"Great school excellent staff and challenging curriculum."

"The quality of education is fantastic (rated #11 in the US of 228 schools of SW), yet the professors are approachable, seemed to care, and made time for questions either after class, or by office hours or email. Fordham GSS is one of the most diverse programs in NYC, and my classes reflected that. Great veterans & military SW class. It is expensive, but it does have the lowest tuition rate of all the private SW schools in NYC. Four areas of concentration, hundreds of agencies for field placement and good faculty and staff support."

"On a positive note, Fordham has a reputation for academic excellence. Its graduate school for social work ranks second in New York and eleventh in the nation. Unfortunately though, the administrators can be stuffy and detached from the students they serve. Tuition costs, including fees, are roughly $1000 per credit. Unlike many graduate degrees, a Master's degree in Social Work requires 67 credits. For $67,000 in tuition costs, I would appreciate it if the administrators could smile on occasion, or at least not scowl. Additionally, as social worker's themselves, they should set an example of kindness and helpfulness."

"The pros of the campus are that it is located at Lincoln center and are located about 3 blocks away from Central Park. I can walk to the East side of Manhattan if I need to without the park getting in the way. The admissions office was the best at supporting me in comparison to any of the other schools I planned on applying to. They allowed me to apply for free because of my time as an Americorp participant which was a huge plus in my eyes. Downside to the school would be the lack of financial aid-pretty much only 2 full time students can win the largest scholarship they offer, the high cost of attendance, making students pay each time they want to use the gym unless they are participating full time and they do not have a place where students can post their used books for other students to buy. Overall though I like the school and hope to find a way of actually paying for it besides loans."

"The Fordham University Social Work Graduate program is challenging and rewarding. Fordham University has excellent professors that are engaging and care about their students well-being. The staff at Fordham University are very helpful and will gladly answer any questions about the Social Work program. It is important to get to know the staff and professors to articulate your needs to them early on in your graduate school experience."

"I have almost completed my 1st two classes for my master's in social work. Hard semester for me as a returning student, but classes were good and I learned a lot. Not a bad commute. Cons - hard for someone working full time to attend certain classes. It's very expensive and the only way I am able to attend is to take out loans for everything. Makes me feel ill thinking about it, but if I want to help people then this is what I need to do."

"I love the student body. They are active and involved. Plus, the work is rigorous."

"Taking my 1st 2 classes for my Master's in Social Work. Pros of the program are the availability of taking 2 classes in the evenings as I work full time. Teachers so far also seem very knowledgeable and quick to help in any way that they can. There is a lot of reading and work, but that is to be expected. One of the cons is the cost of the school. Not sure how I'll be able to pay back the loans after I graduate (as social work, is not a very high paying career). I feel that it is extremely expensive. Another con, will be the problem of doing internships while working full-time as they require you to do 2 days a week."

"I feel as though academic competitiveness to get into the program is not as high as some would think. There is the usual mix of good professors and bad professors, and I've had experiences with both. Overall the program is good, with elements of uniqueness, such as pertinent classes not offered in other programs.However, this is a very expensive program, especially if you require graduate housing. Financial aid isn't enough to cover tuition and housing.The campus is in Midtown Manhattan, so of course it's a wonderful area, but also costly. Security and technology are on par, but transportation is mostly public. Most of the students are commuters, so social life for most graduate students is limited to classroom time and between classes. The workload is intense once field practice begins, especially if you're also juggling jobs or family life. Overall this is a great program."

"The professors in this program are high-level professionals, who can lead us think and learn more deep in this field. Different background students work together which let us learn more from each other."

"Fordham University is among the top universities with a comprehensive social work program. The staff is both knowledgeable and approachable. A Fordham education prepares the student for real-world experiences. It does this by integrating a diverse curriculum with field internship placements. Attending Fordham has changed my life and increased my career employability."

"This program reaches out to their students and allows for a great deal of support both through staff as well as other students. There is always someone available to talk, although sometimes it may take sometime to get a hold of someone, their advice is solid and will help get you where you need to be."
