"Fortis College in Cuyahoga Falls has some very unprofessional management there. They are very unorganized and all around a very terrible school. I wish I would have went elsewhere. Unless you want rude emails and schedules the day classes start save your money. They will tell you multiple times they are accredited until you get in the college and try to move to a different school."

"The absolute best school for nursing in the Dayton area. The professors are great very helpful. The staff are nice and very competent. Do not listen to the haters, they are only jealous, dropped out or could not pay. I was able to fulfill my dreams of nursing with their program. They just got a new DON and she rocks. She really knows how to run a program. They have the nicest staff and you never feel like just a number like you do at other school. It is a very personal experience. My favorite thing was the SIM lab, something other schools do not have. It was very informative and made learning the nursing environment very rewarding, well worth your time!"

"Attended the Fortis College nursing program and only have great things to say about it. The teachers take their job extremely serious and you have to work really hard to pass the classes. This program is not easy so if you were not a hard worker find somewhere else. Passed the ISCHMM my first try thanks to Fortis"

"Complete waste of time. All the teachers except 2 don't care about their students and do not want to see them succeed. The Dean of the nursing program is a sneaky, leery, no good piece of blank, she doesn't communicate with the students, she changes the rules weekly, she is not there to help the students or make the school better, she is just there to make sure the school gets paid. The president of Fortis College Centerville is a card board cut out of a president. He gives special treatment to female students and allows them to "pass" and move on even if the fail the class. There has been numerous rumors of him have personal, and sexual relationships with students. He also has removed all trash cans from every class room to prevent students throwing trash away. Fortis college Centerville has there students do clinical at location where they can not do patient care and they are forced to sit in a conference room for 10 hours at a time and do nothing. The clinical coordinator does everything but her job, and thinks she is the best nurse to walk the face of the earth. She tells her students one thing in the class room and does the complete opposite in the clinical setting. This school is a complete waste of time and money, all they want is your money and don't care about their students"

"I would first like to say every school comes with problems and you have to decide what problems you want to deal with. I highly suggest not to attend this college for many reasons and the most important is that there are NO advocates for the students. No matter what any of the staff may say with their words there is no one there to support you in any real decisions regarding your profession and schooling. I would be very cautious of the fact that this school is only about money for one it's a business and once you are in they are getting their money regardless if you pass or fail. This college says one thing bit their actions have a total difference. Nursing is a career where you have to be flexible but they only expect that from their students if you are night student please be careful for you WILL have day clinicals. Many of us have had to quit our jobs to pursue this career. I know many people do not have the luxury of just quitting their jobs so that may go to school and this is something they will not tell you in admissions. Also understand that the worst culprit of this do not care because I already have my money attitude is the president of the school. I have overheard him talking to a professor as to why he thinks all nursing students only want the easy way out. Believe me if you are pursuing this profession the last thing you want is the easy way out. I highly recommend to go anywhere else but try to go somewhere where your credits will transfer. You could face be I ng left with over 40 grand in debt because of this school and not even be able to go anywhere else. I wish I would've done some research before I went to this school because even though the students become your family I don't think I would chose those college again."

"I wish I would have done research more thorough then I did when I enrolled. The reviews for this location are on point to the truth. It is sad how many students are just being tossed around at this campus, having the exam answers given to them from the instructors right before the exam. I have taken 6 or so HESIs now and the last 2 my instructor willingly helped each of us on any question we need, just so she'd have a higher pass score. When I tried to confide in the director of nursing she said I was over exaggerating and I should be thankful I got the grade I received. There is a lot of false advertising at this school in regards to the evening program, they don't have enough instructors so the schedule changes between day hours and nights. The whole point in evening classes is to be able to keep your job to support your family and pay your way through school. I had to go from 40+ hour work week to 10. How is that fair? It's impossible to live like that. I know several students who are having the second problems with their jobs as well and some of them are no longer able to work. The clinical locations are far, which isn't that big of a deal most of the time, but when they are 8 hour days it can become a struggle. ESPECIALLY when you show up and do 4 hours of clinical work at a cute and come to find out we weren't even aloud to be there due to the school failing to sign contracts. We, as students were working, doing treatments, imagine how much trouble that could've caused!!! Unbelievable and of course once again, the instructor said we need to act like it never happened and to not talk about it. Sad and unprofessional. The lab hours are a waste and a joke as well, lab is required so when we have lecture in one room we stop mid way through, go to the lab and continue the lecture there. No lab work is ever done, they can just write it off that it was since we were in the room. Great learning experiences. Not. I don't understand how a school that lies, hides and cover their mistakes, give students exam and HESI answers can keep their accreditation. I am 100% ashamed to say that I attend this college. I sat in on an NCLEX review class, they didn't realize I wasn't even supposed to be in the room, they were reviewing the questions and answers from the 2015 exam. Never did they review what they learned, but they taught us how to remember answers quite well. The president is aware of all that is going on and yet he refuses to address any issues all he worries about is someone eating a salad or chips in the classroom, not the fact that he is running a fraudulent school. I have also, like others have stated in their reviews, contacted the Ohio board of nursing and education. I would much rather start over from a real institution who truly cares about more than their pass rate. This is what causes schools to lose their accreditation and close their doors. Nothing at this campus represents any sort of professionalism or honesty. It's crooked and the audit they just had was rigged and we'll prepared for. Funny how the students know about that isn't it? I know 3 students who aren't up to date on their immunizations who are in clinicals this quarter, they just lied and printed off fake ones because they didn't want to pay to have them. Those forms look like they were written by a child and how they got overlooked is scary. I feel as if I have been wasting my time and money at this place. I know many will ask why I stayed if it was so bad, the answer I have is because ITT closed, hondoros doesn't have better ratings and it's "fast tracked". I hear every year how things are getting better, the only thing that's improving is the Dean, director of nursing and instructors hiding issues and lying. Let's not forget about the improvement on exam grades. So thank you Fortis, for my great exam grades. Our exams are over 7+ chapters at times, the school doesn't make the exams so they don't know what to teach. In one book that has well over 25 chapters, we honestly reviewed 4 chapters in a quarter. Can anything be done about any of this? I would really like to know what I can do. I am going for my RN in Jan so I'm glad I won't be a LPN with no education out in the field, I feel bad for patients out there who may have some of these students as their nurse and caregiver."

