"Southern Connecticut's School of Education is one of the best in the state. The professors are always highly engaged in your learning & invested in your future teaching. There are always events happening on campus and they provide a lot of support for commuter students. You can always find people willing to help you and guide you."

"I graduated with a graduate degree, master of science in community counseling. I went on to get both my LPC, licensed professional counselor and LADC licensed drug and alcohol counselor. I have an excellent job where I work full time in a hospital setting and I have opened a part time private practice. The counseling program at Southern truly prepared me for a successful career."

"My experience at SCSU was a rocky one, but what mattered the most was that I loved my major, including the professors and courses. If you focus on that, and getting involved in activities around campus, you will make it through."

"Pros: Incredible internship experiences and a couple professors who almost make the cost of the entire education worth it. Cons: Completely unwilling to compromise (incredibly harsh and opposed to graduate students remaining employed) while providing minimal education not already obtained in undergraduate school supplemented with a grotesque amount of busy work."

"From the very first class I took with my mentor, she believed in me and advocated for me to apply for the program. I was so excited to be accepted into the program and I have produced amazing poetry each semester"

"Graduate program definitely prepares student for career in SLP, real-world applications in clinics, and support in finding and establishing a fellowship following the program. Cons include the fact that is a large program and one could get lost keeping track of their documentation for licensing requirements."

"This program has changed my life in many positive ways. My peers, professors, and supervisors have been amazingly supportive and encouraging. There are always things about a program that can be tweeked and changed for the better, but I am incredibly grateful to have been given this opportunity and look forward to graduating next year."

"The professors within the program are knowledgable and inspiring. They go above and beyond to try and help you achieve your goals. Very up front and forward about what it takes to succeed in the art world. They create engaging experiences pertaining to the curriculum and student interest. Administrative departments however leave much to be desired."

"The pros of this program I feel is the quality of the course work. The professors are knowledgable and provide us with usable resources. All professors are willing to help and do their best to explain assignments and to meet with students when needed. A con would be the financial aid. There is minimal aid given to students, and at times they decided to change eligibility or amount of funds given because they might feel it is not needed. Cost of going to a state school is a con. Overall, professors and educational staff are supportive, but administration are harsh with not much explanation. Bittersweet because I enjoy the classes."

"The program was fantastic as far as professors and course content went. And the social network within the department was great at well. However it was located far from the downtown area of New Haven, and the program was very small with limited resources although the professors did everything they could to make sure their students got the most out of it."

"The FNP program is small, and faculty members are very accessible. I have felt challenged and encouraged by all of my instructors. There is not much to offer in the outskirts of New Haven where the campus is located. Overall, I am extremely pleased with the value of the FNP graduate program."

"With SCSU there is a lot of Red Tape to get through in order to get into the graduate program, and many of the answers you get are unclear. At times, there was more focus on jumping through the hoops of the process then the academics themselves. Once accepted, I have found the course work to be very comprehensive. Each course uses a variety of methods to teach content including lecture, field work, research, etc. I am really enjoying the academics now that I have been able to focus solely on them. Also, the faculty is extremely knowledgeable in their field, SCSU has done a very good job at sourcing a diverse and highly qualified teaching staff."

"This program offers a lot of hands on clinical experience, and classes with talented professors. There is not much offered in the way of financial aid besides graduate loans, so it can be expensive, particularly as an out of state student."

"I love going to this school. I can attend classes full or part time while still working. In addition because the school is so affordable I can pay for my Masters without having to take out loans."
