"The pros are definitely the faculty and the location. The faculty is full of knowledgeable professors who care about their students success. The location is in a growing area with plenty of life and places to live surrounding the school. The only real con is the parking!"

"MT offered a fantastic masters program in Higher Education. The faculty was competent and passionate, and were eager to help the students become better teachers. Class sizes were small and effective, and the campus was easy to navigate. I highly recommend choosing MTSU for grad school!!"

"I am pursuing a Doctoral degree in Health and Human performance. My department is comprised of highly motivated, intelligent and helpful faculty and students. The program could be more structured but overall it is an awesome program."

"Tell us about your college experience.I would've been better suited for a smaller, private school in a more culturally diverse area.Would you get the same degree if you could start over?If I could start over and HAD to choose a different degree, I'd probably do something in neuroscience, so what would that be? Biology, I suppose. What advice can you offer other students?Take a year off before going to college."

"From my observation of the graduate program in economics at MTSU, I find that the program is one that is challenging in just the right degree. It also benefits from the usual advantages of a small program: a close relationship with professors and peers, an abundance of research resources for each student, and a focus on job placement during the program. It also suffers from the usual disadvantages of a small program: a lack of funding for large-scale research, the inability to publish in the field of macroeconomics, and the stigma in the job market toward graduates of small programs. Overall, I believe the value of the program is exceptional in comparison to similar programs across the south, especially with regard to the placements of graduates."

"Middle Tennessee State University is a large school with a diversity of individuals which makes it beneficial and educational to hear different people's opinions. They offer a few graduate assistantships which is beneficial as well."

"I was one of many who felt that four years had been enough, and that even one year more studying for a master’s degree would be too much. My parents, unfortunately, disagreed. My grades, though decent, were not particularly good, while there were numerous scholarships available, even in a down economy. It made sense to spend an additional year or two in school in order to make myself a better candidate in the job market. Ten years, three postgraduate degrees, and an ongoing Ph. D. program later, I still have yet to leave school. Looking back, engaging in individual research, reconnecting with professors, and meeting people from near and far were just some of the reasons that graduate school was a good and even a natural choice. In today’s economy, several reports have begun to address the rapid decrease of academic jobs, while institutions of higher learning continue to produce more Ph. D.s than ever before. The reality is that many grad schools have experienced an increase in applications resulting from the dire job market. Many graduates wish to defer dealing with the tough employment market, hoping that their time spent in academia will coincide with an improved economy. Although there are a lot of obvious benefits to this strategy, the cost in terms of lost real world experience and compensation can be immense."

"MTSU is full of wonderful professors that know a lot about their content area. Unfortunately, they can be hard to contact and are not good about responding to e-mails."

"It is a very eye opening program. The experience of the faculty and the relevance of the coursework allows to accurately gauge if what you really would like to be an Economist or to have a occupation in business. I reallyhave enjoyed my experience!"

"The faculty is outstanding. Being 30 minutes from Nashville is a plus. A large campus means a lot is always going on. There are many financial aid and scholarship opportunities as well. Right now, the science buildings are not awesome, but the new science building, which is expensive and incredible, will be finished in a year or so."

"The Biology graduate program at MTSU isn't what you would consider top-notch. It doesn't have a state-of-the-art lab with the latest equipment in the most expensive model. However we're in the process of building a new science building, and there will be many upgrades. What you can expect from MTSU's program is a staff of diverse experts from various biological backgrounds. They are well-published in their individual fields and are known by their colleagues. They know how to succeed as a graduate, and they are more than willing to pass that knowledge onto their students and mentors. Don't expect your mentor to be at your beck and call, though. They all keep themselves busy with their research interests as well as all the work necessary to be a teacher, organization committee member, peer reviewer, and organization officer. So while you may have to learn some of the older techniques or deal with a machine that is older than you are, the faculty takes every opportunity to help you along the way and bring you the skills you'll need in your field. My personal favorite thing about the program is that it is its own little community. Everyone knows each other in some capacity, and the halls are always friendly. Another bonus is that every student in the program is either covered by scholarships or working as a teaching, administrative, or research assistant. There's no lack of money for the students. Maybe that's why we're slow to update our machines."
