Degree program has not changed and seemed stale. The instructors were questionable on skill level and did not seem to reflect well for the program. I would expect more from a school like this. I ended up moving on to a different program at a different institution that seemed to be more modern and up to date program for information technology but has not changed at all. I would not recommend.
It was a great experience throughout those past two years for completing my MBA IT Management. I really thank everyone who has supported me to complete it successfully. Staffs were doing great job supporting students, especially people i know David Abdullah - Enrollment Advisor, Student advisor - Cindy Dilley, and professors. Cindy was amazing, used to call me and giving me directions about the future classes at right time and sending study materials few weeks before the next class and reminded me about the things i have to do within a specific time period and also replied me with emails or phone calls for my concerns. Also, study materials were adequate for each classes. I really don't know about the names of everyone who work behind the screen of this online program, but i would say they are doing a great job for online students. Also, i believe that FIT management has an important role in their coordination and support among their staffs. It is my first degree from USA and FIT did a great job in completing my degree.
I love it. My student advisor is wonderful. She constantly checks up on me to see how I'm doing. The classes are very interactive too. I'm doing an online degree but the professors give me great feedback with my work. There are no surprises when it comes to grade. I definitely recommend this school.
Overall I would rate the education I received at Florida Institute of Technology quite positive. I see all the courses and realize there is a tremendous opportunity to learn here. The professors are overall attentive to student's demands The course work is difficult but A;s can be made in the Business program. The student advisors definitely make the Grade.
A Master's degree taught at an Associate's degree level for the most part. Out of 8 instructors, there were 3 instructors who were good and seemed to actually care about teaching the classes. Only one taught the class by sharing his desktop and used audio. The rest of them taught directly out of the book i.e. 'read this chapter and do these 5 questions at the end every week'. I can only assume they are friends of the dept chair and only use the position to collect a paycheck. For example, I sent one professor 6 emails over the course of the 16 week semester and he answered exactly one of them. What part of the fact that this is an online class does he not understand??? Another professor, who I had for two classes unfortunately, just read the textbook publisher's supplied .ppt slides verbatim each week. The Systems Admin class should be renamed "Linux Desktop Commands" because it is absolutely devoid of any information on Windows servers, modern security, data integrity, data centers, installation, backup, troubleshooting, anything related to a network, the list goes on. He teaches out of a dated 10 year old Linux book and the dept chair seems to be OK with it. I have Digital Globe down the street from where I live and I can say with assurance that after obtaining my MSCIS with a GPA of 4.0, I am not equipped to fulfill even the most basic entry level sys admin gig there. Oh well. It looks pretty on my wall!
One star is a gift, but can't save with no stars.Those here ranking poor got it right. Those with positives here are clearly on campus responding to food and facilities, not administration. It should concern anyone considering this outfit they are operating under three names Alliance, Florida Institute of Technology, and Bisk for each student. They discard sensitive documents, my transcripts TWICE. Learned today some are using unsecured servers for transcripts and I suspect payments. The employees are basically check cashers, cashing paychecks without doing the jobs, like properly filing transcript requests and retrieving transcripts sent to them. It took me having student clearinghouse send out my FIVE transcripts (I have 2 associates, 2 bachelors, and am already working on another Masters besides the MBA specializing in accounting and finance I was expecting to start on with FIT on Monday.) FOUR times for the nitwit to figure out she had to retrieve them when they sent her the notices. The agency paying my tuition has used this place previously, they are a vendor, I suspect this will be the last time. They sent payment on 8/17 and got an email to send the voucher to a different email and did immediately, that person just held on to it. I've been inundated in calls requiring me to cancel meetings, appointments, and delay clients work the calls and emails have been so numerous and time consuming to deal with. To give you an idea, the voucher was sent out a third time with email confirmation received at 9AM this morning, between 11:45AM and 5:19PM I have received no less than FIVE phone calls and TWO emails demanding payment and transcripts, even after telling the first caller I did not want to hear from them ever again. The last call was telling me they found all three copies of the voucher and the transcripts! Got email for orientation notice on Tuesday for orientation on Wednesday, that had me postpone an important meeting, students showed up, host did NOT. Got an email today to show up tonight for orientation, since some last night said it was their second time of no show host, no way were any of us changing our other scheduled commitments for another go. They claim to have sent a welcome kit on 8/9 via Airborn but can provide no tracking number and nothing delivered, I call NEVER SENT. Books not here and first class in Monday, at one point they claimed they were shipped but again, could not provide tracking number. Told them they have until close of business Friday to have my books in my hands or payment WILL be canceled. I'm expecting to lose a whole semester as it is too late to transfer to a school that has its act together. I WILL be sending them a bill for all my time they have wasted with their incompetence and the lost semester again due to their incompetence.
