"This summer, I began my first semester as an Occupational Therapy student at Stony Brook University. So far it has been a very interesting experience. In terms of competitiveness, I'd say that all the health science programs at SBU are fairly competitive and have a very good reputation. I am thankful to have been accepted into their Occupational Therapy program as this is a career that I am very passionate about. I am glad that Stony Brook accepts students from every part of the nation (and world) because I feel like I've made a lot of friends and it's great to hear different people's opinions and experiences in the field of occupational therapy. I'm excited to see where the next three years will take me in this program."

"Overall I am happy with my choice to come to SBU because of my research. I do not get much value out of the classes and find our department to be lackadaisical in general. I wish there was greater camaraderie between the students and between students and faculty as well."

"The Molecular and Cell Biology (MCB) graduate program at Stony Brook is quality. The first year of classes are intensive and the classes encompass the core topics in Molecular and Cell Biology, thereby giving students a solid base for their research work. Different topics within the same course are taught by experts in each particular field, thus allowing for in-depth comprehension. For example, Bruce Stillman, whose work led to the elucidation of the molecular players in and the principles of genetic replication, taught our DNA replication lecture! More so, the MCB program is the biggest program in Stony Brook life sciences in terms of affiliated faculty members, which are about 100. Also, the program is affiliated with reputable nearby institutions such as Cold Spring Harbor Lab and Brook Haven National Laboratory. As the focus is on research and the location is in the heart of Long Island, the social scene is not scintillating. Overall though it's a great program with an average graduate time of five years."

"This graduate program is very demanding and it very difficult to work. But without working I would have no income. Without an income I can not commute to class and placement. There is so much work involved which is to be expected, but yet there needs to be breathing room too. Also faculty as in the professors can be helpful. Some are not."

"Courses are relatively heavy in theory which is useful in certain circumstances, but not many field courses. Some of these theory based courses are very easy and others are challenging. They offer field courses in other countries through an outside program, but they are very expensive. If you want field experience, you have to work hard to find someone who will help you with that, but it's not a guarantee as there are only a few choices for field research on Long Island. If you want to travel with another lab, you may need to get your own funding as they work in other countries. This is coming from a master's student and it is definitely different for phD students as I think you have more opportunities for funding, travel and research."

"The pros are that it is a very affordable program at a highly acclaimed public university. My program connected me with useful internships. However, the downside is that they treat you as if you were in elementary school. All teachers take attendance and act as though missing class was a life or death situation. Some classes are redundant and some are useless depending on your career path. I do appreciate, however, that it has a medical focus and that the teachers are generally very understanding."

"Stony Brook is a very demanding school but it is also an extremely rewarding school as well. I don't think people give this place enough credit. In terms of career preparedness, you will find a job and they will give you the tools for it. Not just in education with a recognized university but with the help of the career center to which you can return to even years after you graduate. Grad school especially in the College of Business is a great opportunity for networking. Your professors have real world experience and have retained the connections from their past lives. Many of them are still working. Its an extremely diverse school, with people from all over the world. They have made many efforts to recruit people from different states and generally it is one of the most ethnically and culturally mixed schools. Take advantage of this if you've ever felt like an outside. The people here are open minded and friendly. The school itself has received a considerable amount of return from its graduates in donations and Stony Brook has put that money to work. They have expanded on their programs and hired new professors for almost every department. The campus has become considerably more beautiful in the last ten years with new buildings and some recently finished construction. Best advice I can give you is to take it all in and enjoy. No school is perfect but this one has been good to me."

"Pros: The program is extremely challenging which makes me feel like I am getting the knowledge and preparation I need in order to enter the working world. The faculty and staff are very caring and helpful and would not hesitate to take you under their wing to assist you educationally as well as personally. The students in the program become like your brothers and sisters and everyone is willing to help each other out. I would highly recommend this program to aspiring PT students Cons: As of right now, the school has developed a satillite campus out in South Hampton for the physical therapy DPT program. In many ways this can be advantageous but as of now we have been trying to figure out how to stream classes from Stony Brook's main campus to the South Hampton campus. Sometimes the streaming works fine but a lot of times its buggy and sometimes class ends up getting cancelled."

"This Stony Brook PA program is excellent. If you are looking into PA schools, you definitely need to check out SBU. In the long run, you need to find what fits you best. If you come here, be prepared to make friends and see the same 43 people every day for a year. Also, we work hard, but we play hard, too. I am very happy with my decision to come here."

"Stony Brook University's Health Care Management graduate program offers courses that will give students the managerial skills and knowledge to effectively and efficiently manage in today's health care marketplace. The program offers evening courses to make it convenient for the students who have fulltime jobs and other responsibilites. We have advisors who are there to offer help and advice whenever it's needed. I think that the program is wonderful overall, but my concern is with financial aid. I wish that there were grants provided for the students in the graduate program."

I couldn't have picked a better school to attend. I feel extremely happy and blessed to be surrounded by so many amazingly talented people. I highly recommend this school for anyone looking to perfect their craft."

"As of right now, one of the major cons is that they have combined the physical therapy, respiratory care and physician assistant programs together for the summer anatomy course. I feel that as PT students we are being forced to learn completely irreverent things to what we will be doing with our career and being tested on it. Aside from that, pros include 24/7 access to a cadaver lab of over 20 cadavers to work on at any time. The faculty is extremely caring and helpful. PT has it's own lab to study in open 24/7."

"I was in the masters program for psychology. It was a fairly new program and definitely had some kinks to work out in the way people signed up for classes, how people applied for internships, and also not offering any sort of scholarship opportunities. That being said I would make the choice to attend this program over and over. I learned so much, the professors were amazing and really cared about all their students (so long as you showed you cared and put in an effort) and it got me to a point that i was able to be accepted into a top ranking PhD program after graduating from Stony Brook."
