"Oregon Health & Science University is an excellent medical school with a variety of strengths and few weaknesses. Strengths include a very strong basic science research program, particularly in cellular biology and oncology, as well as excellent primary care education. Weaknesses include less support for students wishing to pursue highly competitive specialties."

"OHSU is an amazing school with a progressive curriculum and truly cares about it's students. The best part about YourMD is the ability the curriculum has to adapt and change with the student's needs and wants. Ease of transport to and from campus makes attending classes feasible for people who live all over the city but they also have an online component to re-watch the lectures or just stay home and watch the lectures from home."

"Oregon Health and Science University School of Dentistry is on the cutting edge of the dental field. With a huge emphasis on evidence-based dentistry, a brand new school, rigorous training with today's latest technology (including CAD/CAM, stereolithography file manipulation, and implant technology), and numerous visits from outside dental technology representatives(i.e. implant company representatives), we have a great opportunity to become immersed quickly and completely in the dental field as students at OHSU. The first year of school includes a vast and in-depth review of the basic sciences including clinical anatomy, head and neck anatomy, histology, microbiology, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, immunology, and pathology. In addition, first-year students dive into operative dentistry, periodontics, and removable/fixed prosthodontics in a simulation lab by practicing on mannequins with plastic teeth. The second year refines the clinical skills and incorporates many treatment planning exercises to prepare for the live-patient clinic in the third and fourth years. The third and fourth years are dedicated to clinical work with live patients, in addition to continued study in the clinical sciences. These years dedicate time to external rotations in which dental students have the opportunity to travel to a rural clinic and practice dentistry with more autonomy (but with supervision). This allows them to get an idea of real-world dentistry, especially with managing more patients in a day and having multiple chairs occupied at one time. This is a unique experience that not many dental schools have! Some graduates decide to continue their education in a specialty residency, but all graduates from OHSU are clinically ready and confident in their ability to provide oral care to a diverse patient population in the fast-changing world of dentistry!"

"OHSU's nurse anesthesia program is rigorous and demanding. The program sets up their students for success. I highly recommend this wonderful program for anyone considering nurse anesthesia. It is a 27 month MSN program with front loaded didactic courses and full time clinical rotations during the last year."

"A great learning environment with great educational and practical resources. The quality of teaching really depends on the teacher with whom you're taking the classes. More can be done to improve student activities and diversity in general. Safe and secure campus area!"

"With all of the changes happening, OHSU SOD is not the same as before. Many new staffs were hired and they all have research background. This school has transformed from a very clinical-based school to a research/evidence-based program. The curriculum has changed where everything is speed up. Students do not have enough time to practice their hand-skills and also learn all of the important information for Boards."

"As a pharmacy student at OHSU, we get to interact with other students in different professions such as dentistry, medicine, and nursing. This gives us the opportunity to practice our skills in different settings and learn from other professions. The technology at OHSU is amazing and there is ample quiet space for students to study after class without being bothered. There is also a Starbucks in the lobby of the Collaborative Life Sciences Building, which is a bonus for late night studying. The only con is trying to find a decently priced living situation. Other than that, no complaints!"

"Pros: The pros of the graduate nursing program in nurse midwifery are that the faculty are world class leaders and teachers in this field. There is an excellent faculty practice that we get the benefit of doing many of our clinical hours in. OHSU is a great place for academic quality, hands on skill building, a large number of clinical hours, and good support from the faculty to help you deal with the course load. Cons: The cons are that there are few opportunities for community learning outside of OHSU, and it is a brick and mortar school, you will have to live in Portland. I do wish there was a little more flexibility in terms of clinical placements, however, the faculty are an invaluable source of knowledge and are expert teachers, so the trade off is more than worth it."

"Tough program, but well worth it. There are papers to write and tests to take and I always felt overloaded on homework, but looking back it was a wonderful opportunity and great experience. I had a job before I graduated. I had always wanted to go to OHSU and life just happened to get in the way. As an adult learner I felt well supported by Professors who all encouraged me along my journey. Our class became a close knit group and supported each other throughout the program."

"The department is small enough to feel personal and inclusive but still offers plenty of resources for its students. Portland is a great city, although limited parking at OHSU requires the use of alternative methods of transportation."

"OHSU is a fantastic medical school. The school is renowned for its education of primary care physicians, and is rapidly becoming a first-rate research institution. The school is currently in a transition phase. Next year the school will be moving to a new state-of-the-art building on Portland's South Waterfront. This move will be accompanied by a radical change in the medical school curriculum. The curriculum is designed to reflect the changing way that we provide medical care in america: a team-based approach. The tuition at OHSU is outrageously high. In the end it is worth it, though. Doctors make enough money to pay down those student loans."

"Great faculty, great opportunities for learning especially throughout the state. Maybe becoming a bit disconnected from the rest of the state care-wise, not as worried about filling the primary care needs as they used to be, but overall good education."

"Students get a lot of experience with hands on dentistry but pay a pretty penny for it. The workload is intense but it is paying off. Some faculty members are still stuck in the old ways but others in fixed and endo are great. Get experience with CEREC, perio surgeries, rotary endo, and system b obturation."

"An excellent program altogether. They are in the midst of a curriculum overhaul, so I don't know how much my comments will help future students, but the current program is very good. The workload is challenging but manageable. One of the perks is the fact that you see patients in clinic from the first year onward. You also will be working with world-renowned physicians due to the reputation of OHSU's hospital. You also may have the opportunity to work at the Portland VA, Shriner's Children's Hospital, and Doernbecher Children's Hospital. An excellent place to get a medical education."

"Few people in one class, you will be very well taken care of by the whole program and faculties. The academic atmosphere is awesome, students and faculties are high quality. The only concern is that the school library is too small, all the others are perfect."

"The faculty are excellent, and many of our course directors are very attentive to student concerns and truly care about getting us an excellent education. Their passion for their subjects and our learning are amazing and inspiring. On the other hand, we generally feel unsupported by the dean's office, the cost is outrageous, especially for a public university and we don't feel like anyone's really working with us to help fix that. We don't feel that the office of Student Affairs and Services has any idea what is going on - they tell us to come to them with all concerns, and then can't help with simple information/tasks that are sometimes quite important."
