"The program is incredibly small, and definitely not a program the school puts resources into. There was no communication of any kind regarding conferences or calls for papers outside of the school for graduate students, like there are with some other schools, and the CFP's through the school were mostly targeted at undergrads. Some professors are slightly out of touch with the workload they assign to students, or are unwilling to be a help to the students in terms of feedback. However, the majority of the professors I've had there are incredibly friendly and willing to help students with research and other concerns. The program itself is a bit dated- there really aren't any classes offered on more recent fields of research like new media or culture studies, which was disappointing as that it what I've been hoping to research for my thesis. There really aren't job opportunities available int he area in the field, which is disheartening, but not entirely unexpected from a school in a rural agricultural area."

"Pros: Before attending the graduate program I had spent 3 summers worked at a summer camp. The program at SUNY Cortland took me from all of the experiences that I had working to the next level of knowledge, what to look for, researching, and a lot more. Cons: My only con was that I did not have family or established friends nearby as I'm originally from multiple states away."

"Pros: Great teachers, topics that will enhance your skill in the field, projects that get your mind on par with what you will need working in the outdoors. Cons: Make sure you find groups (non-traditional groups) to be apart of so that you aren't all alone. Most if not all graduate program classes start at 4 or 7pm so be ready to lose a lot of your free time during the week nights."

"The grad school program is very competitive and challenges student to do their best work. The professors are knowledgable and supportive. The building that holds grad classes needs upgrading and the classrooms are very uncomfortable with old chairs and desks. Overall the grad program is very successful."

"I came into SUNY Cortland, along with my program, not knowing what to expect. What i discovered was that I was more than satisfied with my decision to come here. Not only is the itself a work of art in the midst of nature, but the Education program is one of the best, if not the best, in the state of New York. I have acquired a wealth of knowledge and experiences in the short time I've been here as a first year graduate student. The only con I would say about the school is that there is not much diversity, but this is no fault of the school itself. Upstate New York, especially Cortland and its surrounding areas, are not diverse themselves and therefore SUNY Cortland can't be held accountable for not having a diverse student body. Overall I would highly endorse this school to any one looking to go into teaching Education."

"Best: Communication with faculty and quick responses. Con: Lack of speedy response from financial aid."
