have been learning so much and it has truly helped my career. The instructors have been fantastic in my experience, and my favorite activity was leading group projects, especially during the CapSim.

I don't understand why this school have so many negative reviews i had a great experience attend CTU i am currently enrolled in my Bachelor degree program which i will have December 2018 thanks to me putting fast track to use i really love everything about CTU and i have learned so much that is helping me with promotion in my career filed. Long story short I went to CTU and graduated but once I graduated they stuck me with a huge bill which was never advised to me. I had to take a class 3 times because on a conflict with the instructor. I was told by the school that they apologized and "dropped the ball" I have a ton of emails from different staff members which the turn around rate is ridiculous at this school. The Ombudsman department contacted me acting like they were the good guys and they were on the students side but they aren't... Read More they are paid by the school. The school has done this to numerous students if you look at their reviews. I wish I would have looked at their reviews before applying but all I can do now is warn others about this school. Do not waste your time trusting a school that claims to care about the students but just cares about money.

I started Colorado Tech University Online a few months ago. The staff seem pretty good! They are very courteous and helpful. However, my complaint lies within their online educational system. I'd had times where I got the answer correct, but the system said I Was wrong, but the answer it provided was the exact same thing. I've had times where the multiple choice answers didn't have the right answer, but when it gives solution it tells you the right answer. They provide online tutoring for free, using... I read a lot of the negative reviews before I started but one of the best ones was the person who said you have to be very proactive so I followed that advice. I graduated with my cyber-security degree bachelor's in 11 months I took advantage of the Fast Trax and the prior learning and I have maintained a 4.0. I graduate in 5 and 1/2 weeks then I start my masters in cybersecurity of which I plan to do the same thing and start the doctoral advantage after 3 courses. Many people complain that they... Read More don't understand the accounting it's pretty simple $325 a credit and every 3 months $125 technology fee. For all the prior learning assessment narrative that I submitted that I gained course credit for I wasn't charged a dime. And they have already given me credit for $2,000 grant for my Master's for lifelong learning. I will say my student advisor was useless but I managed to after many emails to multiple departments till I drove them crazy LOL found two amazing advisor in the prior learning Department. I did have a problem with my funds because I did a course overload of which was approved but through my whole account into a weird balance but they fixed it quickly. If you need to drop a course and trust me I dropped and added courses every term you just need to know you need to do it within one week of the term starting I believe, after that time they tell you in the documentation that they send you what's the criteria is so you just need to be proactive and smart. Prior to making my decision to attend CTU I had read a lot of negative reviews on consumer affairs and here.. in fact I sent a very strongly worded email to about five or six people and the admissions director called me and we spoke about the negative reviews and I told them that I do understand that out of every person they work with the chances of getting a negative review are much higher than somebody writing a positive review. People who are happy usually don't take the time to write something up people who are pissed off do. So I told him I understood that but I wanted some assurances and then I told him that they need to have a moderator on all these type of sites to address the issues and concerns of the negative reviewers to help those who had a bad experience and they have since done that. My initial estimation of my bachelor's with 60k but I managed to do it with only 15 so don't be helpless don't complain don't expect somebody to hold your hand through it this is a college for adults who have been in the business world and you know how to get stuff done. If you haven't been in the business world and don't know how to be proactive and don't understand that even though you're in college you're not going to get your handheld if you want that you should go to a brick-and-mortar school.

I am just finishing my degree at CTU online and have been very happy with my experience. First of all, their online portal is great. It is very easy to navigate and user friendly! I had looked at other schools previous to my enrollment at CTU and CTU by far had the most impressive online portal. I found the instructors to be helpful, and always answer questions. The classes and course work were challenging, yet the classes always included extra resources in order to help with your studies. I feel that I learned a lot from my classes and I was definitely able to take what I learned and apply it in my current job. I never had a problem with financial aid. I always found the financial aid advisers to be helpful and courteous. I have seen many posts where people criticize the school because they ran out of money or what not, but honestly, that is not the school's fault. I monitored what I took for financial aid, and I made sure that if I felt that I was getting close to my limit that I didn't take a stipend, simple. It's all about being a proactive adult and ensuring that you take control of your education. Finally, I have to say that my Advisers, although I have been through three, have all been wonderful. I am a single mother, who works full time and had a full time course load. If I can do it, you can too! I highly recommend this school! As a side note, my Bachelor's degree has enabled me to advance at my job to a supervisory position (I already work in the CJ field) and I am enrolling in school for my Master's in Psychology (I wish CTU offered that Master's program but unfortunately they don't).

