"The pros are that's it is a challenging program that has prepared me for the real world but the cons are that the price is incredibly expensive. It is so expensive that it makes me wonder if I will find a job to repay the loans or if for the next 20 years I will be paying this bill off."

"Like any school there are pros and cons. The school of social work is in transition. A plus is that the program is small and individual attention from professors is always available. SFSU's Financial Aid program leaves something to be desired. The staff at the Financial Aid office are either not knowledgeable or do not care to provide assistance when it comes to helping graduate students find scholarships or grants."

"The faculty is extremely helpful, especially the department head. They offer teaching assistantships to Master's students which helped financially. The major con is that the department of Mathematics is fairly small and therefore there is not a diverse set of classes offered at the graduate level."

"The MPH program at San Francisco State University is a great fit for me. The Professors and class discussions are engaging and I feel very supported by everyone."

"The cons are: disorganized, consistently changing the curriculum and over all confusion of requirements. The pros: great clinical placements, very good facility, and relevant assignments and tests."

"My program is an M.S. in Counseling. There are 6 different counseling specializations and we all share a majority of our coursework. There is a wonderful collaboration across disciplines due to this structure. Also, since we are not in a cohort model, students are free to progress through the curriculum at their own pace. It's nice to have students at different stages in their degree in classes together. Some faculty are worn out and tired and some are phenomenal. Most are accessible. The big state school provides additional resources (financial aid and more). It is super cost-effective. You have flexibility to focus on more than one counseling specialization or to change your focus if you need to. Overall, it's great and I'd highly recommend it.Read Less"

"I adore the History Department at San Francisco State! The majority of Professors are highly talented and most trained at very prestigious institutions. Further, a good percentage of MA students go on to doctoral programs. San Francisco is one of the most expensive places to live in the country, though."

"Cons: Very accessible to Bart, Free School Shutter! The environment of the school is very nice and great and wonderful library. Pros: Graduate department is not very supportive for a student who is having hard time to seek for an internship. Basically, it is student's hard work to seek for an internship even in very tough deadline and situation. Academically, more than three classes are very poor planned by the professors. Wasting students' time and money, and not preparing students for next level of course.Read Less"

"San Francisco State University is a good school. It really depends on your schedule though in order to get the quality of education that you're looking for and your money's worth--how many hours you work per week and how many hours you put in to studying per day. What I like the most about San Francisco State University is that if you need help, the professors will go out of their way to help you in any way that they can. Even if it is their day off, they will schedule a time and place to meet up with you to help you study or to give advice. In addition, the counselors provide wonderful advice and information. They keep you informed and up to date about what you need to know and do including courses you need to take, career events, scholarships, courses that are being offered the semester after, and work and study alternatives. Also, San Francisco is a busy city. There's always traffic. On the bright side, you could take public transportation (BART) and walk straight upstairs to you class. You don't need to worry about driving or finding parking. It's as easy as that. What I don't like about SFSU is that the professors don't clearly explain what they want. Sometimes they'll say one thing, but does another. It gets annoying sometimes. And the cost of living is quite expensive in San Francisco, but you'll still be able to live. You will just need to budget your expenses. Overall, I personally think studying that at San Francisco State University has been a good experience so far.Read Less"

"The program offers great professors and engaged students. It's good for the student juggling work-life-school priorities. The major downside is the lack of sense of community. Opportunities to socialize together are rare - everyone's in a rush to get to their jobs or families."

"The faculty in the BECA Department are extremely dedicated to the professional and academic success of the students. Many of the faculty members are also working in broadcasting, which opens up additional opportunities for students - and keeps faculty up-to-date in the field. I have few criticisms of the program - it has exceeded my expectations in nearly every way."

"Faculty is excellent and very supportive. I only wish there was a Professor with a specific interest in Queer Literature."

"Overall an excellent program for the low cost of tuition (the high cost living in SF is another story). Planning ahead to ensure you can graduate in the desired amount of time will pay off."
