"Many students say that Oakland is a commuter campus, but it is becoming less so. It is a gorgeous campus in a fairly wealthy area-a far cry from Detroit. The campus and community is very safe, and many of the professors are very caring. The education department at Oakland is good, and they have an 5 autism program!"

"I attended Oakland University and earned my degree in Elementary Education. I found that being at Oakland University was one of the greatest decisions I could have made when choosing a college for my degree. Oakland allowed me to be involved in my education. I gained experience in my field because of the high standards my degree program and I am grateful for all those experiences. Having the experiences I did, whether they were good or bad, and working with my peers and professors are some of the most successful ideals I walked out with when I graduated."

"Oakland University is an average school at best. The coursework shouldn't be difficult, but the professors make it so, i'm guessing that they're more concerned with their own research than helping students. My biggest problem though is with the student body. We all know that networking is very important, probably even more important than your GPA, and this school has an abysmal social life. The university is situated in an affluent, traditional, suburb which has a lot to do with it. The students are very cliquey and stick with people that they've known in high school, you'd be better off pulling teeth than trying to make friends here. They have really snobby attitudes and don't seem to be aware of how the world works, I think a lot of them take what they have for granted and look down on others who lack what they have. This poor attitude is even reflected by many of the staff who work here. The school has a crazy high transfer rate (around 40-50% of undergraduates leave to complete their degree at other universities), so this isn't even a first choice school for the majority. I chose this school because of convenience and financial reasons, you do save money by not living on campus and just commuting. Oakland lacks in diversity amongst the student body and taking what I know now, I would've attended Wayne instead. I feel that Wayne has a far better reputation for the major that i'm studying and that the student body is more diverse, plus it's in Midtown and near some of the best hospitals, museums (THE DIA!),restaurants, etc."

"I was incredibly surprised by the quality professors in the Oakland University MPA program. The classes were for the most part well structured and the professors worked one-on-one with the students. The admin staff is also by far the best I have come across. Highly recommended."
