"The School of Health Sciences Exercise Science program at Oakland University offers students an excellent and diverse selection of courses that can be tailored to the area of interest of the student. The faculty and staff are experienced in their fields and extremely supportive. The graduate program is small, which is often a benefit. The only drawback is that because there are not a large number of students, some elective class offerings are cancelled if there are not enough students registered. This can make it more challenging to get the credits needed within a certain number of semesters."

"Pros- It is great to have it online. It saves a lot of time and is more interesting. Cons- Cannot meet people in person and make connections."

"Oakland University is considered a commuter school. It is a great university if you have interest in the automotive industry."

"This program is in its infancy and as such there are still many aspects that still have vast room or improvement. There also are very limited public transportation options and side walks in the surrounding communities. For students from larger cities this can be quite a setback since you'll have to adapt to driving everywhere, especially come winter."

"The pros of this program is that it's an accelerated program, I will complete it in 1 year because I already have my bachelor's. It's fast and not easy, but can be done! The only cons I can think of is the nursing school itself is not where the college campus is, so it's a little far from me, but you gotta do what you gotta do!"

"The early childhood masters program at oakland University is a well rounded program. The instructors discuss teaching in diverse areas and how to teach to students of different needs and backgrounds. The expectations of the program are high but attainable. I am very pleased with my decision to attend the program at oakland. The only down side is the cost but I feel I pay for the education I receive."

"Pros: The OU MPH program directly descends from University of Michigan's program. OU is also situated between 3 cities that need public health interventions (Detroit, Pontiac, and Flint) which gives the students ample opportunity for internships, volunteering, field trips, and possible jobs in our area. Cons: It seems to be getting the "leftovers" as far as room assignments and class times go."

"OU is a beautiful campus and the faculty and staff are extremely helpful in all cases. I had several instances, including out of school concerns, where the faculty and staff were able to help me determine what to do. The classes are well organized and the amount of material is not overwhelming, even in the shortened summer courses."

"There are many pros and cons of my graduate program. First of all, this is the very first class of this program, therefore, there are not many options as far as online classes and part time enrollment. The pros to this program is that there is a ton of support from the advisors and teaching staff. They make you feel wanted in the program."

"Overall, the pros of the graduate program at Oakland University are of many. First, the professors take a real life approach providing materials that are relevant and useful in the common teaching field. The use of discussion between student and profession allowed for a meaningful learning experience. The workload was fair and reflection was an important part of the learning process. Overall, my understanding of early childhood development vastly grew by enrolling and completing the program. The cons of the program are very few. I like the idea of online classes, but sometimes it took away from the relationship building and rapport that is established with face to face contact."

I am happy to have chosen Oakland University as my school. The facilities are great too! The recreational center has all of the latest workout machines and there are many classes to participate in."

"As a graduate student at Oakland University, I did not spend much time on campus. Oakland accommodated my program and held classes at their satellite campuses which was very accommodating and much more convenient than driving out to Rochester. The professors all made themselves more than available to their students and really worked to ensure that their information was directly relevant and useful. The only downfall is that I don't think the department responsible for our curriculum realized the constraints facing a cohort of students that worked full-time. Many of our professors were shocked the first day of class to learn that we were all full time professionals. Many of the syllabi had to be adjusted to accommodate our situation but again, the professors were very understanding. Oakland U is a great university if its what works for you. It does not have a lot of national prestige but it is very applicable to the real world and cares about its students."

"The PhD in Reading Education program consists of a small, dedicated group of students. Class size is ideal (6-10 students), and we have the chance to get to know each other well and have a built in support system because of this. The professors are knowledgeable and have reasonable expectations given the fact that the majority of us work full time during the day and take classes at night. Some online and hybrid classes are available, which I find helpful as well. The only real drawback to this program has nothing to do with the university - it is my personal commute time. I live approximately 2 1/2 hours from campus, which makes for a long day once a week. However, I knew this when I began the program and am dedicated to completing it in a reasonable time frame. I would recommend this course of study to anyone who is interested in furthering his or her career in the field of reading education."