I am a current student at CTU- I graduate on Aug 10th! However, I have already landed a job and start on Monday! The job comes with great benefits, great pay, and advancement opportunities! I am not sure why there are so many negative reviews! I started in Nov 2016 and was supposed to graduate Mar 2018- however, with fast track classes I was able to graduate early and SAVE money on tuition! I believe you get out of life what you put in! I attended CTU and I had to stop for CANCER treatments. My advisor did not tell me I could drop without paying until a few days AFTER the drop date. The school is still pursuing me for 1700+ even after my employer and I sent them my leave of absence, and medical records. My employer who paid for tuition even called and spoke to a supervisor through their contact. I have called numerous times, always told they will send my dispute up and I will hear back. Absolutely nothing.. when I call and follow... Read More up.. its like starting over as if I haven't ever spoken to anyone before. So frustrating! Don't go to this school if you ever plan to be treated fairly!

I am graduating next week. The work is intense. One has to be focused and determined to go through this program at CTU. It is true that 5 weeks are not enough to get to know any of the subjects 100%. I went into this degree with work experience. I had a foundation by the time I started, and it truly expanded my knowledge about this discipline. I graduated a couple months ago (Feb. 2017). and I have not had the negative experiences others say they had. I came in with an associate's degree and attended 3 other colleges prior to finishing up at CTU. Pros: I thought their online format and website/navigation was the best I have ever used. A+. I attended Portland State Online, and trying to navigate their "Blackboard" took me 30+ minutes every time I logged in. CTU definitely has the online experience down. I also paid out-of-pocket, but I'll... Read More expand on that in the "cons". Fats classes: classes are condensed. meaning: 5.5 weeks each class. I personally loved this! I did not want to take 12 weeks worth of classes. This did make for a grind and tons of late nights writing papers. To put in in perspective, when I finished (110 credits) I figure I wrote about 200 research papers. I suppose this could be good or bad, but I learned a lot. I am 41 years old, and had I done this when I was much younger I may not have been as successful. Cons: I thought some of the teaching or lectures were a little lacking. This is truly a "get out of the program what you put into it." It is on you to work hard, and again, me being older was of value for me. As to financing, I paid out of pocket, but boy they do hound you to do the financial aid. There was a little annoyance their, and they clearly have a financial incentive to do so. That said, I had similar issues with State colleges so I don't think this is necessarily a CTU problem- they ALL have financial incentive for these things. Overall, I not only recommended someone else to go there, but am also working on my MBA. The bachelor's has already opened doors that weren't open before. I would attend again, but know it is a grind: usually 4-5 papers over 5 weeks, other assignments too.

Currently, I am working hard in all my classes. I have just found out that my FASFA student loan has been spent and I still have another year to go to finish my degree and now I am out seeking more money to keep paying my tuition so I can graduate. CTU has been helpful in giving me directions on where to find this extra money. They also have 2 of their own grants that I have applied for. My first CTU grant will be determined this month on the 20th and this will give me another 4 classes paid for.... Read More Interesting enough when I first started with CTU back in 2014, I was told that this B.S. degree will be a rehash classes that I will know from my 38 years of prior experience in this industry. CTU has been great when it comes to helping students make their dreams come true from Fast Track were you can just take tests to complete that class and get credits to make you closer to graduation. I must continue to work on the outside, and so I am on a Slow Track that fits my current life. Here lies that I must get more money to complete my degree. Each class I take I continue to get the Pell Grant money onto a Higher One Credit card that helps me during each month while I am still not fully working and making money on my own. All aspects I see here with CTU has been great and all the other students I have met in each class have been open to new ideas and different ways to look at the same subject being studied. Just in my last class it was all about IT and the history and mystery of it all. In the first week, the subject was DATA where I came up with DATA = 0 and 1 or chicken scratches on a piece of wood. This stun most student, but once they finished reading my 5-page paper on DATA, it finally became clear to them on what I was talking about. I hope that what I have said here is also clear since I just started to type out my review without any planning, organization or most anything normal people would do to prepare for such a task as this.
