"Fifth year online student here! I started my online degree process back in 2021 when I was first enlisted in the military AD Army. It was easy enough to get an essay submitted and my references submitted in order to get accepted and start classes. It was a smooth process for the first two years while I was active duty since I didn’t rely on my GI bill yet. You can pay for classes using federal student loans as a masters degree plan, as well get TA while active duty. Flash forward two years later 2023 when I transition to civilian life/ GI bill. It was an ok transition and of course there’s a monthly stipend, for part time online students like myself, you revive half time status so for that I got about 3/7ths of what I would have gotten were I a full time student with more than 15 credits per semester or more. My complaint there was I couldn’t convert to being a full time student since my online program didn’t offer it sadly. I did attempt to transition to going in person for a class every other week but it didn’t work out. I looked into transferring programs as an alternative so I would be able to finish my degree faster but elsewhere. Most programs in mental health won’t accept all of your transfer credits as they want you to follow their programs from the beginning. Basically I was stuck with GCU and that was fine. I’d already spent thousands in federal loans to attend and I’d put in effort to do okay in my program. The classes are okay all-in-all, some professors are more lenient than others and all that online jazz. I’m give GCU a terrible review after all these years because, like most things that end badly, there’s been a mix of financial and interpersonal issues that have arisen where i wouldn’t recommend others to attend here unless they’re very flexible with how long it may take to actually get their degree or if they expect to stay active duty through their degree. Financially, there’s been a doctors form that my advisor has had me resubmit with corrections about 8 times in the last 12 months. I have emails that date back to November 2025 regarding one doctors note that hasn’t been able to be successfully filled out according to an unknown entity. My advisor has stated he’s “resubmitted for review” literally every other email. Then it gets declined again, he emails me what needs changing and thus we restart the process over .. again and again. I haven’t been able to have a constructive conversation with this advisor in years at this point because he can come off as rude and not understanding of how students like myself are feeling. Basically I am the bad person who can’t get this form completed and now am left without financial aid because of it. Yes, this form has left me without further funding either from federal nor my GI bill. Absolute cash grab since I’m stuck with a degree, I don’t have an advisor that I can talk to and I’ve tried repeatedly to speak with the GCU student centers that hand complaints and we have been utterly unsuccessful in reaching one another. I will attach the doctors form in question so perhaps other students can be on the lookout as it’s not a cut and dry process"

"Some of the instructors I have experienced in the online classrooms have been very responsive and helpful. A few instructors take forever to grade assignments or provide feedback to help on your academic journey. When I voiced this concern to my student services counselor, I was given a phone meeting appointment that they missed leaving me feeling as though I am not being heard or being taken seriously. As a student that also works 30+ hours a week, I do not feel valued in my academic studies at the moment."

"This school was super easy to work with, UNTIL I had an issue. They bounced problems person to person. I had multiple appts set up with my advisor when she just causally failed to call me or follow up. I only got responses to about 25% of the emails I sent. Not only this, but I got vastly different numbers when asking for help with my finances, and the people who originally told me the numbers ghosted me after the other counselor admitted my loan was double what I was told it would be."

"Worst school experience of my life! If I could give this university -100 stars, I would. The Student Services and Financial Aid staff made my life incredibly difficult throughout 2024. Prior to that, I loved attending GCU, which is why I returned to earn my second master’s degree. Unfortunately, my experience completely changed, and I would not recommend this university to anyone."

"Overall GCU is a great school, and the way the classes are run worked well for me as I was also working full time while I attended. It is important to keep in mind that this is a Christian College, and while I was told that there would be one class that was heavily Christian based, I have found several of my classes pull heavily from the Christian bible. This is fine but something I know may not make all people looking to attend comfortable. Other than that most of the teachers are great, I did have a few that were hard to work with, but that's true in any school. Keep in mind you will be doing shorter faster paced classes, it is a lot of reading, prepare yourself to make sure you have the time for the reading."

"Grand Canyon University online was an great school to attend online, and a had a great team to work with. The teachers are really nice, and easy to communicate with, and the curriculum was easy to understand. The schools academic department is easy to work with as well and had a lot of resources to offer."