Colleagues

Making a decision to apply to a nursing program is indeed a critical one. The major is very challenging and unfortunately not everyone will be successful. I encourage you to visit the school with a set of unbias eyes. The visit could include an opportunity for you to potentially meet with current students so you receive a balance review.

Best of luck on your journey towards being a nurse.

"The nursing program is a joke, but the tuition pid is not funny. Teachers not qualified is the big thing, no teachers hours, no tutoring for the nursing classes, have to get a pass to go to the bathroom. The learning environment is like elementary school. The director will not listen to any student. This place is worse than pathetic. We wasted about $9,000 on one semester there. My son passed but hated it and wouldn't go back. We're told student loans would cover about $1200 as I paid the rest in cash. lol and behold we now have a judgment against us for that with not much explanation. Go to a real college! All of the community colleges have certified professors and programs. Have been told a nursing degree from here isn't well respected in the industry. We got sucked in by the intake person who was very good at her job, and thinking he could get his AA RN in less time. If you look at their true graduation rate it is very very low. They lied about it."

"I am about to enter my last quarter at this place. Most would be happy and relieved, I am not. I am scared. We were just passed along, the instructors honestly just added a couple points to our exams so that we would reach the passing grades. No one in my group should be where we are now, I can make 2 instructors that need to be looked into. The study guides they started to give us are currently question by question that goes in the order of the exams. I failed a class and was able to get passed along, it's that easy. The president at this school is a joke, all he cares about is the pass rating of the exit exam and those words came out of his mouth. The Dean of nursing is pretty much non existent when it comes to having issues she'll just talk to the instructors and once again just pass us along. Would I recommend this school? Absolutely not. This is at the Centerville location in case anyone needs to know. I am currently in the process of getting in touch with the Ohio board to address my complaints. Shall I continue to contain about the clinicals, as they are even worse?"

Colleagues

Thank you very much for this dialogue.....nursing is probably one of the most challenging major with so much that must be learned in a very short period of time. You are absolutely accurate in your assessment that success requires significant time studying and ownership of your own learning. Faculty should be there to coach and mentor you along the learning journey. If there are specific challenges please share them with your faculty, Dean, and as needed Campus President. The eventual reward of becoming a nurse will make the journey well worth the effort required.

"Do NOT enroll at Fortis. The instructors are not qualified to teach. The coursework is a complete joke and financial aid will coax the maximum amount of money out if you. If you want an education, go to a legitimate two year, state accredited school. The credits you earn at these "schools" do not transfer anywhere. I cannot stress enough how big of a mistake it would be going to one of their schools. Just don't."
Eric Goodman, Ph.D.

As the Vice President of Education, I'd like to thank you for sharing your perspective on what constitutes a legitimate school. It would be helpful to have more information regarding whether or not you actually attended this school and if so, what campus and program you were in so we can explore what seems to you as unqualified faculty and the coursework you reference?

As an accredited institution we have standards regarding faculty credentials. In addition, unlike other state accredited schools that you reference, we have accountability to various agencies on our students retention, employment and licensure. As a result, you'll find our programs are designed with the relevancy to prepare our graduates for success in the career field.

Also, the decision regarding transferability of credits is always at the discretion of the receiving school (or where you may transfer to) so there may be variability in the acceptance of credit.

Once again, I'd invite you to contact me at egoodman@edaff.com so I can learn more about the context of your perceptions and understand your vague generalizations. I look forward to visiting with you soon and thanks in advance for helping us improve.

"I wish their online program had another way to track attendance than whether or not I post a discussion question. Actually Online schooling in general just needs to be more relaxed here I am full time working mom trying to get my degree and the flexibility I thought I'd get has yet to be seen. I thought that this getting a degree online meant I'd be able to study at my own pace and receive my degree in my own time.Last time I checked it's on my dime too... Sure I have financial aid but I'm paying all that money back as I go. To top it all off some of these classes are a waste come on GD American education & it's greed. All I'm trying to say is can I get what I'm paying for from these darn schools . It's funny cause a good chunk of the world has made EDUCATION FREE we're the only ones who are trying to capitalize off of our youth... Not speaking in general Fortis you and every other college in America are fucking crooks and should all start digging your graves next to Westwood college. If you want an education go to school outside the US. Hell the experience is definitely worth it and you'll probably pay the same amount for it as you would your 1st semester."