The classes are not consistent. The exams are unnecessarily difficult and confusing. The teachers answer within several days instead of a day. Spent most of my time frustrated. The papers are normal Master's length...when the class has papers. The material was specific, but too much for an exam. You never knew what an exam would contain. Overall everything else was mediocre. Felt like I was going from week to week class to class unmotivated. So, I would say...meh. Middle of the road on everything. Gets the job done, but meh.
This school is the worst! For the first 2 weeks of class, I called my advisor. I left countless messages and emails and got no response. Finally, going into the third week someone called back and informed me that my advisor was no longer employed there and that I have a new one. Ok fine. She reassured me she would help me get on track with my classes. So I was very excited until further in the week when she called me to let me know that I wasn't even fully enrolled in the school. Paperwork that I turned in before was lost. Transcripts were never obtained. So I scrambled to try to turn in what they asked for. The new advisor took a week vacation and every time I called they told me no one could help me but my advisor. By the time she finally came back I missed the deadline to be enrolled and now I owe for my classes and materials which is well over $2,000. I'm extremely frustrated. Please save yourself the headache and find another school!!!
As a military member, I attended FIT for my undergrad work and did the B.S. in Computer Information Systems. I can't tell you how many times I had to revisit work, communicate directly with instructors, and dig into my books to grasp the coursework -- it was difficult. While I feel as though my work at University of Central Florida was a tad more difficult, I was in the Physics program and the dichotomy between the to should be obvious. For an Information Systems degree, I found the education refreshing and useful. Once I left the military, I was immediately employed as a Scrum Product Owner for healthcare IT, and I was already in the middle of my follow-on in FIT's MS of Information Technology (MSIT). While some of the theory-based management classes have been pretty basic, the professors take it seriously. I am consistently challenged by them for my answers, the class sizes are relatively small (8 people in my current course), and I receive exceptional, verbose, and critical feedback. Yes, there are the oddball professors that make you wonder how they still have a job, but that's a problem everywhere. My wife went to Georgetown for her undergrad and John's Hopkins for her grad and she suffered the same problems! All in all, I am a proud Panther and gladly display my degrees.
The coursework for this school is pretty amazing and can be challenging if you are not maintaining your reading and studying obligations. Some professors provide amazing feedback concerning your submissions, others provide minimal feedback or none at all which can be extremely frustrating if you are seeking to gain a better understanding of the subject and what you could have improved. Also, make sure if you are transferring credits from a previous school that they clarify whether or not the transfers are being applied toward your degree program. I was told 28 credits had transferred only to find out they did not apply toward my degree and are "free credits". I still don't have a complete understanding of what exactly that means. My only real gripe is calling financial aid. I've only had to contact them three times via phone, but I always get the same guy (Tony, I believe) when I call. The first call he gave me incorrect information that I thought was going to put an end to my academic career and he expressed zero interest in assisting me. It wasn't until I did the math myself and called back to correct him that I realized he hadn't even bothered to look over my file. He's not been pleasant or helpful in the slightest since. Overall, my experience has been exceptional and I'm looking forward to completion.