"I had a very positive experience. There were a couple of hiccups with not communicating from the advisor/counselor when it came to my last year. I just finished my last year. I had no problems with teachers/professors. All seemed knowledgeable and worked with me. My brother passed away while I was attending and I did mention to my teacher that I was sorry my work my be delayed since I was having to deal with everything. She was extremely understanding and was very helpful in that time. I have been in the early education field for 27 years and the course work was great, I definitely had to work hard at it. I am now looking into getting my masters"

"Grand Canyon University gave me a strong foundation in Nursing through supportive practical learning, a responsive set of professors, and a diverse student community. The program was intense but it challenged me to grow academically and personally while preparing me for real-world healthcare environments. I am forever grateful to this institution."

"This review based on my experience at grand canyon University is based on my personal experience as a student there, after completing my master's degree there the experience I enjoyed was based on pleasant encounters from the price of being a student there to the teachers and teachings."

"I attended Grand Canyon University from 2023 to 2025 and graduated in May 2025 with a Masters in Elementary Education. Overall, I am happy with my experience at GCU. I was able to complete my studies while working full time with my schedule and felt I was able to learn a lot from the classes. My professors, for the most part, were responsive and fair, and taught necessary skills for the classroom in those two years. My major complaint is I felt it was fairly expensive for being an online program, but maybe that is every college nowadays."

"I graduated from GCU with a degree in elementary education as an online student. It was an overall good experience. Most of the teachers were helpful and fair. The assignments were reasonable although a bit too much of writing papers. I am glad to never write a paper again. You are able to still have interaction with other students as I have a couple friends from this time that I still talk to and were helpful while we attended at the same time. The counselors were fantastic. My academic counselor was great and always there to help and listen and provide any guidance. The enrollment process was very smooth and rather simple. The enrollment counselor was superb. She was the best of all staff at the school. Upbeat and helpful and kind. It has has a Christian focus but without being in your face about it. I would recommend attending GCU to anyone."

"I dislike Grand Canyon University bc of its unfriendliness and the housing people are not good with communication and it’s like it’s not fun. I was not welcomed in this school and now I want to transfer to another school bc of what happened here. Another reason why I don’t like it here is because of the people, like come on"

"I feel that overall I was pushed into a general degree rather than looking into the specialized programs that I was interested in. I was advised to go into general psych rather than the social work degree I was interested in pursuing. It felt like anytime I needed help that nobody was there to assist much less answer my questions."

"I think at the end of the day a college wont make you have a great or bad experience I think it is up to you for the most part. GCU gave me all the tools and things I needed to have a positive experiecne during my time in classroom and online completing work."

"I attended Grand canyon University to pursue my master's degree in social work. I graduated May 2025 and the program was about 17 months long. I participated in the advanced standing program for my master's degree. I was only on campus one time and that was her graduation but I can say the campus is beautiful clean and very nice. I enjoyed my time getting my degree at Grand canyon University and I would recommend it to anyone else pursuing their masters degree in social work."

"The worst experience I will ever have. I will regret going to this ghetto, boring, and stingy school for the rest of my life. This school will take food out of my children's mouths for decades due to how deceitful they portray their brand. They laugh in your face by giving you a free plane ride, and then it becomes the worst financial decision you'll ever make. It will forever be my biggest regret. Hated every second. The most deceiving, money-hungry school that will deceive you every step of the way. No wonder the dropout rate is so high. I should have listened to the masses who leave this money trap of a school. My recommendation is to remove Affordable and Christian from the slogan. GCU will ruin your life with debt and then still want their 50$ cleaning fee for a roommate that doesn't clean their side of the dorm or for having a room key stolen. This school is the worst thing to ever happen to me. Thank you."

"There are pros and cons with every school, with this school it was super nice to have it be fully online. I had 1-2 kids at this time and it really made it easier as a stay at home. Cons were the price it was and (still is) high because I’m paying for it still. The classes were good and bad. Some teachers just gave grades Willy nilly it felt like. Others actually cared. The submission for assignments was once a week and discussion posts were twice a week. I wouldn’t rave over the school but it got me to where I needed to be ."