"Don't go to Fortis Centerville. It was the biggest mistake I ever made. If you are serious about your degree, you need to look elsewhere. The so called teachers/professors or whatever you want to call them are a joke. They hardly seem competent. They don't even teach, they just show slides and talk about their personal lives which nobody cares about. Most of us are hard working adults looking to better ourselves, but they don't even care. They show up sometimes, but even when they do, they just show slides and give you a test. The quizzes that they give you don't even cover what you "learned". The head of the nursing program is the biggest joke I've ever met. How she became a teacher I have no idea. I'm only posting this as anonymous because I have a relative that goes there, and I don't want them to be associated with my anger. Trust me, stay far far away from this place. I don't even write reviews, but I figured in this situation I would because I want to help anyone I can stay away from this place. I cannot think of one positive thing to say. "I have been at this school for a couple of months now, and I love it. I am a single mom who also works, and this school has been very flexible. I attended IUPUI for a year previously, and though it is a good school it is a difficult school to attend with a busy outside life. Before I discovered Fortis I was very nervous thinking about how I was going to get through college to support my child. Looking through other students reviews, I think they many don't know how lucky they are to have found a program like Fortis. You can't expect to go in a accredited program and not have to do any work for your degree. With that being said you will have to work at this college, but they are very helpful and work with you as much as possible."

"Whoever wrote do your homework before starting a program like this is correct. I went to Fortis on-line to get my bachelor's in business management. I already worked the field for over 30 years without the paper, but times have changed and corporations want them. For the most part the teachers I had really knew their stuff and were very helpful, although I could have taught them as well, they didn't have the application part. Books and real life are definitely two different things. I found that when dealing with Fortis, it is all about the money, not only do they lie, and cheat, they also change grades. If you go here protect yourself, take screen shots often of your grades and credits. They cut me out of class for financial reasons having to do with year past taxes, something stupid, 2 weeks before graduation, that hurt in more than one way. Not to mention they had also changed a grade and insisted I take the class over again, of course for more money. You also need to be aware that one department does not know what the other department is doing, they are not located in the same place. I would not recommend this school to anyone."

"The FORTIS Norfolk HVAC/R Instructor cadre is a multi-talented lot of refrigeration technicians. During my time as a student there, the youngest instructor had just 5+ years of commercial oriented refrigeration under his belt, yet he was still working in the actual field while instructing the night class. The entire group brought a wealth of personal experience into the classroom and made the lesson learning as pleasant as it can get when it comes to learning about refrigeration. The lab facility for actual hands-on learning consists of your standard residential heating and cooling units that most beginning HVAC/R technicians will come across in the field. The instructors enjoy inserting problems into the equipment that the students must troubleshoot and fix to get the system operational. The instructors will act as the customers during the scenarios but will interject if there shows a possibility of unsafe actions by the student that could cause actual major damage to the student or the equipment. Along with the standard troubleshooting/maintenance training, there may arise an opportunity that a project comes in for students to work on. Our class had the opportunity to rebuild a Manitowak commercial grade ice maker that had been thrown into a field for scrap. The class had to clean up the parts, install a new compressor, leak test and evacuate the system, wire the system back up, plumb the intake and discharge water lines and descale the actual ice making component. After all was said and done, we took a $5,000 system that had been thrown out for scrap and made it operational again. That is something that you might be hard pressed to find in other school labs for learning. As for the students who wish to come to FORTIS Norfolk HVAC/R to learn about the refrigeration industry, I would encourage you to come. That being said, I will now discourage anyone who wears a cloak of entitlement from coming to this facility. You are a student for most of a year and you are there to learn. If an actual project becomes available for you to work on, do NOT be that person who says, Are we getting paid for this? who actually feels like you need to be paid. You are there for experience that will more than pay for itself, as you are learning on actual equipment that others don't know how to fix, but you will. Bring the mindset of learning, leave the mindset of "me, myself, and I". I consider myself blessed to have been able to have the classmates that I started up with and the opportunity to learn under the experience of the FORTIS HVAC/R cadre. I will not lie about the frustration of traveling there four nights a week back and forth from the Yorktown area through the tunnels. That was the worst part about my year of training, being stuck in sometimes 90+ minute traffic jams. That was offset with the knowledge that I was given a great opportunity to learn from folks with actual experience from the field in different areas. Listening to other students that have attended other local HVAC/R classes in the area, they were nowhere near the level of hands-on learning that FORTIS provides. The other staff members at FORTIS also go the extra mile to ensure that you are getting the full benefit of college, from the registrar to the job placement office. I also know how to go into my own systems at my house and work on them should the need arise. I even have done my own refrigerator maintenance; just dont tell my landlord, for I havent. That being said, it means that I knew enough to work on the system and work on maintenance without breaking it."
