"Columbia's sociology department is top notch but could use more emphasis on practical methodological work."

"As a first year PhD student at Columbia University, I feel well-supported by both faculty and other graduate students. My program includes the right amount of rigor and professionalism that will enable all students to successfully pursue a career in academia following their completion. While living in New York City may not be as affordable, the attractions and activities are numerous making Columbia perfectly situated. Additionally, Columbia provides ample financial support and is accommodating to individuals with families. Overall Columbia is a high quality institution and truly prepares its graduate students for their careers and beyond. I would readily recommend my program of study at Columbia University to motivated and committed researchers."

"The program and living expenses in the surrounding area are expensive. Otherwise, I love the support that I get from faculty and the school in general. I feel like I will be well equipped for work when I leave the program."
