"I am an online student, very engaged in my program, Autism Spectrum Disorders. The program challenges me to become better in my chosen field of study. I would certainly recommend Grand Canyon University to anyone. Some of the pros are the personal phone calls received to inform, remind and guide students, and the timely responses received from professors concerning assignments, grades and general questions. I have not yet experienced any real cons except maybe not having the luxury of visiting campus and seeing the people I share and learn with everyday."

"I really loved the school when I was on-campus for a semester. The classes and professor really seemed to take the time to make sure you were understanding the course material. The counselors were also really helpful as they made sure that I was taken care of financially and that I wasn't having any issues with my classes or professors. However, I switched to online school for the last three semesters and ever since have been pretty much ignored. It's almost the end of my last semester and it's the first I've heard from my counselor since November. She's just letting me know how much my summer class will cost and that it's due in a week. That would have been nice to know a month ago. I feel like as an online student, I am not getting the same treatment that I did when I was on-campus. Also, because it is a newer program and the actually professor didn't write the program for the class they are teaching, much of the course work can be confusing. Sometimes the professors don't even know what is expected from an assignment because it is so vague. I would recommend that if you are looking at this school, don't go online. Be an on-campus student because it was a much better education and experience. Their online school sucks! Also, my counselor has not helped me find a job for graduation even though I have tried contacting her. I am finding it difficult to start my career because I not only need a degree but also experience in the field to even be considered for a position at most places."

"I was fearful to attend the online program. I read several negetive reviews and had not been to school in over a decade. My advisors are just amazing, and they put my mind at ease. The work is intensive. I've spent many sleepless nights. I suggest that if there are any quizzes to NOT click on the quiz until you are ready to take the quiz. I failed a quiz because of my curiosity. Also to recieve full participation points have 3 days of posts in addition to your inital response of EACH discussion post.(total 4 posts, 3 days) Also, having a profreading is essential. With an online classes usually after the 3rd week the work becomes more and more intense. I suggest to look ahead of what is expected in the sixth week. I had to do clinical around two high holidays and it proved to be difficult. If I planned ahead and looked ahead it would not have been such a scramble to get it done. Also with clinicals go to the schools ahead of time and get the proper paper work done. GCU's requirements are different from the requirements in my area as far as background checks. Being computer literate is important. I know that goes without saying, but true."

"Every online class I take has issues with the curriculum and when I report it the response is always the same "This issue has been brought to the attention of the Curriculum department and will be addressed in an upcoming revision of the course." This does not help me. They give you the opportunity to fill out a survey after each class but they obviously aren't reading them. I tell them they need to focus on quality control because of issues with the curriculum. The one class I took would quiz every week and the material included future chapters. This class has me writing a paper with a focus on subsystems which hasn't even been covered yet. For paying $1800 a class these issues should be fixed. Also, I specifically asked the enrollment advisor if the work of others in a group project would affect my grade. She said it wouldn't, which was a total misrepresentation. If these problems didn't exist, I would be happy with the school. I'm doing well and will graduate in a year and a half."

"I am currently in the Doctoral program. Although GCU has an academically rigorous program, the administration and heads of the Doctoral program are disconnected from the students. Student Advisors are overworked and take days and sometimes weeks to get back to you on key issues. There appears to be continuous efforts to arbitrarily increase the length of time to complete the dissertation process as way to maximize profit at the expense of the Doctoral student. For example, my dissertation chair was replaced and later my methodologist left setting me back almost a year in my progress.I have such an investment in time, money, and sweat equity I will finish my Doctorate but I would not recommend the program to other potential Doctoral candidates until GCU reforms their systems and operations to engage with students to support their success and progress."

"I am currently trying to complete my dissertation so that I can be finished with GCU. Overall through the course work for my program everything went fairly smooth until I was assigned my dissertation chair. My chair is either lazy or just clueless about his role in the dissertation process. Unlike many other schools, at GCU the learner is assigned a dissertation chair without any input. My degree field is psychology and my chair's degree is in technology. I have to explain the most basic concepts that any Psy 101 student would know. My chair has continued to delay my dissertation process by only allowing me to submit one item in week 4 and one in week 7 of an eight week class. Even after making the suggested changes from week 7 in one class, I would be forced to wait until week four of the next class, including the one week off between the dissertation classes. In a 18 months, I have never spoken to my chair even though the "chair expectations" says we are to speak at least twice a week. I have filed numerous complaints and appeals concerning my chair will little results. My first complaints were sent to my student services advisor, asking to have my chair replaced. After numerous emails and calls over a two month period I learned that she had quit and nobody was looking into my complaint. I was later told that I could not change my chair and that I needed to "just deal with it". My chair keeps telling me to send my prospectus and proposal to the other members of my committee (who are great) that has to come from him in order for them to start reviewing my work, as they would be overwhelmed if they did work based on the learner sending it to them before it was ready. I have been able to work with my methodologist as she can see that my chair is not doing his job. On my first appeal, (not for my grade but for having to pay for his delaying tactics) the university sent me a letter saying that while it was found that my chair had cause multiple delays but because my methodologist had a short turn-around time that it was ok. In the first appeal I had also voiced my concern about not getting to speak to my chair and their reply was that just because it was in the expectations did not make it a requirement that he talked to me. I am currently awaiting the results of my second appeal about my chair and his delay tactics but do not expect them to see it my way. I am in my third dissertation extension class (extra classes above the required classes at $1890.00 each) and do not foresee it getting any better. The university knows that I will continue to pay for these extra classes because if I do not I will not complete this degree. GCU claims to be a Christian university but all they care about is the money. I threatened to take a year off in order to get a new dissertation chair and even though I have completed all of the required classes associated with this degree, it was threatened that if I did I could be forced to take additional classes at an additional cost. There were three others with me that had the same chair and I am the only one that has not quit. This should be a red flag about this chair but the university just cannot recognize or admit the truth. The only good news is after my 5th extension class the cost drops to $500.00 per class. The individual that recommended that I get my Ph.D. at GCU because she went there for her Masters, apologizes every time that we see each other. I continue to tell her that it is not her fault that this university behaves in the manner that it does. The only thing that this university is concerned about is getting your money."

I did all online for my program, and it was great for me. Online programs are not for everyone, though, so it's important to keep that in mind when looking at certain programs at this school. All my advisors were really good about aiding me when I needed it and making sure that my experience is a smooth one. I enjoyed my time at GCU, and I believe anyone who wants to get a useful educational experience would agree."

"I hesitated joining this school due to reviews but I'm almost at my financial aid limit. I'm a single mom and just graduated with my M.B.A. last year. It was hard but I could manage it. I'm not sure if I'm going to drop or not though at GCU. The material is great but the work load is overwhelming. I'm up til 3 a.m. every night and still can't get it all done. I knew at enrollment that we had to post and comment three separate days during the school week for the hefty participation points. That was ok. My second class boosted it up to eight responses. I spend all my time keeping up with that and it leaves little time for hefty assignments. If I drop now, I'm stuck with like a 5 grand bill. If I keep going at this rate, my health and work will suffer. I feel like it's unfair to state certain requirements then change it after a student has signed up. My M.B.A. had intense workloads bug you knew what it was, when it was due and you could build a life / school balance around it. This is so unorganized. The teacher will also assign two projects due on one day. There is only an option to upload one file. I've tried merging them into a pdf but then she misses one and marks it late."
