Fortis Smyrna...I've read the other reviews and I felt the need to submit my own. In every place in life, you get out of it what you put in. There was a lot of turmoil and a lot of frustration with staff, but there was a huge lack of effort from so many students. Attitudes of ALL kinds and a mix of character. The students ranged from 20-50 yr old avg of 20 somethings... maturity is only that of the beholder and it is not "high school" it is life! Every school has its ups and downs, but I truly believe that I received a top notch education. Gossip is everywhere and what you see is not necessarily what is going on behind closed doors, good and bad. Everyday in my career I can still hear my instructors voices pushing me to be better, stronger, and more confident in my abilities. The students are all coming from different stages in their life and looking to succeed as best they can in their situations. Even the turmoil helped prepare me for "real life". I am grateful to EVERY instructor, even the one I hated the most. They taught me that most important in life is, seek and you shall find. If you can see obstacles as opportunities you will go far. I'm a huge fan of Fortis and the HYG program. I never agreed with the crap and want/ed this program to thrive. But it is a young department in which every term they seek to grow and improve. I believe that the biggest problem at Fortis, like everywhere else, it is run by humans. Ppl make mistakes and some are bullies and some are sweet and caring and helpful and bottom line, no matter how they go about their tasks, EVERYONE there truly does want the students to succeed! I'm thankful for Fortis Smyrna and I highly recommend this program. Don't read into all the bullsh** because everyone experiences everything differently. Ms. JL, I thank you for teaching me to shut my mouth and just say yes ma'am, I'm a better person and a great hygienist bc of it! BTW, the school part of your career is only the beginning... in practice is where you really are the RDH! Good luck!
Dental hygiene program in Fortis College brought me to a complete new way of life: knowledge, professional skills, organization, speed and confidence in my profession). All the hard work that I invested into this program paid me back. With a new DH program director Mrs.G., the overall experience in this school was great. She does go an extra mile for every student. She will help to bring all your potential to maximum degree. Instructors are well trained and always put an effort to help students every time they asked for. I know this school very well since it was Medix as I graduated there in a dental assisting program. Mr.F. was my master instructor. He trained and motivated me highly that dentistry is in my blood now. Later I decided to go same school to achieve a higher degree in dentistry. It was some bumps at the beginning as the DH program still was a new one at this school. So I am an RDH now. You cant imagine how thankful I am to my director and instructors of Fortis college, my financial aid people who helped me to overcome all barriers in order to become a licensed dental professional in a state of GA. THANK YOU!
I'm so happy to say I'm no longer a student at the For your Money college, this school is a TERRIBLE place to invest your time and money, people walk off the street with no prior teaching experience and become a full time teacher on your dollars, are teacher constantly told use to Google are questions because she didn't know the answer because she never read the book that she was teaching from, I had teachers that would become angry if you asked questions period, I was told by serval faculty members that this is a self learning environment and you can teach yourself more than I can would laugh and walk away as if my time, future and money was a joke. The Dean of nursing is a narcissist that is just as less resourceful when you have a issue with your educational rights, don't go here with any expectations of passing the NCLEX unless you have outside help go check out the turn over rate for there instructors and passing rates for NCLEX I surely wish I knew these small helpful tips before I went, I had no previous background in nursing but always had a passion for caring for others and decided to attend that CIRCUS act. They have no working lab equipment, nor practical stimulation equipment that they promised when you do your walk through, the teacher didn't believe we needed to wear gloves during needle sticks and told us to do as we pleased during lab time, she would lie about students to other faculty members so they would give those students a hard time as well, they applied for sometime of grant which was a COG grant and later I found out this was illegal because I wasn't a associate degree student but they got the money, I graduated and was on the Dean's list for 3 terms and still had to take the NCLEX 2 times before I passed it, now that I'm working after only applying at 6 different facilities because not a lot of places hire graduates from Cincinnati Fortis because of there reputation of being incompatent, lacking in qualified skills, and there inability to train their students at the appropriate nursing entry level. Last but not to say the least when we went for our clinicals the sites would not even allow for us to do patient care because what was said was that a past instructors told one of there on staff nurses that we had experience with needle sticks and insulin injections and when several students where ask by the Director of Nursing before being allowed to perform the procedure what was the actual process of the procedure no one knew the correct degree of inserting the needle the Director told the instructor we can always observe but would not be allowed to perform the procedure because of the patient risk factors, the same instructor told us in the next class she forgot to show us what to do and if we had read the book the procedure some student said yes so she tried to encourage us to do it on each other, with no one willing to do it she became upset and said if you don't do it here we will not be allowed to do it at the facility!!
This school is a nightmare. The DOE, Terri had an affair with one of our classmates. From the moment you enter the door, unprofessional. The OBN has been all over them. They lie and could care less about your education, just taking your money. This campus goes through staff like crazy. They fire or run off amazing instructors and keep the poor ones. They have so many that don't teach. You'll wait and wait for class to begin and the instructor never shows. I wish someone had warned me.
This SPT program is very poorly run. The professors do not have a clue about anything and often times offer input that is completely false. Very difficult to work with. It's a waste of time and money. They should pay you to go to this school because you will be teaching yourself.
This institution has helped me develop skills needed to work in a hospital setting. The instructors are knowledgeable and competent to teach. During my time here I made connections with other students. In order to succeed one must put the time and effort.
Fortis College in Cuyahoga Falls has some very unprofessional management there. They are very unorganized and all around a very terrible school. I wish I would have went elsewhere. Unless you want rude emails and schedules the day classes start save your money. They will tell you multiple times they are accredited until you get in the college and try to move to a different school.
Not worth it.not at all. you won't able to work at every dental office as EFDA. this school just want your money. As soon as signing up for this school, you won't be able to cancel/ no refund. you will be upset for every single step at this school. I posted this to just let people know. if you like your time and money do not wasted at Fortis
The absolute best school for nursing in the Dayton area. The professors are great very helpful. The staff are nice and very competent. Do not listen to the haters, they are only jealous, dropped out or could not pay. I was able to fulfill my dreams of nursing with their program. They just got a new DON and she rocks. She really knows how to run a program. They have the nicest staff and you never feel like just a number like you do at other school. It is a very personal experience. My favorite thing was the SIM lab, something other schools do not have. It was very informative and made learning the nursing environment very rewarding, well worth your time!
It was ok there. Some instructors were very good people. Could be a little more professional. Overall experience was good. They should perhaps add a few more class choices. More medical and a few more technical jobs, such as electrical, mechanical, and welding,
